"I've explained to you that's what we're trying to change. That doesn't happen at every school. I go to school on Wednesday's and we're trying to get that changed, but that's moving an entire system. We'll see that occur in the entire system,"

I think I see a problem here.

Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 12:56:34 AM
That is truly sad. Not being able to add or subtract or even multiply numbers by grade 12 is truly sad. Just wow.

well, someone has to cut the lawn.

Wow. Just wow.

The whole bonus thing for the principal is scary too. The principal shouldn't be getting a bonus based on scores. WTF?

DanThe1Man [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 02:36:06 AM
or handle enough math to deal drugs

The school tests for that?

Being an 09'-er, i cant say its gonna get any better next year...

FTA: "Teachers have their hands tied. They're told we have to succeed; in fact principals are given a $10,000 bonus based upon how they're students do on TAKS scores.

I think the reporter might have gone to high school in Dallas....

It might have been Liberal Arts Majors until I read and find out it is high school students!

At least until I perfect my ditch-digging robot.

Damn, JSAN618. I can't believe it took me four minutes to find that image, post it on ImageShack, and post it here only to make me look like a tool.

ManatOrr [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 05:32:37 AM
That's ok. We've already outsourced basically all of the manufacturing of drugs. Now, we're in-sourcing cheap foreign labor for transport and dealing as well.

Those kids won't be missed in the workforce.

Yeah but they are qualified for entrance into ASU...

Texas is the anus of America, so no surprise there, and with bush being the supreme representative of the the anus of America, this is simply a matter of nature.

/Invade texas and slaughter the entire state in the name of democracy!

But what if we told you that 75 percent of the seniors headed to Dallas community colleges, can't read above an 8th grade level, and others can't add or subtract.

Don't forget that the reporter, doesn't know how to use commas. She seems to put them in, at random where they don't belong.

I knew NCLB would pretty much be the exact opposite of what the bill's title implied.

Given that it's farking DISD, I'm not surprised. When it's time for a new superintendent the issue isn't over who's the most qualified, it's what the race the new one will be.

I don't get this at all. High school seniors who can't do basic arithmetic? That is just so sad on so many levels. Thinking back to my HS days, starting in 9th grade, we studied algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trig, and some calc. What the hell is the solution? I think we should banish all the school administrators to some obscure circle of hell and let teachers teach.

ManatOrr "Those kids won't be missed in the workforce."

And they won't be missed in the welfare line, or in the disability courts when they're applying for disability due to some preventable disease stemming from lethargy and/or ignorance.

Your money at work.

Depression from drug use and becoming a parent very early in life?

That's a disability check.

Jail time?

That's your taxes, too.

The schools here suck because no one wants to pay higher property taxes, but the costs are far greater long-term.

I wonder if they would do better if the tests were given in spanish?

75% IS THE NEW "SOME"?

The title of the article: Some DISD students not ready for college

The second sentence: But what if we told you that 75 percent of the seniors headed to Dallas community colleges, can't read above an 8th grade level, and others can't add or subtract.

"SOME"?! Try "MOST", idiot!

Not all of them are going to community colleges. Hadn't realized this before because the only reason I'm on Fark is insomnia, but submittard apparently can't read too well.

FTFA-"...most students read at an 8th to 10th grade level, struggling to comprehend what's in some newspaper articles."

Reading the rest of the article gives some insight into why this might be.

YixilTesiphon "Not all of them are going to community colleges. Hadn't realized this before because the only reason I'm on Fark is insomnia, but submittard apparently can't read too well."

Which means that 100% of the students not headed to higher learning and maybe only 30% of those headed to university cannot read and add at the proper level.

That's so much better.

Doesn't make it false, either.
