I like the Cult, but the rest of that list is puke.

mark mcgrath? from SUGAR RAY?

that right there eliminates any possible awesomeness, no matter who showed up.

What happens when you are tormented by a summer long reality series? Said series purpose was to create a front man for a group of people that were kicked out of good bands, or were from bands that fell apart. Then what happens when a skunk boy looking goth leprechaun wins and they promise to have an album out, oh say, two and a half years ago?

Well ideally, the rest would cannibalize McGrath and the singer from Linkin Park, on stage. Then the Roxy will stop watering down their booze. Then Tommy Lee catches fire, which spreads to Duff's hair. But, that's just my ideal night at the Roxy.

Aw, that's cute. You don't know anything about music beyond what's on the radio.

You let Clear Channel control your music exploration.

you cant be serious. i comment on the fact that the lead singer from sugar ray was with some other assholes and you try to biatch slap me with your own "rock snobbery"? your comment makes me think that you heard one sonic youth album and you now think you are "beyond" anything thats top 40. or are you just a HUGE linkin park fan and your feelings are hurt?

No, not LP. Go check out Sugar Ray's first album. You're a tool because all you've heard is the radio stuff. You're judging a band without knowing their catalog.

And I've spent 13 years working in music stores. So my hipster cred it greater than yours.

Way to overuse a cliche while you're at it.

Unright: You're judging a band without knowing their catalog.

I hated "Fly" when it came out because it was on the radio all farking day long...

...But "RPM" is a great rock song.

soooo you are a sugar ray fan! now i know why you hurt. you are talking about the sugar ray album with "mean machine" on it? and nicole eggert on the cover? you arent the first person to work in a music store. the fact that you spent 13 years in one just means you have no higher level career skills. im pretty sure my "hipster cred" can run circles around yours. i worked in a music store for 8 years. big f'ing deal.

you do know you are on fark, right?

lucyfer: soooo you are a sugar ray fan! now i know why you hurt. you are talking about the sugar ray album with "mean machine" on it? and nicole eggert on the cover?

I wouldn't call myself a "fan" of Sugar Ray. But McGrath has the rock chops to hang out with the others listed in the headline.

you arent the first person to work in a music store. the fact that you spent 13 years in one just means you have no higher level career skills. im pretty sure my "hipster cred" can run circles around yours. i worked in a music store for 8 years. big f'ing deal.

Then calm down Francis. I'd have hoped by know you'd realize that it's not super-important for everyone to have the save taste in music that you do.

Usually I just find McGrath to be one of those people that casual music listeners profess a huge dislike for even though they've typically only heard a song or two on insta-radio repeat.

I singled you out because you said that anything involving McGrath instantly negates any potential "Awesomness". Which generally sounds like what a hyper 15 year-old would say because he has to tolerate the CC radio station playing "Every Morning" between tracks of Staind and Creed.

Ladies, please....you're both equally lame for arguing about music over the internet on a saturday

I'm gonna give Unright the win on this one.

CaptainFatass 2008-05-10 05:41:55 PM
McGrath's actually a pretty decent guy at heart. After "Fly" he did fully sign on to the celebrity machinery, and he was fully aware that he was destroying a part of his soul. I think he felt fairly conflicted about it; his life was a pretty big train wreck for a while.

As for the videos: "Highway to Hell" is proof that, when it comes to big, dumb, fun rock, no one delivers nearly as consistently as AC/DC.

"Bodies": That version pretty much sucked. They left out the guitar intro, and the "fark this, fark that" section.

arguing on the internet about anything ever is always lame.

but...but... he started it!

and even though i know and have heard sugar ray's first album, mark mcgrath is still lame.

Meh. "Awesomeness" is subjective. But if G'n'R, The Cult, Sex Pistols, et al. have no problem rocking out with McGrath, then what can you do?

Tony Stark: Ladies, please....you're both equally lame for arguing about music over the internet on a saturday

Shouldn't you be busy being a movie theater virgin all weekend?

yeah... but would anyone complaining really not want to be there??

And Mark isn't that bad. but sugar ray isn't exactly on repeat

You know what, it doesn't matter WHO else was on that stage....watching Slash do the riff to Paradise City made my heart skip a couple beats.

ZOMG!!!1

He's actually a good singer, funny to think it started out as a metal band.

liberate1: Me: I don't get it either... and not cause im dumb.

This word, I don't think it means what you think it means.

That applied to the use of awesomeness in the headline.

I disagree with your deductions, submitter, and heartily abuse you for such poor choice in music. Now I will return to listening to what-ever-it-is I listen to.

when i see a picture of Tommy Lee smoking a cigarette through his nose and a bunch of rock videos, thats what i mean by awesomeness

No silly, he's the co-host of Extra.

Who's Sugar Ray?

kingflower 2008-05-10 09:17:38 PM
Was this event a round-table discussion on drug addiction, alcoholism, and sexually transmitted diseases?

Faux Shizzle 2008-05-10 09:19:26 PM
And I said it before, Chester Bennington is a gifted vocalist. It's a shame that his talents are normally reserved for playing to 15 year olds.

Hmm, VR just split up and Axl is still busy releasing Chinese Democracy. I wonder if they've ever considered asking him? Linkin Park can't last forever (we can only hope).

Heh, I thought it was a funny, if not obvious troll but I didn't honestly expect anyone to bite...

(And sadly I am old enough to recall when most of the on stage members still had relevant music careers).

This hereby is seconded (since I can't bring myself to use the fark cliche). I thought it rocked liked a motherfarker.

I love not being a music snob. I like all kinds of music no matter how popular or obscure it is or how much fark.com people hate it. In fact, it seems the more the music snobs of fark hate it, the more I like it.

I don't know from Sugar Ray. But, you know, after watching that Mean Machine video: Velvet Revolver frontman Mark McGrath?

creepy jackalope eye 2008-05-10 11:09:59 PM
In regards to Mark McGrath:
The guy made, according to his defenders here, one good album (an assertion that I would normally question, but I'm feeling generous so I'll let you have it) almost 15 years ago and has spent the rest of his career selling his soul for a buck and clawing his way to C-list celebrity status culminating in a co-hosting gig on "Extra" and he doesn't suck? Seriously people, if your standards are this low you might as well get yourselves some Clay Aiken albums and a lobotomy.
