(Riverfront Times) Weird College decides to investigate public radio station general manager. Apparently this involves stalking allegations, a DUI arrest, strutting about the office in miniskirts, halter tops and a leather dominatrix outfit. Who said NPR was boring?   (riverfronttimes.com) divider line 54

Wow. That biatch is nuts.

This is gold, though: "I came back from a trip one weekend; she asked me if I had gotten laid...the next year I did a story on the cockfighting referendum and henceforth I was the expert on cocks."

When I saw the headline, I figured the general manager was a guy. This being Fark and all. This type of behavior is bound to happen if we keep letting women think they can be equal.

Remember bone of these problems happened until we gave them the right to vote.

Speaking of of NPR, I heard something today about female amature jello wrestling competition, for charity.. My mind had wandered to something else in the car, and when it came back, it was so strange..

Acutally it's Diane Rhiem that irritates the snot out of me. Her voice is NOT for radio! I know she has throat problems and I feel bad about that but... oh GOD SHUT UP!

9a, NPR goes OFF!

Well, despite this, yes NPR is boring, It astounds me the way that they can take the most earth shattering news and present it in such a way that it puts me to sleep.

I do listen every now and then, but its hard.

• Frequently appeared intoxicated at KWMU events and reportedly embarrassed a number of employees and station donors during a 2002 fundraiser when she leaned over and asked guest Diane Rehm (host of the nationally broadcast The Diane Rehm Show), "So Diane, how's your sex life?"

• Engaged in nepotism hires of her ex-boyfriend's daughters, Kristin and Nicole Ritter, who allegedly spent workdays shopping, dining and drinking with Wente.

• Assigned staff to work that had nothing to do with KWMU, such as planning a mission trip for Wente's church that occupied several top station employees for days and cost the station an estimated $2,000 in lost work time.

For some reason I get a mental image of a female Ted Kennedy.

She's been there since 1989... If she's that lousy manager - and it sounds like she is - what's the point in doing something about it now? Wouldn't doing something, oh, 18 years ago have been more appropriate? Did someone finally manage to shatter the crystal ball on the top of her cane or something?

"She told me, 'No other opinion matters except Patty Wente's,'" a longtime KWMU employee recounted to the Post-Dispatch in 1990. "She is the kind of person who speaks in third person about herself."

OK, that's too much. Cement shoes or hanging?

I don't know how much sarcasm was in your post, but...

I wasn't sure what to think of this woman, I like people who will dispense the faux stiff formality we typically associate with business, and instead will allow their humanity to show...

It often shows a willingness to set aside all the ridiculous pomp and aggrandizement, to not take things (yourself or otherwise) too seriously... in which case, I could have gladly said 'lighten up' to the detractors.

But someone who refers to themself in the third person? They're almost always awful.

So, my guess is she's someone who plays at being "a character," someone who actually takes herself VERY seriously... such that you probably end up with the worst of both worlds, someone who's a brash fark-up AND a self-absorbed egotist.

That, and she looks and sounds like a sales rep I used to work with... the sort of person who could talk to someone for hours without ever once asking anything about them.

She too loved to play at being the 'don't-stand-on-ceremony' bawdy ballsy broad, but at the end of the day it was clear it was always just about keeping the spotlight on her. She'd have just as gladly played the prim proper matronly type if she thought it would get her more attention.

So, to answer your question...

I vote shoes.

A perfect arguement for NOT HAVING STATE SPONSORED MEDIA!

If not enough people want to hear it, if it cannot be supported by advertizers or donations, I DO NOT want my tax dollars to pay for it. NPR's news is more "progressive (aka liberal) than CNN and MSNBC comibined. Government propaganda starts with goverment owning media outlets. But beyond the politics of it and my ideological oposition to public radio, in a private business with investors, a board of directors or even a private individual owner, I doubt this type of behavior would be tolerated. Some one would bring stop to it, if for no other reason than to cover their own arse.

Don't you think this thread is a little too dead for that? It's like casting a line in the swimming pool at a Day's Inn.

6/10. The CNN/MSNBC "liberal" cliche is so '90s, so you lose points for that.
But you still win the prize. Your Ron Paul bumper sticker is in the mail.

Perhaps hanging with cement shoes. Twice the fun with none the unpleasant writhing and jerking of a choke hanging.

what I dont understand is how and why is the university involved with the radio station

the university owns the station?
but then how is it a public radio station?
is it on the campus and supported by tax dollars?

regardless, who cares
the people who own the radio station have clearly not been paying any attention to it

YAWN
shocking

I am totally with you miss enthropic!!! Just like they say "some people belong in radio" for ugly freaks, Diane Rhems is just plain silly to listen to. I am all for EEO and so forth but when do you hire someone with a speach impediment to do a RADIO show!!!??? That is just plain nuts. If NPR wants that I know a kid in a wheelchair that will test treadmills lol. At one point I felt bad about laughing my arse off as caller after caller are cancelled due to her waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah wwwaaaaaaaah slow talking eating up air time, but NPR continues to trot her out on the air lol. Not like she asks hardball questions anyways. She has been at this for a long time. Why not give someone else a chance at making a buck and asking politicians some REAL questions? I nearly shat myself when I read about her being asked about her sex life lmao. Can both these weirdos NPR.

For the record, Garrison is so family friendly I can't listen to him. He could really take some pointers from Howard Stern... that would really shake up public radio.
