Four or five hundred years old?

I doubt it. Made of resin in some medical lab, circa 1997, more likely. Something transparent - like lucite.

Of course, according to crystal skull aficionados, it takes 300 years of human labor to make one.

What, like a couple of sticks of incense?

Seriously, I'm not sure what of value there is to steal in a New Age bookstore ...

"We have zero shoplifting in here"

Wrong.

"The legend surrounding the largest of the crystal skulls is that they were produced by people from Atlantis and buried in Central and South America before the collapse of Atlantis, Marr said.

If all are collected, the skulls - believed to number about a dozen - will reveal a seemingly infinite amount of information, Marr said. "

Oh for farks sake.

I don't see spiritual new age mumbo jumbo being crammed down our throats or wars waged in the name of who can meditate longer.

Ridiculous? If you want. Dangerously ridiculous like Islam or Christianity? No.

Get your religious crutch right here! For a limited time only!

Think about it. The majority of wars are started for religious reasons.

Sad, no matter who it belonged to. Stealing from anyone is wrong. And yeah, by matter of coincidence I found $200 today on the ground and got it to its rightful owner. Stealing = sucking

"We have zero shoplifting in here, and I have no idea why anyone would take something as lovely as that," said Persis Newland, the shop's owner.

a) they described it as lovely, therefore someone else may share that opinion

b) it would probably look pretty cool.

c) or, they misplaced it whilst under the 'spell of deception'. insert eyeroll here.

d) it escaped 'free willy' style to be with the other crystal skulls, because if they believe it has healing powers it can clearly fly too.

everlastinggobstopper 2008-05-10 05:46:47 PM
All of these skulls are of recent (i.e. post-Spanish contact) origin. Yes, they're pretty and look cool, but anyone who argues that they have some sort of connection to the Aztec/Maya underworld is either an idiot or is trying to sell you something.

/used to live in Seal Beach

yes and no. All wars are monetary in some way. And religious in some way. and for any other reason too.

$ = power = religion = land = politics etc

Must be a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy.

Am I the only one here that's disturbed by the person referring to the skull as a male? "He likes to read his paper by the fire, yes he does ... "

The legend surrounding the largest of the crystal skulls is that they were produced by people from Atlantis and buried in Central and South America before the collapse of Atlantis, Marr said.

The truth surrounding crystal skulls is that they were produced in Europe with rotary power tools in the late 1800s and sold by the unethical to the uneducated, usually tourists and adventurers, who wanted something "unique" to take back to Europe.

idk, I think Pol Pot had a pretty cool skull collection (though none made of crystal) for a non-religious sort of warmonger...
