Sorry, you are wrong. He's done all of those things, true, but he's still a total douche bag. I think South Park pretty much proved the point.

Die Bono. Or at least fade off into the African continent so I never have to see your stupid sun glasses again.

He's a god damn Rock Star! They're supposed to be pretentious- it comes with the territory! Are you telling me that Page and Plant aren't pretentious? That Hendrix, Lennon, or Clapton aren't pretentious?

There are few things on Earth more pretentious than thinking the songs you crafted on the guitar in your basement deserve to be heard in front of large groups of people. Rock stars are supposed to take themselves way too seriously and have a cause. Bono's cause just happens to be something incredibly important and helpful to those in need.

This picture proves that Bono is nothing but an attention whore.

There is no reason to give Bush a photo op such as this.

For Bono to think he could possibly say anything to this man to affect anything positive in the world is simply delusional.

He wanted to look important.

I love when rock stars tell me how to vote.

Bono should move all his money from his tax-free Irish bank accounts before he starts telling governments what they should be doing with theirs.

He's still a citizen of Ireland. If what you state is true, you're going to criticize him for keeping his money in accounts in his country of citizenship?

Think he's a bit of a douche and I don't think he rocks at all, but he certainly brings attention to worthy causes.

Bush has actually done a lot of good for Africa. If Bono had any hand and helping convince Bush to do any of that, then good for Bono.

You sound like the type of simpleton who thinks that giving someone the silent treatment is an effective way of 'punishing' them.

"If". Meaning you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about.

I won't dispute your thesis but is it necessary to call me names?

Is that an important part of your debate process?

If insults are key to you making your points you should think about another derogatory term for me other than "simpleton".

That don't fit.

I was just wondering why insults were important to you while trying to make a point.

I'm not sure what kind of "lingo" you need to understand that question. It seems pretty simple to me.

Mayhaps he should worry about Ireland before he starts trying to fix everywhere else.

From Wiki:
Bono and his bandmates were criticized in 2007 for moving part of their multi-million euro song catalogue from Ireland to Amsterdam six months before Ireland ended a tax exemption on musicians' royalties.[16] Under Dutch tax law, bands are subject to low to non-existent tax rates.[16] U2's manager, Paul McGuinness, stated that the arrangement is legal and customary and businesses often seek to minimize their tax burdens.[16] The move prompted criticisms in the Oireachtas (Irish parliament).[36][37]

Actually he was there to convince Bush to increase aid to Africa. Bono and others (Bill Gates, Orin Hatch, others famous and non-famous) were able to convince the Bush administration to TRIPLE their contributions.

But I guess it's just easier to snipe from the sidelines at others trying to do good in this world instead of getting off your jaded, hipper-than-though asses isn't it?

But you know what it doesn't matter. All the bitterness doesn't change the fact that the man is the lead singer in the biggest band on the farkin' planet.

Suck it haters.

I saw U2 the year they did this show, and it blew me away. I saw them again after the Joshua Tree and was disappointed beyond words...the magic was gone. I believe if Bono had kept the sincere passion he had in the early days, the worthy causes he works for would benefit so much more, but as a get-off-my-lawn-or-mow-it-for-me farker I realize that you eventually get jaded one way or another. At least he gets more involved than most.

This is me on the sidelines. In this case that would be a rather remote part of Kenya. (that's in Africa)

I am driving a mobile women's health clinic that I sponsor with my wife.

Doing that costs us more than a house.

I spend as much time with them as possible, treating many women and children every year. Many of them have AIDS.

I guess if I were to have my picture taken to give legitimacy to a war criminal I would be a better person.

Forgive me but this is the best I can do with what I have right now.

As far as being the leader of the biggest band on the planet. You have me. I simply cannot compete.

I feel like such a loser.

By all means, continue to judge me.

You obviously care about Africa. Then why do you hate a man who has helped raise billions of dollars and has put the crisis there in the spotlight? Just because he got a picture taken with Bush? Kind of petty no?

Bono once said, "I'm available to be used, but I'm not a cheap date." And he stands by that quote. "No, I'm not a cheap date. I'm in the checks business. You know, and not just people signing the checks, but people cashing them. And I'm ready to spend my, whatever you want to call it, the currency of my celebrity, if that's what it takes to get there."

"People openly laughed in my face when I suggested that this administration would distribute antiretroviral drugs to Africa," Bono remembers. "They said, 'You are out of your tiny mind.' There's 200,000 Africans now who owe their lives to America."

Perhaps it is petty. I cannot say.

I have never liked Bono (but would be a fool to deny his brilliance as an artist or the position of U2 in the history of music)

Still, I have never met him. I have met "Edge" (no "The" or "Mr." which surprised me) and he was very kind.

I do think Bono has done much for the poor people of the world. I just found the picture with Bush distasteful.

Obviously Bush wanted that picture to give himself some "cool" as well as a legitimate position in the eyes of young voters.

I cannot imagine what reason Bono would have had to pose with him other than to appear like a world player. That seems cheap to me.

I do consider Bush a criminal and any person who would help him in his goals is an accessory to coruption and murder.

Simply by W wanting the picture was reason enough to deny it.

That said I do see you point. I applaud Bono for many of his deeds. Just not this one.
