And is a f'n genius, IMHO.

Anyone who can write a show that's funny to kids, but downright hilarious to adults deserves a medal. Some of us are subjected to watching this stuff whether we like it or not, we may as well enjoy it. Adults smoke pipes, have sideburns, and listen to free-form jazz? Gold.

The 10-foot tall painting of Nickelodeon character SpongeBob SquarePants is on a cabin in the Pike National Forest that used to be the Forest Service's tree nursery until it was abandoned in the 1930s.

I didn't know it was possible to vandalize property that had been abandoned in the woods for over 70 years.

And they want to spend thousands to clean it up?

I agree. My favorite part is the fact that Spongebob is a classic cartoon character. He is a square so the faces they can use are unlimited. I watch Spongebob every day (earlier today already).

Have you noticed his voice has changed recently?

Exactly. He's wholesome enough that you don't have to worry about your children watching, but he still pulls in a lot of those "golden age" cartoon elements which made them classic. Show half of the old Looney Tunes or Popeye cartoons to children nowadays and you're lucky if DCS doesn't take your kids away. Which, by the way, is a crying shame, as classic cartoons are what taught me a love of orchestral music. Animaniacs, Spongebob, and Courage the Cowardly Dog stand out as three modern cartoons that bring back that nostalgia.

I haven't watched lately. I stopped when they re-ran the same 10 episodes 15 bajillion times.

Oh great first people steal Spongebob inflatables from the roof of Burger King restaurants around the country and now people are painting Spongebob Squarepants on chimineys. Spongebob's popularity continues.

I can see where you would think Spongebob is a Stimpy rip off. But the shows as a whole are completely different. But yea I would say Spongebob was inspired by Stimpy, Looney Tunes, and the WB cartoons of the 90's. He is better than all the pseudo-anime they have now days.

It was 'time-consuming' and during all that time, nobody saw them? That's some good security work there, Lou.

I take it you are Canadian? It's much cheaper to re-run episodes many time and wait for the product to get cheaper as time goes on..

"That is ART! How dare the Forest Service destroy that cultural hallmark. Somebody call an attorney! Save SpongeBob! Think of the chillllldren."

"Well, those people are artists and they are just doing a job that nobody else wants to do."

Seconded. I kinda wish that was my room, but my wife might object. Awesome depth to the background, by the way -- it really makes the room look a lot bigger than it is.
