Yes, sometimes the girls get a little jealous over me.

a Liquid bomb recipe is all over the internets?
O'Rly?

The only Liquid bomb recipe I was able to find was this:

1 oz vodka
1 oz Bacardi® Limon rum
2 oz Alize® Gold Passion liqueur
2 oz peach schnapps
3 oz cranberry juice
3 oz orange juice

Pour in the Alize, rum, schnaps and vodka into a cup with ice. Then add the juices to flavor. Mix well and enjoy.

I don't think this ends up purple, nor do I think it would help you blow up a house. Raise the roof maybe, but not bring down the house.

One of the possible substances being investigated by police is methyl ethyl ketone

Sounds like an awesome name for a band.

I'm not convinced that seeing the highly flammable symbol on the back of a bottle of purple PVC cleaner and pouring it through someone's letter box = making an 'internet' bomb.

FTA: "Miss Anderson called police 10 hours before the blast"

What the hell?

I guess even when hours count, the police can't bother to respond that day. Makes the old guys shooting teens on their lawn seem sane.

Purple PVC cement (methyl ethyl ketone) ain't gonna do it.

Purple, easy to make, and liquid - to me the would likely mean triiodine nitride in solution perhaps or something along those lines. Pourable, stable, (and purple) dissolved in ether or alcohol, hellishly unstable and highly brisant when it evaporates off and leaves the crystal solids.
It would almost have to be a primary explosive, I just cant see a bunch of teenage gang-bangers preparing a proper secondary explosive, and the blasting caps to initiate it, and a detonator. Not unless they are a really scary bunch, anyway.

Yes, that is a fairly creepy photo, but certainly not a 15-year old. It's a French singer named Alizée who posesses a very small amount of musical talent and a very large amount of hotness. I would say she's probably a better singer than our betrainwrecked equivalent, but not by much.

Hotter, definitely.

"One of the possible substances being investigated by police is methyl ethyl ketone, which can come in a purple liquid form with an ether-like odour and is used on piping by plumbers. It is a highly-flammable irritant, which can be explosive if concentrated into a vapour."

Agripa 2008-05-10 07:58:10 AM
CliChe Guevara, at least when we made it, triiodine nitride always looked black when wet. I wonder how much they would have had to pour through a mail slot to get the reported effect. A couple of gallons?

Emad Qureshi, 26, from Pakistan, who lived with his parents next door to Miss Anderson, died in the blast.

I bet he never thought when moving away from the land of Let's-blow-stuff-up-istan he'd get blown up by teenage girls. :(

"She has been living here about six months so she is new to the area and just getting to know people.

It is believed that Miss Anderson had been taken into care by social services and was living alone at the bottom floor flat of No.21. Her mother was travelling down from Newcastle last night to be at her bedside.

So, in England, Social Services takes care of children by setting them up in their own flat?

Brilliant!

There is something totally creepy about that pic. For one thing the background is shopped and whats up with her face?...how old is she like 15? *shudder*

It's not shopped, just taken with a long lens and wide apeture giveng a small depth of field. It also looks like real film, and that why it has grain and not noise. Of course it may be digital and have been denoised or something too. Maybe it's creepy because it's a candid shot, and the subject is unaware she is being photographed, so it's not posed.

As for the face....What's wrong with the face?

This story is being downplayed by the media in the UK because, frankly, it's terrifying. If our idiot teens can now settle their disputes by detonating bombs which demolish three houses it will put the IRA and Al Qaida to shame. It's just astonishing. What's next, tactical nukes?

Gordon Bennett 2008-05-10 12:24:53 PM
FTFA:Mr Sutton said: "We still haven't ruled out a gas explosion but experts say it is unlikely to be the cause.

"What we can say is that we are happy there is no link to any terrorist organisation or acts here.

Blowing up three houses is an act of terrorism. Charge them as such.

CliChe Guevara: Purple PVC cement (methyl ethyl ketone) ain't gonna do it.

The purple stuff is cleaner/primer, not cement, and it contains tetrahydrofuran. That's pretty damn lively under certain circumstances and you can buy/steal it by the gallon.

NI3 is plausible, but it isn't purple, more of a sludgy brown.

My money's on the 'explosive' theory being 'security expert' fantasy. I suspect a readily available purple, highly flammable, liquid, a match, and a secondary ignition of either a gas heater or a oxy-acetylene set.

When keeping it real goes wrong.

Necrosis 2008-05-10 02:43:35 PM
No way they could have made enough NI3 to cause that much damage. You would need a huge quantity of iodine and it would leave a very obvious mess after it exploded.

I agree with FarkinNortherner, I would guess they lit something on fire and got lucky, igniting something else. Given the success rate of other morons trying to make bombs (other than terrorists with some training) I don't think random teenage girls could build something that powerful.

/me on the other hand...

Holfax [TotalFark] 2008-05-10 03:04:02 PM
So, if they read about how to make the bomb in a book, it would be called a 'book' bomb? Or maybe 'library' bomb?

/I guess "e-bomb" was considered too 90's.

It's called focus. the background is out of focus, intending to bring attention to the nice rack of this 20-something French hottie.
