I've got a great idea...let's all quit our jobs and use government checks to win the lottery!

How about this... have a sign on the meter that states what hours and days are freebies.

Since Seattle is ripping out classic meters in favor of kiosk style meters, they don't have nearly as many signs to put up.

Two questions:

(a) What if you weren't a party to the original case and don't accept the settlement, which has a percentage going to lawyers you didn't hire?

(b) What if your car was impounded? How about refunding rental car expenses, etc?

From TFA:

A judgment entered May 2 ends a lawsuit filed in 2006 by Bellevue resident Colette Turner, who received a $35 ticket for failing to pay a parking meter on New Year's Eve 2004, which was a Friday.

Turner had parked her Jeep Cherokee in the International District to shop.

"I feel real good about this. My friends and family are proud that something was done," Turner, 50, said Friday. "I really didn't do that much. I didn't know the law. I just questioned it."

But she noticed that the meter's sign said parking was free on holidays -- and she still got a ticket.

Later on in the article it listed that New Years Eve was a recognized (by the city of Seattle) holiday, so by their rules the parking should have been free.

I have a different question, if Turner had been, say 24 instead of 50, would it made any difference to the outcome if that was the only change?
And if not, why are you telling me irrelevant information?

If this had happened in San Francisco, they would make it like impossible to collect. A nickel in the meter buys 1.2 minutes. Thats 72 seconds.

A lot of newspaper stories give the ages of the people involved. Who cares?

That's ridiculous. Those days are not holidays! They should have double the fines for stupidity and for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

No, I mean the actual days. IE, Jan 1, July 4, Nov 28, Dec 24, etc...

The machines have to be regularly maintained. Nothing prevents them from slapping on a new decal annually with the list of days that are free.
