he voted for himself.

Edwards blew his chance to be relevant at all by not coming forward to endorse anyone 2 months ago. Now he has very little he could add

MaxxLarge [TotalFark] 2008-05-09 12:36:41 PM
burndtdan: he voted for himself.

Seems the most likely scenario.

RedMosquito: Obama/Edwards? Why not?

I doubt Edwards is interested in making a second consecutive VP run after losing in 2004. If I had to bet on a pick, I'd bet that Obama will pick Richardson as his running mate. He's fairly well-liked across the political spectrum, and he might help Obama shore up support among Latino voters. Edwards would do a better job as attorney general anyway, and if Obama wins I wouldn't be surprised to see him offer that Edwards, and I'll bet Edwards would accept it.

I'm fairly certain his name wasn't on the ballot. He withdrew in late January, more than 3 months ago.

Oh, lord, no. Someone with some prosecutorial background, please. I don't want anymore political ideologues using the office to push an agenda.

he could have written himself in if he wasn't on the ballot, but mostly it was just a joke.

Seeing as how in reality only a tiny percentage of the Justice Department's most important tasks consist of criminal prosecutions, and about .00000000000000000001% of what the AG himself is involved in overseeing or deciding, I really don't see why having a prosecutorial background would be important.

MaxxLarge [TotalFark] 2008-05-09 12:51:52 PM
Expect that once once this hits the front pages, Edwards will probably try to backpedal. He'll say, "I deliberately said 'I voted for 'em on Tuesday' in order to leave the pronoun out...Sorry my charming drawl got in the way."

Even so...It was a FREUDIAN drawl.

Didn't Edwards have about a dozen non-superdelegates for the convention? This could be close enough his endorsement could be helpful.

Edwards would be a poor VP pick. I think Richardson would be good or the cougar from Kansas, whatever her name is.

Since the Wesley Clark idea has been floated, I'm thinking the General for Veep, Richardson for Sec. of State.

I wish I could work Biden in there. But the other two have practical field experience in diplomacy. Biden's got experience on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Nothing to sneeze at, but maybe not as appealing.

I don't know enough about that woman, but I think Richardson would bring a lot of experience to the table for Obama. I should read up on that bird's career some time.

i do like a general or the like for veep for the sheer fact that it would completely undercut mccain's military credentials.

And as far as military credentials go, being head of NATO is pretty damned hard to beat.

Her name is Kathleen Sebelius, she would be a good choice for VP, but I have a feeling that she has her eye on Sam Brownback's seat in 2010. This is because he has announced that he is not going to be seeking re-election and she gets term limited out of the governor's mansion in 2010.

Obama needs someone with foreign policy experience. Isn't she just a governor?

Yes, she is just a governor... but she is a Democratic governor who has won re-election in a very red mid-western state without selling out her progressive ideals. She would be able to help make the mid-west competitive in November.

Clark would get Swiftboated by the guy who told him "I'm not gonna start World War III for you." Sebelius would get Swiftboated by the Kitty Dukakis question, now updated to Osama. Webb has a definite landmine with "Women Can't Fight."

Basically, anybody Obama picks has problems.

They are more or less ambivalent on her. She strongly supports gun ownership laws (including signing a law which overturned a machine gun ownership ban in Kansas), but she is strongly opposed to conceal/carry handgun laws.

It's over Hillary give it up.

Then Hillary will form the Labour Party of America forcing the Democrats to split in two allowing Republicans to take over Congress again and stay in the White House for another (x amount of) years.

well, as hillary often points out, they are not legally bound to vote for anyone, so it's more like he says "hey, you're my delegates, and i want you to vote for this guy"
