(Telegraph) Cool Problem: You're an unsigned band and you can't afford any camera equipment to make your music video. Solution: Use Britain's network of CCTV cameras and the Freedom of Information act   (telegraph.co.uk) divider line 38

Dude, for the last time, I am not going to listen to your crappy Myspace band.

/got nothing

It's a novel idea that pokes fun at gub'mint and uses their Big Brother technology in a subversive way. Too bad it's sort of a lame generic sounding song.

Cool idea and much kudos to them. Didn't like the song though.

Interesting idea. Too bad they're a Coldplay ripoff.

Haven't you been paying attention? Everything sounds like Coldplay now

I can't imagine how many bands are just going to steal this idea. YouTube will have to start a channel just for these.

Tyrone Bibbins Esquire 2008-05-09 07:35:05 AM
but ya'll have to admit, it's a GREAT idea...

/you didn't think of it
//yeah, sucky music

Shvetz 2008-05-09 07:47:05 AM
Yeah, I'll agree with everybody else. Cool idea for a video, wasted on a generic, mediocre song.

Johnny Chicago 2008-05-09 07:49:27 AM
Inventive, sure, but now that I've read the (increasingly cynical) comments by Fark, I must now say they suck because:

"a Coldplay ripoff"

"dude, everyone sounds like Coldplay"

"crappy Myspace band"

etc.

Hey Farkers, I've got some flies over here you guys could pull the wings off of...?

Instead of talking about how lame and generic the band is, I demand that this turn into a Mitch Benn appreciation thread.

Never Went Through (A Smiths Phase)

Now that's a capital Idea.

That comedian Rob Newman who did The History of Oil thought of this first. I recommend History of Oil, it will blow your mind.

In the future, all bands are Coldplay.

put me down as saqying 'this' to almost all the comments above. The idea is SO good that it is hard to believe that no one thought of it before. The song? meh.

Pretty clever, Uwe Boll would be proud of their government scamming prowess.

That sound you hear? That's the sound of my soul shrieking as it dies a slow and painful death while Chris Martin walks backwards through a field.

/completely lost the will to live

liked the idea wasted on this song yada yada its been said.

+1 for effort

-2 for shaitty ass band

luckybastard 2008-05-09 10:36:38 AM
I had the sound off when I saw the video, so I say 'BRILLIANT!'

/it's like having plausible deniability.

Clever those Brits!

/didn't know they had an FOI act there.

They sounded more like Keane, or even a bit like Supergrass. "they're alright"

carmody 2008-05-09 11:36:02 AM
Perhaps they should give up music and go into video production a la Godley & Creme.

These guys do NOT sound like Supergrass. Supergrass was an amazing band with remarkable songs. If people listen to you, they'll think Supergrass sucked.

I guess it would have been too obvious for Hard-Fi to have done it?

THIS about a million times over. Do not throw crap on the greatest band to ever come out of Oxford (yes, and I'm including that one).

England is a creepy place.

therumblefish 2008-05-09 04:17:46 PM
This definately more a gimmick than it is because of money constraints like the article says. There is obviously some fottage shot with a handheld camcorder that looks just fine, so they could have done a normal performance recording without having to go through all the trouble.

Still a neat idea though.

kruppz 2008-05-09 04:47:17 PM
i got pissed when i saw them set up in the street, blocking traffic.
in Canada, we yell "car", move our gear, and let the car pass.

"I'm missing my tee-off time for THIS lame song?".. subsequent vehicular assault on a poorly used drumset.

chuggernaught 2008-05-09 06:46:48 PM
Very nice.

I love the couple times when the security cameras zoom in and you know there is someone sitting at a desk, watching the monitor going "what the fark are they doing?" and has to zoom in for a closer look.

very creative

I thought they sounded vaguely like the band they apparently stole their name from - The Get Up Kids - crossed with early 80's madchester bands - Joy Division et al.

Generic, though. Yeah. The video makes up for it a bit.

This does not sound a THING like Joy Division. Trust me, I own every recording they've ever made.

depressed white guys singing? sounds like Joy Division to me.

nothing special, but it wasn't that bad either.
