Lionel Mandrake, I came in here to make a smartass comment about Gary Glitter, and I'm glad I didn't, because yours is so much better than mine would have been.

On Saturday night, 13 August 1938, at the Three Forks roadhouse outside Greenwood, Mississippi, just before Hammond's emissary could collect Johnson, the Devil showed up to collect his due.

You can run, you can run;
tell my friend Willie Brown.
You can run, you can run;
tell my friend Willie Brown.
'at I got the crossroad blues this mornin', Lord
babe, I'm sinkin' down.

Robert had made friends with the houseman's wife. Sonny Boy Williamson, who'd showed up that night as a special attraction, smelled trouble, and when an unsealed bottle was handed to Johnson, he knocked it out of Johnson's hand. But Johnson rebuked him, and when a second such bottle appeared, Johnson drank. During the next set, his voice failed him, then his guitar playing. By Tuesday, he was dead.

So the story goes...

I was playing some of Mr Johnson's stuff on the stereo at the deli I worked at and a coworker said, "I liked the original better. You know. Led Zepplen?"

Yeah, like Robert Johnson gave a good goddamn about English language usage in his songs.

Sheesh.

i give you points for either not knowing or simply ignoring the following possibilities

... if a liter submitted it, they can't comment yet
... why would someone want to out themselves on an error like that? (been there, done that)
... they might not really care if you think they should bother to comment
... they posted in the thread before you commented

/not submitter, just thought you made a lot of assumptions

"I went down to the crossroads
Fell down on my knees
Asked the lord above for mercy
Save poor Bob if you please"

The devil is never mentioned in Crossroads Blues

The myth says he was told to go to a crossroad and he wrote a song about crossroads. The crossroads are not mutually exclusive. POPS

If not for Led Zeppelin, I would have not known about Robert Johnson.
If anything, they made Johnson more famous than he would have been without LZ's exposure.

Wiki says that Johnson has heirs so I wonder if they get any royalties from LZ.

CDP [TotalFark] 2008-05-09 11:09:30 AM
Robert Johnson was one of the most influential artists of the last 100 years. Too bad most of the "Rock-n-rollers" have no idea that they are listening to a Robert Johnson cover, or more often than not a rip-off of his work.

Having said that I believe I'll dust my broom, and can go to the crossroads to start that journey to sweet home Chicago before those damned Hellhounds find my trail again.

they do not get royalties...because he was never even given credit... go look at the credits...AND THOSE SONGS, AS I UNDERSTAND IT--are past copywrite, and now free reign

AND..

WHO CARES HOW I SPELL LZ.. i hope all surviving members die of horrible infections...
