"We don't accept 2,025. It is not the real number because that does not include Florida and Michigan," said Howard Wolfson, one of Clinton's two chief strategists. "It's a phony number."

Wolfson said they intend to contest the DNC's 2,025 number "every day," as well as any declaration of victory made by Obama based upon that number, because it does not include Florida and Michigan.

... Obama will not reach the 2,025 magic number on May 20. Rather, on that date he is all but certain to hit a different threshold-1,627 pledged delegates, which would constitute a winning majority among the 3,253 total pledged delegates if Florida and Michigan are not included.

typical clinton argument. contest something that isn't even technically being posited, and then put your fingers in your ears and repeat it ad infinitum.

It's a fair bet that he has his super-delegates all line up so on 5/20 the delegates he gets with the primaries in Oregon and Kentucky put him over 2025.

That's the only way he can declare victory without causing an uproar. He's too smart to do otherwise.

Well, they were phony primaries. Funny how that works, eh Howard (you smug POS)?

I would say he should wait till the May 31 DNC rules committee meeting. That would be gracious.

UNLESS...

He breaks the magic number 0f 2025, giving the silent superdelegates from California the reason they'd need to defy the state's popular vote and cross over to Obama.

I agree. He will have enough delegates and votes to make both of those states inconsequential at that point and it would help repair the party if he waits until then.

Hillary's chance to exit gracefully has come and gone though. I think he's tired of waiting for that to happen. And I think Hillary would rather be pushed out against her will than admit defeat. She'll have others to blame then.

Clinton's big mistake was waiting until now to make this argument. I'm not even saying it's valid now. But by waiting to make the argument, it's desperation. The mantra of the Clinton campaign should have been "2209!" since the Florida primary.

It is cute to see how Republicans like the_rev still think they can win in November. Sure the average person is stupid, but the first time they have a debate on healthcare and Obama breaks it down into a sound bite that John McCain wants to take away the incentive for your company to give you insurance McCain is farking toast. Period, end of story. If the American people are not nuanced enough to realize that Trinity United Church of Christ is not a Muslim Mosque, then they are not going to understand the failed logic in the idea that some how choice trumps demand in economics.

"Before I get piled on...I still have a reasonable expectation of Hillary winning this nomination."

Well, I guess that makes 5 of us; you, me, Hillary, Bill and Chelsea.

I am sadly disappointed in the responses from many of the people (but not all by all means) on this site. Just a week or so ago, everybody was crowing so loudly about the end of Obama due to his scandals, his loss in PA. etc. "Oh how the Obama people are in tears" you bellowed with such puffed out chests. Now Hillary comes from behind and wins IN and loses a state she never really had a chance to win, and look at all the sunshine patriots. I guess Hillary deserves to lose if this is the mental state of her most loyal followers. If Richardson is Judas Priest, you are Peter the denier "I never knew the woman."

I truly pray that Hillary never visits this site as it has been rumored. She would drop out for sure.

BTW, Obamabots know she is going to win too. You don't threaten to riot when things are going your way. Think about that for a minute.

What fearful and disgusting candidate and his SVENGALI MENTOR,THE MAD and DANGEROUS JERAMIAH. Wake up Americans,Black and WHITE alike,or future and our lives are about to be changed forever. Hillary is way off. The 2,209 delegate total that they're spouting is entirely too low. I mean, the nation's housepets haven't yet had the chance to vote. Yes, the rules may say that quadrupeds don't deserve a voice in the primary process, but I think that's too large a segment of the electorate to alienate before the general election.

I kind of agree. But back when it would have been appropriate to challenge the ruling, she was heir apparent. I kind of think that's why Dean came down hard on the states (unlike the RNC that said the delegate counts would be halved as punishment). He had no clue how close it was going to be.

Anyone have the list of quotes from Wolfson earlier this year where he completely contradicts the 2209 assertion repeatedly?

/running for president under the 'Clinton' brandname...$200 million
//cost of continuing the campaign after $$ dries up...$11.4 mill
///showing desparation for the nom by repeatedly changing the rules you yourself established... priceless

Getting the Dem NOMNOMNOM takes 2,025 delegates. For everything else there's Clinton Math.

So her argument is that Obama doesn't win because he doesn't reach 2209. Question for them... who *does* when then since, you know, Hillary is further from that number than Obama? Will the election end up being McCain vs NULL or something?

I think her opinion has been that it wouldn't even matter if Obama cracked her fairy tale made up number. It doesn't matter if he beats her in the primary. Because, in her mind, she's the only one who can defeat McCain.

It's the only argument she has left, and the weakest one yet.

No. They will be able to force a brokered convention. That's been Hillary's only real hope for the last couple of months.

beav: Question for them... who *does* when then since, you know, Hillary is further from that number than Obama?

Well, even with MI and FL being seated, Hillary would still be behind in the pledged delegate count, so her strategy is to stay in as long as possible and hope Obama gets caught with a dead hooker, then try to pull his superdelegates away.
