NIN/Skinny Puppy/Ministry debate begin in 3....2....1....

Saw this tour on 2 stops: The New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, and then last Friday at Irving Plaza. Do yourself a favor, go see them, they were farking great.

Get there early and see Meshuggah too. Best set I've seen them put on in ten years.

That was my question to when i submitted the story, but no mention of anything else on the link... coz frankly I could NOT give a crap about his side project EXCEPT for 1,000 homo dj's

By "pioneer(ing) the industrial thrash sound," did the article's author mean "sounding like Big Black but being on a major label"?

To be fair, it's hard to dance to Jordan, Minnesota

1,000 Homo DJs was a one-off project.

Ya they have a few songs (5? not even a full album worth), including one called Hey Asshole, that I find better than Supernaut.

um, yeah, that's the ticket.

Brodan: What about Pigface or the Revolting Cocks?

Al doesn't have anything to do with Pigface and never did. That's all Martin Atkins.
Revolting Cocks has one more album due in September, followed by a tour. Then, according to the latest buzz, he's going to hand over the RevCo name to the other guys currently in the band to do with as they please.

Stopheles: By "pioneer(ing) the industrial thrash sound," did the article's author mean "sounding like Big Black but being on a major label"?

Yeah, but Ministry actually cared about being and successful and sounding good, whereas Big Black was happy to stay lo-fi and low pressing.

Four songs.
Supernaut - the collaboration with Reznor
Better Ways and Apathy - leftovers from the Land Of Rape And Honey sessions
Hey Asshole - the one with the ranting cop

Nestea Plunge: This is bad news.

The only sucky post Arista Ministry disc is Dark side of the Spoon. Incoherent crap. Everything else is farking killer. From Land of Rape and Honey to Rio Grande Blood

I came here to post that Dark side of the spoon was my favorite of his work. But what the fark do I know?
Every one of his albums have his sound and are very different from one another at the same time. Thats why I like his sorry ass.
So you don't like his incoherent stuff huh?

Martstar 2008-05-08 12:28:57 PM
Maybe now he'll get the chance to really enjoy that hot rod that Jesus built for him.

mekkab [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-05-08 12:31:10 PM
You know what? getting old sucks, and touring is a pain in the ass. Good for him; he'll keep making music and make the party come to HIM.

/Hmmmm, fark party in his studio? Lets get on this!

supichoo [TotalFark] 2008-05-08 12:40:09 PM
Ministry hasn't been industrial for a decade. Saw them a month ago and they sounded great. The place went nuts for the classics (jesus built my hotrod, NWO, etc.)

Al had great energy for a 50 year old lifelong smackhead.

MCStymie 2008-05-08 12:50:25 PM
Ministry is no more, and motherfarking Rage Against The Machine is back together?

Yeah, I know RATM isn't industrial, but it's still some fuxated bin'ness.

/Someone call Laibach. We need them.

EbolaNYC [TotalFark] 2008-05-08 01:01:41 PM
Everything after NWO sucked ass.

Why the hell did they turn into a boring-ass metal band??

GossipTrain 2008-05-08 01:03:33 PM
Pailhead "Trait" is still one of my favorites. Wish they could have put out some more stuff.

Sherjo311 2008-05-08 01:08:35 PM
IMO if you got into industrial music in the '90's with Ministry, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult, etc... you had moved on within a few years of constantly trying to find a new decent industrial act to listen to. Ministry and NIN were the only two bands to move forward from their roots and continue to make great music. I haven't heard, nor have I been looking for, anything remotely industrial that was worth the wait of downloading since the mid 90's.

/Filthpig is still more freakin epic than anything Al & Co. have ever done.

FeedTheCollapse 2008-05-08 01:09:02 PM
Stopheles: By "pioneer(ing) the industrial thrash sound," did the article's author mean "sounding like Big Black but being on a major label"?

I'd say Big Black were completely separate from the Industrial scene, but did influence Ministry. Either way, Ministry were one of the first to mix electronics with metal/punk.The only electronic component of Big Black was Roland.

Bot v2.38beta: NIN/Skinny Puppy/Ministry debate begin in 3....2....1....
as embrassing as Dark Side of the Spoon was, it's not nearly as awful as new Skinny Puppy. Not to mention Ministry followed-up that abortion with one of their best albums. (though I haven't been too impressed with anything since Animositisomina.)

Acid Horse - "No Name, No Slogan"

"In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up"
Documenting one of the BEST tours I've ever seen.

/IMHO

FeedTheCollapse 2008-05-08 01:11:33 PM
Sherjo311: you had moved on within a few years of constantly trying to find a new decent industrial act to listen to.
Not to mention most of those bands either broke up (Skinny Puppy) and/or moved onto something else (ministry, NIN) by about 96. Or you have Front Line Assembly and KMFDM more or less releasing the same albums every 2 years. Everything else is god-awful club music for goths.

Whoops. The album is material from 2006, and a new web store on the Laibach site should be opening this month.

Am i the only one who gave up on them after Psalm 69, and was pleasantly surprised with some of the new stuff? Couple of songs on RIO GRANDE were frankly, almost as good as anything they ever put out (havent heard last sucker yet)

On a side note, I've been listening to Nitzer Ebb all day.

fish500 2008-05-08 01:28:17 PM
I saw them on South Street in Philly last week. I thought their set list was lacking many songs that should have been played. Then their second encore were all covers. I know he has some cover album project but for me to go out like some two-bit bar band really stunk. But hey, whose to tell old Uncle Al he can't go out doing Under My Thumb and whatever other songs they covered. Glad I saw em when I had the chance.

FileUnderCS 2008-05-08 01:33:02 PM
I will be at the Chicago show tomorrow night! Al is one of my all-time favorite musicians. So much great material over the years -- some crappy ones too, but we can't all be Lennon and McCartney.

I can also attest that 1,000 Homo DJs "Hey Asshole" is one of the funniest tracks Al ever lent his talents to. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Yeah, but any DJ can get the kids moving to "Kerosene." And when did "industrial" become about dancing, anyway?

/prefer tape-loops-and-oscillator-feedback industrial (Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK) to Wax Trax death disco, but am softening on that orthodoxy as I get older...

Torc 2008-05-08 01:55:54 PM
Didn't he announce Ministry breaking up like a year ago? I know this was touted as a farewell tour.

Al was never in pigface.

1000 homo djs released one single.. and they talked about the cocks... read the article..

J13P 2008-05-08 05:11:50 PM
the set lists for the new tour have all sucked.. al has routinely ditched the meet and greet he promised to do, in whicxh fans paid 100 dollars to be able to go to...

i was excited when i heard about this tour..and I have since sold my passes to the shows...

I was a huge ministry fan, and student of ex guitarist the late wiliam tucker. They have done amazing things in the past..but its been a downhill slope for al since paul barker left the band.

they should have hung it up years ago..

Every Ministry CD I have ever owned was stolen...I hope someone is out enjoying them. And I hope that person slips in the shower and drowns and no one finds them for a few days.

GroverXIII, surely you jest. i have a huge stash of xian industrial music sitting right next to all the regular stuff. Circle of dust, chatterbox, under midnight, Mortal (one of my fave bands to this day), etc all did great stuff and didn't suffer from being "watered-down"
