I wonder if any of them will be influenced by their children- a lot of the women Clinton is winning are of the age to have high school through college age children, who are HEAVILY Obama. And as the summer nears, and their children spend more time at home, this might play a factor.
especially in this generation where the children have in general very good relationships with their parents.

What a flake. Leap off a bridge, grandma.

Its funny, I know that old white women are the only people really supporting Hillary at this point. But i must say almost everyone I personally know who is old and white and female (ie my aunts and mother and grandmother) are big Obama supporters. And my family isn't particularly leftist or anything. More like yellow-dog democrats who you would assume would go for Hillary.

Bah. Meh. Feh.

They are voting for Hillary out of gender default. The same reason blacks are voting for Obama. And old people are voting for McCain and Clinton.

When that option is removed, I'm sure many of the older ones are going to default to McCain, but the younger ones are going end up going to Obama.

You can bank on one thing though.. There is not many pro-life people voting for Hillary. The "pro-choice" vs "pro-life" argument is going to be used on these voters... and the vast majority of non-baby-boomer ones are going to fall right in line.

My grandmother is in her 70s and wants Obama. Why? "He's reminds me too much of JFK. It's eerie."

TFARecent polls from Gallup and others and exit polls from Pennsylvania have shown more Clinton voters than Obama voters would vote Republican in the fall if their preferred candidate fails to win the Democratic nomination. Almost 7 out of 10 Obama voters would cast ballots for Clinton compared to barely 50 percent of Clinton voters in PA saying they'd support Obama in the fall.

Her supporters may feeling a bit emotional now, but after a few months they'll get over it. All the more reason for Clinton to get out of the race sooner rather than later.

/Obama supporter
//would vote for Clinton in the general on judicial appointments alone

Check out the Licthman scale for presidential elections. It has correctly predicted (or retrospectively agrees) with every single election in American history.

KEY 1 (Party Mandate): After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives than it did after the previous midterm elections. (FALSE)

KEY 2 (Contest): There is no serious contest for the incumbent-party nomination. (FALSE)

KEY 3 (Incumbency): The incumbent-party candidate is the sitting president. (FALSE)

KEY 4 (Third party): There is no significant third-party or independent campaign. (UNCERTAIN)

KEY 5 (Short-term economy): The economy is not in recession during the election campaign. (UNCERTAIN)

KEY 6 (Long-term economy): Real per-capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms. (UNCERTAIN)

KEY 7 (Policy change): The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy. (FALSE)

KEY 8 (Social unrest): There is no sustained social unrest during the term. (TRUE)

KEY 9 (Scandal): The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal. (TRUE)

KEY 10 (Foreign/military failure): The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs. (FALSE)

KEY 11 (Foreign/military success): The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs. (FALSE)

KEY 12 (Incumbent charisma): The incumbent-party candidate is charismatic or a national hero. (FALSE)

KEY 13 (Challenger charisma): The challenging-party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero. (?)

I would argue that Obama constintutes a charismatic candidate on the level of JFK or FDR (Litchman's examples) so I'll give that a FALSE and a point for the Dems, though the Dems win either way:

Results: TRUE: 2 KEYS; FALSE: 8 KEYS; UNCERTAIN: 3 KEYS
Prediction: INCUMBENT REPUBLICANS LOSE POPULAR VOTE

Not that it looks even worse because 2 of the uncertains are about the health of the economy and those look pretty dire for the Republicans.

Neeek [TotalFark] 2008-05-08 03:41:57 AM
TFComments:We are at war, in a recession, torture our prisoners, among many other serious problems. Obama has very little experience, no matter how he and his supporters want to spend it.

Irony: The only candidate that was competent enough in this race to never have financial troubles was Obama. Clinton raised more money in 2007 than any candidate in history did in the preceding year, and started the year practically broke. McCain went completely broke than had to violate campaign finance laws to recover.

Now tell me, why do these people think that she's got what it takes to deal with a recession? She failed miserably at managing the finances of the three single largest projects she's ever been in charge of (she farked up in both her Senate races, financially. She just had so much money it didn't matter.)

Neeek [TotalFark] 2008-05-08 03:46:00 AM
Bill Frist: KEY 9 (Scandal): The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal. (TRUE)

KEY 12 (Incumbent charisma): The incumbent-party candidate is charismatic or a national hero. (FALSE)

KEY 13 (Challenger charisma): The challenging-party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero. (?)

Uh...Key 9 is False. The Bush administration has had more major scandals than the last 6 Presidents put together. Key 12 is probably true. McCain is at least reasonably hero-like, and Key 13 is true. Obama is overwhelmingly charismatic.

Alphax: Did I read that right? Women who are past menopause don't care about Roe vs. Wade, since they can't have kids anymore? How selfish is that?

Long answer: Quite a lot of over 60 year old Democratic women were heavily into feminism in the 60's and 70's, and still view the world as a struggle between feminism and the Patriarcy. The only person an old feminist hates more than a man is a young woman who's grown up without caring about pushing "the cause". It's bizarre, but you only have to read any of the old guards' writing to see a real resentment of young women. Andrea Dworkin, Robin Morgan, Catharine MacKinnon, Valerie Solanas, pretty much any of the anti-pornograpy feminists - they all view "3rd wave' feminists as sellouts. They looked at Hillary as their last chance to see a woman in the White House, and they'll be damned if someone's going to steal that from them. If Hillary isn't elected, the rest of us "deserve" McCain.

Short answer: they're bitter old hags who only vote for vaginas.

//Disclaimer - not all 60+ women are like that, obviously. Just those who vote solely on gender.

NEEK:

Let me note that I didn't do that anaylises, I think Lichtman himself did.

However, those labels for the keys don't describe them fully.

Yes, I agree that Bush and his administration is corrupt as fark and there have been a ton of scandals. But KEY 9 really means MAJOR major scandals ala Watergate or the Teapot Dome scandal. Bush doesn't have anything like that really.

KEY 12 likewise means a true hero figure in a vein of George Washinton or Dwight Eisenhower, not just anyone who was in combat and got a medal (John Kerry wouldn't have gotten that Key either, though people called him a war hero)

Neeek [TotalFark] 2008-05-08 04:02:26 AM

Plamegate and Scooter Libby being pardoned for it should count. The latter being simple enough for everyone to understand and be angry about. What happened there is actually worse than either Watergate or Teapot Dome.

So he gets elected to the US Senate, then gets the nomination of the Democratic Party for President after serving THREE YEARS in the Senate. Raises hundreds of millions of dollars. Yet America is too racist to elect him.

Don't forget that he's set a new record for number of people voting for him in the history of primary campaigns. He's won a majority of states, and has set fundraising records with a record number of individual campaign donors (>1.5 million). By a number of measures, he has performed better than most major party candidates in recent history, in terms of generating popular support. Yet America is too racist to elect him. Yeah, sure.

Agreed. There is not much more hate than feminism hate. The hypocrisy of the old guard is staggering too. The then President of NOW demanded every member firmly support womanizer Clinton during his ordeals. WTF?

Old, bitter and no longer needed: The new motto for NOW and their ilk.
