The guy who wrote this article is the coolest guy ever.

Okay, I guess I kind of like the refrain, "If you love me, won't you let me know,"...

A sign of a closet fan if I ever read one.

I've heard Coldplay before, so there's no worries about me downloading it.

Coldplay should be banned here in the States.

Actually, make that the whole goddamn Western Civilization.

irockalot: A sign of a closet fan if I ever read one.

Indeed. A true closet fan will bash something endlessly only to admit they like a small portion of it. I don't hate Coldplay, even if 40 Year Old Virgin told me its cool to, but I'm definately not drooling over Chris Martin's dick (his baby's mama on the other hand...). If the last cd is any indication, this one won't really be able to live up to what made them good in the first place.

VickInABox 2008-05-07 01:49:41 PM
I liked "Clocks." Then I realized that every Coldplay song is a variation of "Clocks." A BAD variation. My sister-in-law suckered me into going to see them on their last tour and I can honestly say I've never seen a more boring show. The audience was dead (except for an annoying Chris Martin fangirl who was shrieking like she was at a Hannah Montana concert) and the band didn't even try.

I'm going to spend a portion of my stimulus check on this album.

Are there any English farkers around? I need a little etymology help here - are Coldplay wankers and Radiohead tossers, or is it the other way around? Or is it the best we can do to say that Coldplay and Radiohead collectively are a bunch of wankers and tossers?

GimpyNip 2008-05-07 02:11:22 PM
Coldplay and Radiohead are basically the same band except Coldplay is a little bit more experimental and the singer isn't as ugly.

You're insane, Radiohead is way more experimental and sometimes downright weird.

Also, all of you are crazy, Coldplay is awesome. I'm learning to play piano just so I can play Coldplay and select Tom Waits songs.

I'll admit the hook for Clocks is good... then they just repeat said hook for another 4 minutes. Bleh.

/will never forgive Coldplay for "Yellow".

Radiohead and Coldplay are not even in the same league. Radiohead is easily one of the biggest bands in the world, and their musical complexity and artistry is 2nd to none.

Try listening to a few tracks from In Rainbows and tell me any Coldplay track from any one of their cd's is even half as good.

OK i'll give you the "one of the biggest bands" part, but "complexity second to none"? Come ON.

MikoSquiz 2008-05-07 09:33:36 PM
Look. Yes, Coldplay should rightfully receive beatings for "Yellow" and "In My Place", both of which are boring-as-fark repetitive indie-whinge-ballads. However, "The Scientist" and "Spies" are two of the greatest pop songs to come out of the UK ever, and on the whole they've got a pretty good batting average. They're not exactly Radiohead or The Smiths but then they never claimed to be.

Also, I couldn't find the download link on their website so I just gave up and downloaded the song off p2p; much simpler.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-05-07 10:52:37 PM
Call me crazy, but with Radiohead's "In Rainbows", i thought they inched a little closer to Coldplay "X&Y" land...

Even thought i liked it, i thought there was something a little more slick and mainstream about "In Rainbows" than their previous albums... and something about their songwriting / lyrics quality... maybe it went down a little tiny notch... [can't put my finger on it]... some songs on it feel as if they're 85% baked... that they could've developed some songs a little more...

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-05-07 10:54:12 PM

When you have to resort to arguing about a bands "complexity and artistry" you've already demonstrated that they suck. Fine, maybe they are skiled musicians, that doesn't mean they make good music.

It wasn't so much of an argument but a statement. However I would argue that a band must make good music to sell every ticket to a concert within a day, especially when it's being held 4 months later. My dam 1-day procrastination caused me to miss the Houston Radiohead show that's coming up... Lots of people evidently like bad music.

I was never a huge fan of NIN, but I did download that CD to check it out. It's mostly 90's style drum machines until you hit track 4. Track 4 is awesome! Track 5 wasn't as good and I stopped listening in favor of some more Liberty City fun time.
