I submitted this (new window) earlier but without his MySpace page; Tom Scholz is right, hearing this guy sing is eerie.

He's a little higher but yeah... And I don't know why I'm reminded of this, but when Bon Scott from AC/DC died, the Sunday School teachers at church told us Brian Johnson was able to sound so much like him because he allowed the demon to enter his body after Bon died.

Reminds me of the Filipino guy who became Journey's singer:

USA Today story (new window) from my redlit link. Pretty cool.

Seriously? Oh man, that's comedy gold.

I wish I'd have gone to Sunday School - sounds hilarious.

This is why I sound remarkably like Karen Carpenter and am so frightened of cookies..

I was ready to come in here and biatch about how wrong it was for Boston to continue without Delp. After listening to the guy sing, I can safely say that I was wrong.

mug_costanza 2008-05-05 10:35:29 PM
Agreed. He's actually pretty good.

I thought the same thing. When I found the link to his Myspace page I was amazed at how good he sounds. I am pretty shocked that I got a greenlight with a Myspace page link though.

I farkin' grew up listenin' to Boston, and thought Brad Delp's death killed it. Guess I was wrong! This is one of the few bands where the lead's replacement sounds better, the other being AC/DC.

That story about the demon transfer was great!! Fundies are so dam@ed stupid, aren't they? I wanna have the demon transfer from Hugh Hefner's body to mine after he takes the dirt nap.

who cares if he sings Boston tunes great?

i got sick of hearing their two or three hit tunes on classic rock radio many many years ago, sadly.
forced to listen to the radio at work.

whatever, it all sounds the fuhking same.
tom scholz riffing on joe walsh

listen, i was 14 when Boston came out, and i had the album too,
but please, let it DIE, you old losers.

one trick pony band- in the end the taste is bland.

Who cares what you think? Nobody is forcing you to listen, and nobody appointed you as arbiter of "things that go on and things that don't"

chickyraptor 2008-05-05 11:00:17 PM
And look what they sell at Home Depot.

puskunk 2008-05-05 11:06:28 PM
wow, it's eerie. I too was all set to come in here and biatch, but the guy's good.

mailnride 2008-05-05 11:07:34 PM
This just made my day!! He sounds so much like Delp, it's eerie. I feel so sorry for Brad, his family and everyone who knew him.

THIS is the very definition of Boston for you, the DIY rock band. Before the debut, Scholz was a Project Manager at Polaroid, and an MIT grad when he recorded the 1st album. He recorded parts of the 1st album inside of a plywood, carpet lined box he built in the basement of his townhouse.

What a great story!

The USA Today article was awesome. He's 43? The pic of him in his Home Depot apron just made it!

When and where is his first Boston gig? I want to be there when he "woke up this morning, and the sun was gone. Turned on some music to start my day," in front of 30,000.

IronTom [TotalFark] 2008-05-05 11:33:24 PM
Doesn't Tom Sholze, or maybe the drummer from Boston own a hardware store in Central Florida?

Keldhera 2008-05-06 12:12:29 AM
thats too good.

Lizardking 2008-05-06 12:40:58 AM
He'll do

infectedketchup 2008-05-06 01:11:56 AM
this is blasphemy. i mean, sure the guy's got talent and everything but...somehow boston without delp just doesn't seem right. i suppose it will do, but...damnit it just doesn't feel right

gundamtsubasa [TotalFark] 2008-05-06 02:54:54 AM
I wish there was hope to see Queen play with someone sounding as close to Freddie Mercury as this guy sounds to Brad Delp. Sadly, we get Paul Rodgers instead. That's just so farking wrong.

SuperCatBarf [TotalFark] 2008-05-06 04:45:14 AM
This is just some scam to milk personal info from Home Depot customers for the DHS.

Control_this [TotalFark] 2008-05-06 05:04:19 AM
Very weird to have a singer you know passed all of Home Depot's drug tests.

syrynxx [TotalFark] 2008-05-06 06:44:57 AM
Boo for no Illinois dates. "More Than a Feeling" is track #1 in my shower CD player; makes for a good start to the day.

hiltinuts2 2008-05-06 08:46:46 AM
good story subby

StubePT 2008-05-06 10:09:53 AM
Damn... and after getting 95% on Expert in Rock Band doing More Than a Feeling, I thought the job was mine.

And yes, I can hit the high note and hold it for the entire duration.

I love Boston, and this guy seems like a really nice guy. However his delivery seems really wooden. There's no warmth.

panamahighway 2008-05-07 01:15:35 AM
He's decent, but seriously, do they need a new singer? I'm assuming they're not going to put out any new albums, and frankly, I'm sure most Boston fans would not want them to. So they're hiring this guy for touring purposes I suppose, and once again, if I was a big Boston fan, I wouldn't want to see a version of the band 20 to 30 years after their hits, minus the original lead singer.

CravenMorehead 2008-05-07 09:27:32 PM
panamahighway: I'm assuming they're not going to put out any new albums,

They are doing a new album. The last one was horrible and I was a big fan of 3rd stage. I'll buy it when it comes out just cuz, but I doubt it will be any good.
