I happen to think that Avril was developing quite nicely as a songwriter and a genuinely talented young artist... until the decision to make this current record: awful in just about every way. Most of the blame for her regression goes to her label, though. "We're losing the 5-12 demographic!", forgetting that kids don't actally buy records anymore. Many jobs at Sony will be lost over this, but she'll take the fall for it in the end. She had a very comfy place in heavy AOR rotation before this and it will be very difficult to get that place back. I took my 10 year old niece to see her a couple of weeks ago; she's a wonderful performer and there were many empty seats. Sad.
