We deserve a lot of credit that we are trying to do what we can with what we got," said Karen Finney, the DNC's communications director

pelosi and company haven't done anything so that's what they'll get

What the DNC has doesn't paint an accurate picture.

The Democratic Congression Campaign Committee (DCCC) is flush with cash, and has $17 million more than its Republican counterpart, the RCCC.

The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee (DSCC) is also raising 4-5 times much money as the RSCC.

Not to mention that Obama raises 5x more money than Old Man McCain.

The last things the Democrats need to worry about is cash.

Not to mention that the Democrats picked up a blood red House seat yesterday, in a special election (new window). The Republicans are in trouble.

From the article's second page:

"And many Democrats believe that wealthy donors are waiting out the primary before giving to the national party."

Gee, ya think? "Hey, I've got a few thousand dollars lying around - should I spend it on attacking my own party, or wait 'till we're attacking the other party? Hmm..."

OttoDog 2008-05-04 09:35:45 AM
I liked the "selected quotes from the works of Obama" in the "Comments" section.

Wow.

Anyway, I'd guess a lot of folks are wondering what exactly the DNC's done since they got both houses in `06.

hubcity: And many Democrats believe that wealthy donors are waiting out the primary before giving to the national party."

actually the wealthy donors are only allowed the max for both the primary and the general. they'll max both. it's the "not quite wealthy" that will wait.

ThematicDevice 2008-05-04 09:48:05 AM
Doesn't this also balance the disparity between Obama and McCain?

I thought it was, with the mention of ABCNNBCBS. Or are you one of those who pretend the media is liberal?

They put the chimp on ice. Thats good enough for the moment. Additionally In 08, repubs have to defend nearly half their senate seats. You can't get much done in heavily politicized Washington without 60 votes in the senate - regardless of who the next president is going to be.

I assume it's blue, like most of us who live in the reality based community. But since you're apparently a resident of the fringe planet of Rightytopia that may be lost on you.

The media isn't liberal by any stretch of the imagination. If it was then both Bush and Cheney would've been impeached by now and hung out in front of the White House by their balls.

I'm not sure what's wrong with your television, but I have seen non stop "GodAAAAAMMMMN Amurka!!11eleventyeleven" for the past two weeks, but have heard nary a peep about the right wing's savior soothsayers and their neanderthal spiels.

But, if you keep saying 'the press is liberal' enough times, you'll probably still continue to believe that, so go right ahead.

Don Cazayoux (D) just beat out Woody Jenkins (R) last night in LA-06.

The Republican party is dying a slow, smelly death.

For all the concern trolling, the DNC has raised a lot more money than it normally does during mid-term and off-years. The drop-off has been for this presidential election year for obvious reasons.

It's also *spending* it at fairly good clip - investing in the 50 state strategy which is already paying dividends.

In any case, the Presidential campaigns and the congresional committees aren't having any trouble raising money so the DNC is free to keep building infrastructure that will pay off in the long-term.

Suicidal Writer 2008-05-04 10:28:12 AM
Look on the bright side of things. The DNC out raised the entire Libertarian and Green Parties.

Actually, there is not anything in the constitution that says "Separation of Church and State" it does say that the federal government will not 'establish religion'.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Basically, the US Government cannot require everyone to follow one religion nor can they interfere with religious institutions. Separation of church and state came from a letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists Link Link (new window)

So technically he's right.

Because for once, Ha Ha Guy is one of the most observant pundits in the room. Obama voters are loyal to Obama, not to the Democratic Party. They can ignore that at their own peril.

TheGreatGazoo 2008-05-04 12:58:06 PM
The DNC has always been short on cash. A lot of their problems now is that people see Howard Dean as a nincompoop.

TheGreatGazoo: A lot of their problems now is that people see Howard Dean as a nincompoop.

Yeah, he really screwed the pooch in the 2006 elections. I mean the Democratic Party only recaptured both houses of Congress. That 50-state-strategy was a disaster; they've been doing nothing but winning races ever since.

The DNC vs. RNC figure is only one part of the fund raising picture. At the moment, the Democrats and the Republicans are equally matched in total funds received, with the Democrats ahead of the GOP in every category except DNC/RNC.
