There is no way an Obama/Hanks ticket could lose. Shiat, members of McCain's family might vote for Obama then - because it's TOM HANKS. Really, who votes against Tom Hanks?

So I knew a girl who worked at Disneyland and saw her share of celebrities. She would often complain about how short and dirty famous people were in real life, but not Tom Hanks, no, he was tall and clean.

**********************************************************
Somewhere in her castle, Hillary has a magic mirror, and when she used to ask "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who's the fairest one of all?", it used to say "You dear are the fairest one of all, and will soon be Queen". But recently it has been saying something like "You dear are loved, but there is someone in the kingdom named Bonbon Biracial that is loved even more than you are." Lacking a poison apple that can put Bonbon Biracial to sleep for a hundred years .... um I think I am confusing Snow White with Sleeping Beauty, and can't imagine what Hillary will do instead of a poison apple, but I am convinced she has a magic mirror that she has been consulting.

burning_bridge: Predictably knee-jerk, overdefensive bag of fail. When you need the joke explained to you, it takes all the fun out of it. You see, Tom Hanks once played the part of Forrest Gump. That character, much like yourself, happens to be a little slower than most. Some here would have a similar opinion of Clinton's various supporters and voting demographic. Thus the joke is as follows: Given that both "Forrest", aka Tom Hanks, and Clinton supporters share a common link, namely the clear lack of intelligence, Clinton should naturally have "Forrest's" support on lockdown. Does that help at all? *end snarky, not even remotely serious jab*

Oh for crying out loud (literally, I'm crying at your logical ineptness here).

What part of WITHDRAW THE TROOPS FROM IRAQ, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, APOLLO PROGRAM FOR RENEWABLE ENERGIES and TRANSPARENCY IN GOVERNMENT do you not get? Those are the major policies Obama is about.

The thing is, this is the policy of the entire democratic party. It's not something that's hidden, it's out there and everyone knows about it.

People, and celebrities like Hanks (they is not people), are voting for Obama because they believe he has the capability to get these done, unlike Hillary. This thus comes down to characters, so it's why they talk about the his truthyness, his charisma (people do things for people they like), and those other non-policy things which make an effective leader.

It's obvious to most democrats what policies the two candidates stand for, so repeating them would be kind of pointless...the goal in this race is to try and highlight who you think will best enact those policies...and enact them in the SPIRIT of those policies.

So for example, that's why some people don't like Hillary's take on universal health care and charging a fine for those who don't sign up...it kind of defeats the point of trying to help those who don't have the cash to buy health care in the first place. There are lots of examples of this where it's clear Obama understands the spirit of the policies vs. Hillary who more often seems to use those policies as talking points to get votes.

But anyhow, back to our regularly scheduled program (pogrom?) of 'Is BHO a Muslim?' and 'Where does he get all that hot air?' and 'Barack's cousin's sisters uncle's roommates former best friend said something dumbass, yaaaarrr!!!'.

That was amusing, but I would've liked to see actual policy reasons for supporting him. Also, Obama won't be swearing to uphold the Constitution until January (although nice touch highlighting the "on the Holy Bible" to counter the Muslim retardomeme).

you do realize it was tom hanks, right? this isn't a congressman or an economist or anything, it's the guy from turner and hooch. i don't exactly expect him to be a policy wonk, nor do i particularly care to hear his analysis of policy.

This is how this conversation went:

1.) Hanks makes a statement, doesn't mention any policy topics, talks about character

2.) You mention that he doesn't talk about policies, and insinuate that it's because Obama doesn't have any policies (your 'No policies, hmmm this seems to be a theme' comment)

3.) I point out that Obama does indeed have policies and that while an important topic on its own, that's not the only thing which matters. In this case Hanks mentions the other stuff (charisma, intelligence, etc) which represent the ability to get policies implimented (ever met someone with lots of great ideas but clueless as to how to get them done?). I might have been a little harsh in how I put it since I'm tired of people trying to smear Obama for no policies when they are clear as day.

4.) I think you kind of missed my point, and assume that since Hanks didn't bring them up in his video then he must not have any ideas/policies.

5.) ...

6.) Ice cream for everyone? Profit?

Spanky_McFarksalot 2008-05-04 12:41:42 PM
nazbot: 3.) I point out that Obama does indeed have policies

I never said he didn't. I said it's a theme that they're passed over.

Not sure why that's hard to follow.

4.) I think you kind of missed my point:

Seems to be a theme...

Leishu: Are you going to tell us why that matters

You're right, it doesn't. The actual policies of a candidates aren't the reason you should support them, it's that fact that they speak well in public and can make up for their ancestors being counted as 4/5th a person.

3/5ths, I do agree that that part of the statement was offtopic, Obama's skin color isn't relavent to his role as a politician, but I think it helped hanks appear more laid back and honest.

Speaking well in public is a major part of a president's credentials. It proves that they are at least of average intelligence. Also, speaking well is an important part of imparting the knowledge to the public. It also indicates the capacity; to argue, to reason, and to debate well. These 3 important skills and abilities are necessary for diplomacy, both at home and abroad.

Oh I've won plenty.

It's easy to tell because farkers will either stop debating the point and resort to childish name calling or just pop on and throw out a taunt without addressing any of the points.

Kinda like you just did.
