That's because Guam didn't violate the party's rules by holding an early primary. Easy enough to understand, no?

Also achair and vice chair elected there. The vice chair has endorsed Obama, the chair is going with the popular vote, which means he's Obama as well.

Net result is that Obama gains 4 delegates from Guam, and 2 more than Hillary. Not much, but as we're seeing, every little bit helps.

That's ok, the Republicans will be happy to have those 25 electoral votes in what must now be a gimme state for them in the real election.

Because they should have a say in who their head of state is? Besides, they'd be a net recipient anyway. What they would pay goes to maintaining the island as is.

"She's had the experience," she said. "She's got her husband to help her."

Z1P2: How the Fark do we even let Guam have deligates when they contribute no tax revenue?

The Nomination process is handled entirely by each party. The Democrats and Republicans (and I believe some of the third parties as well) each have a national committee that sets rules like which groups get to vote (States, DC, Territories, etc) and how many delegates come from each group.

Then the States also have their own Committees which set the rules for how that State will conduct the selection of their delegates. I'm assuming that other groups that vote: DC, the Territories, American's Abroad, also have committees to sort this out, I'm not 100% sure.

In short: they get to vote because the National Committees said they do.

Z1P2: That's ok, the Republicans will be happy to have those 25 electoral votes in what must now be a gimme state for them in the real election.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. All these McCain vs Hillary and/or Obama polls are interesting, but the phrase `if the election were held today' is about the most useless one there is. It's already been one hell of a fascinating election cycle though, who the hell knows what could happen. Also, I beleive there are 27 electoral votes at stake in Florida.

Well since they don't get to vote in the general, Clinton's usual "they won't go for a democrat in the real election anyways" will play a bit closer to reality, though it will remain just as irrelevent. I also suspect 8 mysterious deaths in Guam tomorow.

How does it not? Obama has more delegates, more states, and more popular votes. Anything that is not a total blowout for Clinton helps Obama seal the nomination.

Bestbank Tiger 2008-05-03 10:09:20 PM
Obama only won by seven votes. That's not a big enough margin so it's really a defeat. Especially since it was a caucus, where he should have won by a landslide. Clearly he needs to drop out for the good of the party.

Z1P2: How the Fark do we even let Guam have deligates when they contribute no tax revenue?

Because it's the law (that thing that some politicians believe they are above)...

From the Dept. of the Interior site--

Currently, Guam is an unincorporated, organized territory of the United States. It is "unincorporated" because not all provisions of the U.S. Constitution apply to the territory. Guam is an "organized" territory because the Congress provided the territory with an Organic Act in 1950 which organized the government much as a constitution would. The Guam Organic Act currently provides a republican form of government with locally-elected executive and legislative branches and an appointed judicial branch. Guam also has an elected representative to Congress -- The Honorable Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D).

Unless he has an epic fail moment, the `pledged' delegate lead is going to be his no matter what happens. Unless the thing that should not be can convince enough superdelegates to jump ship, he's going to get the nomination. It's all basically in the hands of Democratic party operatives at this point, god help us all.

2 is nearly 1/4 of what she gained on him from the Pennsylvania primaries. One of the reasons these small contests matter is because Clinton's margins of victory in the "big states" don't amount to much in terms of delegates, and so Obama has been able to overtake her with the smaller contests.

Howard Dean was on some damn show saying they would sit Michigan and Florida at convention. They will be subject to some qualifications but the Dems will not be going as far as to not count the votes of two states.(No Duh Dr Dean)

Heck they'll probably dream up some tye of punishment like a sitting fee in the way of a fine payable to the party or better yet making them sit quietly in a corner all by themselves until they learn to play nice with the other states.
