Brian Eno produced it? Maybe he can do for them what he did for U2.

Never understood the popularity of this band. Many of my friends, with whom I share a lot of musical interest, love them. I don't think they're awful or anything, just very, very "...meh..."

I remember thinking "Parachutes" was decent, and I still love "A Rush of Blood to the Head".

"X&Y" was just pretentious and way too much of the same.

/did not hear Violet Hill

if it is anything but suck, I'll give full credit to Eno, not Coldplay.

/U2 was at least decent before Eno.

U2 was de-balled by eno and co.
too bad cuz i loved eno and i loved U2

coldplay on the other hand never had any balls
so i'm not sure what's going to happen.

i have liked some of their songs, but the airplay kills it.

Uhm, I just watched Coldplay on a Later with Jools Holland rerun, and they definitely HAD SOME BALLS. Why do so many people on here hate this band? They have some really beautiful songs, and not all of it is totally mellow.

It could be because there are a lot of meatheads on here? Shiat, I don't understand it.

quierosteak 2008-05-03 10:05:41 PM
well the funny thing is, its not a terrible song, even though chris martin's voice is too whiny to sing it, but brian eno could have done so much better in producing it.

because they're Radiohead for people who think Radiohead is too weird.

fark you, Coldplay. I can no longer listen to The Bends without thinking I'm listening to a Coldplay album. (Albeit, a Coldplay with better songwriting.)

a free 7-inch single in the new copy of NME?? sweet!!!!

/ liked "parachutes" a lot
// didn't care much for "rush of blood..." ... too boring... didn't interest me that much
/// some good songs on "x & y" but it's too long, and the lyrics aren't the greatest.... [the good songs to me are: "Square One", "Talk", "Speed of Sound" and "the hardest part".]
//// interested to hear this new album/record

I still have "Rush of blood..." in my car CD changer. DOn't listen to it much, but sometimes, when the mood strikes, it is very nice.

/doesn't understand the hatin' on Coldplay.

I hate coldplay because they aren't great, aren't hilariously terrible, they're medicore, lukewarm, radioheadlite - accessible goodness, and horrid lyrics

OK, firstly, I don't think Radiohead is too weird. In fact, my favorite Radiohead song is "Myxomatosis." Secondly, it just pisses me off how people attack Chris for singing in falsetto, when Thom does it more than he does.

I like both bands.

I don't hear the mediocrity. I just hear some really beautiful sounds. I know they have that "sunrise" quality to their music, but I dig it.

danduran 2008-05-04 03:06:32 AM
Rush of Blood I think is a masterpiece - it's not meant to be Radiohead, why do Farkers bother comparing the two? I didn't care too much for X&Y - there were some great songs in there, but the production was flat and muddled. Rush of Blood has a bit of rawness, something otherworldy about it.

On a rainy day, lay back on the couch and chuck it on - give it a chance. It's pretty damn nice, particularly some of the lesser-known songs towards the end like Green Eyes.

Violet Hill = Coldplay by the numbers, even Chris Martin sounds bored.

/Prediction: On the album, this song will be preceded by and followed by faster songs, as seems to be the formula for Coldplay (fast, upbeat song; slow, sad, plodding 4/4 song next, etc)
//not gay, NTTAWWT, do like some of their songs
///not this one, tho.

DreamBrother 2008-05-04 04:25:54 PM
Hate all you want, but Parachutes is and will always be one of the best all-around albums of this decade.

Listening to Rush of Blood is like banging a cheap knock off look-alike of the best woman you've ever had. Sort of the same but ultimately unsatisfying compared to the source material.

CoochDog 2008-05-04 05:04:54 PM
My first thought upon hearing "Violet Hill" was that it really doesn't sound like Coldplay... at least not until the piano solo at the end. It's catchy, but I don't see it holding up all that well.

/not gay

I like coldplay. I like radiohead more, though. (all of the albums.)

The new coldplay single is alright. Not amazing, not horrible. Certainly different from their past material. But it just didn't grab me. I much prefer listening to in rainbows disc two.

/I will still buy the new album when it comes out
//fav radiohead song is... too many. At present I will go with "You and Whose Army?"
///fav coldplay song is "see you soon"
////Polyethylene, Fog (again), and Maquiladora are also in freq radiohead rotation.

I have a theory... Coldplay really only has 3 songs, which they keep rewriting over and over with different titles.
