did you see him interview howard dean? he wasn't throwing his punches. he really laid into him about the whole superdelegates, "electability", florida and michigan, and giving john mccain a free ride thing.

he kept it funny and civil, but he certainly gave the democratic party a real earful of constructive criticism.

/the audience really cheered when he said they should just use the will of the voters to choose the candidate

You too? I thought it was just me. I'd even considered making a habit of it with my own submissions, to test the theory, but you know, I got a rep to protect, mang.

I don't know, last night was a fierce competitor.

Okay, so just how many epicepic, and I'm just not all that sure that all of them qualify.

How about referring to some as "anecdotal fails"? Just a suggestion.

What are you talking about? He would never do such a thing? Jon Stewart is an uber-liberal pundit/hack who only criticizes the right and gives democrats a free ride!

Seriously, anyone with a name like rush_limbaugh_sent_me is not going to be willing or capable of having any sort of reasoned discourse, so why bother even acknowledging its existence?

rush_limbaugh_sent_me: The Daily Show is comedy for people that blog on the Daily Worker and Daily Kos.

John Stewart reads jokes written by other people with the best of them. He's one of the funniest joke readers of all time. :)

Everyone already knows where they stand on the 'issues'.*

What's more important is what we don't know about character.

Character defines the President more than some empty promises, no matter how detailed those promises might be.

I've asked before but never really got a satisfying answer, so WTF, I'll try again:

What's with using "Democrat" as an adjective? What's the purpose of intentionally using improper grammar? ...I don't just mean on FARK or the internets in general, but actual spokespersons for the GOP and right or right-leaning institutions do this.

Why? For what reason? To what end? WHY??

There's documentary evidence that the practice started as a Republican talking point tactic, but I honestly think it became so widespread that some people started doing it without meaning anything by it.

ooh, fun!

let's see what we can do...

McCain seems to be of good character, as his associations with racist hatemonger conspiracy theorists like Hagee and Parsley and possible terrorist supporters like Ali Jawad (new window) proves without question.

Ron Paul Revere: rush_limbaugh_sent_me: Have you ever heard of the Greek island of Lesbos? There is a Greek island called Lesbos for those of you who didn't know. "A Greek court has been asked to draw the line between the natives of the Aegean Sea island of Lesbos and the world's gay women. Three islanders from Lesbos -- home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women -- have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word lesbian in its name. One of the plaintiffs said Wednesday that the name of the association, Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, 'insults the identity' of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians. 'My sister can't say she is a Lesbian,' said Dimitris Lambrou. 'Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos,' he said." So an argument here over terminology taking place in Greece.

Yeah, I submitted that with this headline and got a redlight:

Citizens of the island of Lesbos take issue with the word lesbian, file lawsuit. Mr. Garrison unavailable for comment, totally available for scissoring

I though that episode on the whole was pretty so-so, but Mr(s). Garrison shouting out "SCISSOR ME TIMBERS!" was one of the funniest lines of that entire series.

It's a show of disrespect. I generally find it a useful shortcut that indicates someone doesn't have an opinion worth reading or listening to.

Churchill2004: There's documentary evidence that the practice started as a Republican talking point tactic

Yeah, I just googled the term and its usage, and it has a very long history, indeed.

What baffles me is how this is supposed to make Democrats look bad and/or Republicans good, when it's Republicans mangling the language.

One degree more baffling: Democrats who try to turn the tables and refer to members of the GOP as "Republics" or "Republicons."

I guess it's Silly Season...deja vu all over again.

I don't know that you can easily make the case that Jon is supporting either candidate over the other. His Dean interview made pretty clear that he thought disenfranchising Florida and Michigan was a terrible mistake, the thing is if those states counted Hillary would be the nominee. Could it be he just places intellectual honesty over support for a candidate?

patrick767 [TotalFark] 2008-05-02 10:28:12 PM
The superdelegates are utter bullshiat and most people know it. Good for Stewart for going after Dean on that shiat. It's sad when the GOP can claim to be more democratic in their primary process than the Democratic party.

As for TFA... awesome. The giant tub of ice cream almost made me fall out of my chair.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-05-02 10:28:27 PM
Shaggy_C: RepugliKKKan

Yeah...that's some silly shiat. Most of this shiat ("Rethuglicans" or "Demoncraps") stays in the wacky world of the internets, but actual GOP officials say "Democrat Party" on national teevee.

And I know those guys are smarter than that, so I am confused as to what effect this is supposed to have. Educated people hear it as improper and uneducated people (who use "him and me" as subjects) probably don't even recognize the improper usage.

I guess in just some kind of in-joke circle-jerk or something.

patrick767 [TotalFark] 2008-05-02 10:29:19 PM
Newbaca: disenfranchising Florida and Michigan was a terrible mistake, the thing is if those states counted Hillary would be the nominee.

Not true. It would just be a closer race. And remember that Obama would have actually been on the ballot in Michigan if it was expected to count.

Shaggy_C 2008-05-02 10:31:05 PM
Lionel Mandrake: And I know those guys are smarter than that, so I am confused as to what effect this is supposed to have. Educated people hear it as improper and uneducated people (who use "him and me" as subjects) probably don't even recognize the improper usage.

It's supposed to be an insult, created by the founding fathers:

"... the term "democrat" originated as an epithet and referred to 'one who panders to the crude and mindless whims of the masses.'"

Or so Neal Boortz says.

God's Hubris 2008-05-02 10:33:10 PM

The very definition of the Republican Party. Their base are those most easily fooled. The morons of America.

It's a COMEDY show. Don't take it seriously. He just likes making people look like morans for their idiocy. He probably votes Constitution Party or something.

That carries about as much weight what "Manny - the guy who is always screaming about chickens down at the local Piggly Wiggly" says.

/that was based on a real guy
//he was named "Steve" and the actual location was an AM/PM
///"Manny" and "Piggly Wiggly" are just funnier.

rush_limbaugh_sent_me: What's wrong with using Democrat as an adjective?

It's fine to call someone a 'Democrat Senator'. However, saying "Democrat Party" is improper English, as it is a proper name. It would be like me calling you Rush_Limpballs_Sent_Me

rush_limbaugh_sent_me: It is possible that Stewart's writers are just pandering to younger people who tend to vote Democrat by just writing liberal jokes for Stewart to read.

Nah, then why is he taking on the 'liberal media'? He's just as likely to mock 'Typical white people' comments as he is 'Vote for me or you're all gonna DIE!"
