Well, at first, I thought Hillary should get out in front of this story right away. Now I think Obama has to get out in front of this story ASAP. If he is the Weeners on this, and says something like "This clip does indeed appear doctored, and the director agreed. If the person that doctored this and posted it online is one of my supporters, I am openly condemning that person and asking to withhold his vote. I don't need that kind of support."

A statement like this would totally be awesome. It would show he is trying to be above dirty politics. At the same time, some people will just view the clip online when they get it e-mailed to them, and he benefits from those people, too.

He makes a good point that the film has been viewed by thousands of people over the years, and it's just now that people noticed what was "said".

Nasty business.

lol

Yes the clip is obviously fake and I hope the media don't give it anymore attention.

That's SEXIST!

/but, filters aside, you're correct. short, simple statement should be released before I post this.

So, tinfoil time:

Was it a 'overzealous' Obama staffer?

Or was it a Hillary Rovian (They bugged my office!) head fake?

Or was it a GOP operative just hoping for splash damage?

So a triple Rovian head fake? Obama leaked it to show that Clinton leaked it to make it look like Obama leaked it but he used it to stay above the fray????

Silly_Sot 2008-05-02 02:01:10 PM
Just what on earth is an "Indianan"? Lemme guess, subbie is a Carmel resident or other benighted poseur.

"Pardon me, but we Indianans must go play the Graaaaahnd Piaaaahno whilst holding up our pinkies."

The correct word is "Hoosier", has been for more than a century. If you can't handle the term, you're too much of a sissy to stay.

Yep, it will be totally awesome right up to the point everyone in the press starts pointing out how weak Obama is for not using this to his advantage.

This. There's no way a campaign would try something this amateurish, especially when anybody can just go rent the video or watch it on YouTube to fact-check it.

I prefer the term "people who haven't yet figured out that it's perfectly legal for them to move out of Indiana."

One more step back.

ROVE leaked it to show that Obama leaked it to show that Clinton leaked it to make it look like Obama leaked it but he used it to stay above the fray so that the Democrats would fall all over themselves with finger pointing and discord.

Or, alternatively, everybody could just farking ignore it because it was obviously made by some knucklehead who is irrelevant to everybody, and spending one more minute discussing it makes us all dumber for having done so.

The Politico has a good write up on this. Apparently people heard the "shiat" comment when the movie first came out. The person who "edited" the subtitled video claimed to enhance the audio, but not doctor it. A 3rd party source took the original audio from the movie and enhanced it to see if the "n*ggers" comment was true. Says it MAY be possible he said that, but certainly not conclusive, as you just cant determine what was said.

Conclusion: not a whole lot to go on here...time to move along.

You greatly over-estimate the depth of knowledge that informs a voter's opinion.

Israel? Iran? Somalia? Who cares.

Wow. What a mess. If there was any doubt that Drudge has it out for Hillary, you only need to follow his shifting headlines, going from the "Flashback: Clinton staffer says n*****" to "Clinton staffer says Sh*t"

The video was amateurish, and thankfully not the type of stuff Obama would put out. The real question is who, Politico.com spoke with the creator who only claimed to have "enhanced" the sound, but they refused to reveal who the person was.

The Obama's don't have children because Michelle's uterus is the size of a circus peanut. Unlike her mouth.

McStinky 2008-05-02 02:28:48 PM
Apparantly, per ABC news, there were outcries back when the movie originally came out regarding the 'shiat' comment. Others, even then, interpreted it as a slur against the people of Indiana.

OR he could ignore it because:

A. He is not responsible
B. The person who did or did not make the remark is not the one running for President.

Well, whatever he said, it's definitely not doctored. It just has the volume turned up. Whether he actually says "worthless white n*gger" or something similar is up for interpretation.

Doesn't seem to be a fake, though.

Quick questions:

1. If his comment was so innocent, why did he lower his voice to be near inaudible?

2. I he's asking George if he'd like to be in the White House, why did he shake his head 'no'?

If he was making a negative remark about Bush white house, why was George's reaction to shake his head then put his hand over his face? What, he felt sorry for George Bush and was expressing sympathy?

So I'm listening to POTUS08. Yestaerday, during a speech Hillary says she wants to form a partnership between states and the federal gov't for the purpose of making FMLA leave paid. Today, I hear Obama saying precisely the same thing!

This is the shiat you people are falling for.

Because he didn't want to seem overconfident on camera?

2. I he's asking George if he'd like to be in the White House, why did he shake his head 'no'?

George shaking his head as if to say "We haven't won this thing yet, don't get too excited"?

Yeah, that really seems like the logical response. Especially after he and Carville were jumping for joy at the numbers.

To me it seems more logical to suggest that George just heard something horribly offensive being said ON CAMERA and was trying very hard to distance himself from it.

I don't know why he whispered. Could be many reasons. But there is a big difference between whoopty-whooing over positive results thus far, and declaring victory before it happens.
