Sorry, just my opinion. TPC's album rocked. I also find Perry's voice annoying.

the one song I heard by TPC was pretty awful, not to mention the vocalists somehow out-did Perry's voice in terms of annoyingness.

Don't judge TPC's CD by Why Cry (I'm assuming that is the song you heard, as it was the only single the label released). The rest of the CD is much stronger. Teahouse of the Spirits, Night One and Left To Lose are muuuuuuuuch better.

One man's Janes Addiction is another man's Red Hot Chili Peppers.

They need to figure out who is in each band and keep them separate.

once you rid ritual of stop and stealing, it's one of the best albums ever. 3 days.

Three days is my favorite Jane's song. Phenomenal.

Stop is a great track. One of the best opening tracks ever.

Been Caught Stealing on the other hand, while not bad, reminds me way too much of their worst track: Standing in the Shower Thinking.

no accounting for taste, i guess. i love "standing in the shower thinking". totally high energy rock groove and perry's saying something thoughtful over the top. if i had to pick my least favorite track it'd have to be "my time" from the first disc.

of the two studio releases i gotta say that "pigs in zen" gets skipped by me the most often.

Jane's Addiction was cool when I was the only person who knew about them.

/yea

well, truth be told, I rarely ever listen to the first album, so I'll give "Standing..." the benefit of the doubt and assume something from the first album is worse. Still the worst on Nothing's Shocking, though. :P

But I think we can both agree that Trip Away and Whores, off the first disc, are farking great.

Strays is off somewhere crying...

...possibly in the Used CD bins.

I discovered Ritual in two stages, as if each side were its own album. I bought it in the summer between 8th grade and high school. I hadn't developed a broad sense of musical appreciation yet, and I was more drawn to the familiarity of the radio singles on the first side. That, and the concise verse/chorus/verse, guitar/bass/drums nature of the songs on the first side were more closely aligned with what I expected of music at that age. I took a cursory listen to side two once or twice. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really take to it either. Rather than flip it over, I'd more likely just play the first side again if I still wanted to hear Jane's.

It was about two years later that I really got into the second side. I embraced it for all the things that probably first pushed me away: it was dynamic, sprawling, weird, wavering between tranquility and fury. Good stuff. Substances may have helped.

Anybody else have a similar experience with this album?

eh, I've always thought that album worked as two separate EPs. First half more rocking/singles-oriented, while the 2nd was all the extended, psychedelic tracks.

absolutely. "i would" also has a special place in my heart.

yeah. as far as i'm concerned, jane's' (how the fark does one make that possessive?) output equals a live disc, "nothing," "ritual" and the posthumous "kettle whistle."

i caught them on the relapse tour when flea stood in for eric and it *totally* rocked, so i'm not capping on the reunion vibe. it's just that "strays" was clearly not cut from the same cloth that made those other albums so special.

smack's the bestworst thing that ever happened to that band.

There are several reasons why I dislike this band. I'll name just a few here now.

1. They take scummy, sexist, and skeevy to new levels.
2. The guy needs about 4 effects processors just to sound even remotely interesting; too much reverb and delay.
3. Some of their fans refuse to bathe.

Senors y senoras: I HATE JANE SAYS. That song ruined the band.
