(Think Progress) Amusing White House spokeswoman Dana Perino gets hit with a hard question, and gets nasty, sarcastic, nastier, stutters, stymies, lies through her teeth, then storms off stage saying "What the hell." right at the end of the clip   (thinkprogress.org) divider line 114

I don't care either way about her politics or who her boss is...

I would hold her close to me while she sobs to me about the mean press corps and their tricky questions, then I'd wrap her in a soft robe, make her some hot tea, and rub her feet while she relaxes to some soft jazz. Then afterward, we'd bathe together then make sweet lingering love on satin sheets under the stars....

Uh,

Neat.

She's no Ari Fleischer, that's for damn sure. He was a master--nobody could blatantly lie as smoothly and convincingly as that guy. If he had never left the White House, Dubya's popularity rating would probably be at least 10 points higher right now.

Or ten points lower - because we might still be hearing about Gannon/Guckert, and just who exactly was he slipping into the White House late at night to, uh, slip into?

Ari made it look fun but I don't think he was the best. For my money, Scott McClellan was incredibly underrated and I think ultimately he was better. People actually believed his act whereas with Ari they believed some of his lies but ultimately knew what a conniving shiatbag he was. With McClellan, everyone almost felt bad for him but he was in control the entire time.

I would do that job for sport even though I'm liberal as hell. It does look kind of fun

I like to think of Dana Perino as a courtesy detail provided by our current clip-joint of an administration. She's the pretty smile you're watching up front while they run up your credit card in the back.

At this point, the credit card has already been hit - I figure I might as well enjoy the smile...

When he finally got around to the question she answered it.

No, she said that she doesn't think it's inappropriate to provide information. In other words, she used the common lying-politician tactic of answering a question that wasn't asked and moving on.

Surely Ms. Perino can think of some inappropriate methods by which the government can share information with the population, so her general statement cannot reasonably be construed to be universal. She was just spouting off about nonsense, and the politicians asking the questions just fail to call her on it.

That's what pisses me off about the media's handling of these people... it's not that her answer was some brilliant dodge that felled us all. It's just that nobody cares enough to call them on the bullshiat, so the people in charge feel perfectly comfortable spouting meaningless rhetorical nonsense while the press corps gazes on rapturously as always.

or, the press who are there asking questions are there because it's there job, and if they get on the wrong side of this uberbiatch they may have their press credentials revoked, this losing their job (in theory)

make one sad that someone isn't standing up for the 1st Amendment more, but then again it's a tough market out there and can't really blame them for not wanting to fark up their job

QUESTION: Others said that if they departed from the Pentagon's talking points their access was cut off.

PERINO:But I would say that one of the things that we try to do in the administration is get information out to a variety of people so that everybody else can call them and ask their opinion about something. And I don't think that that should be against the law. And I think that it's absolutely appropriate to provide information to people who are seeking it and are going to be providing their opinions on it.

Knowing that Dana Perino lady I'd have been highly skeptical if she came off stammering in any way.

She was a little flustered but she handled it like I'd expect. Sorry I'd mock if I could but I can't, though her argument was clearly full of holes. Anyway, she's way hot.

LocalCynic 2008-05-01 09:26:26 PM
There's actually a bit of a back story to this.

The reporter is affiliated with a liberal blog, and had at previous briefings asked Perino some hardballs. As a result, she has basically been ignoring him for weeks.

Today, a reporter from -- get this -- WorldNetDaily -- was called on, and told Perino to let the liberal guy ask his question, since she was obviously ignoring him.

tomhath: Article was not what I expected from the headline. Basically she told the reporter to quit lecturing and ask a question. When he finally got around to the question she answered it. Non-story.

She didn't answer the question at all. The question was, "Did the White House know of this program?"

The answer was, "Look, I didn't know - look, I think that you guys should take a step back and look at this - look, DOD's made a decision: They've decided to stop this program."

She implies later that the White House knew, in that she defends the program as part of a larger effort "to provide information to people who are seeking it," but she never actually answers the question.

Not that the Press Secretary not answering a question is necessarily Fark-worthy, but she is pretty hot.

That's part of the problem, too. No attention span... one news cycle and it's like the slate is wiped clean, everyone back to square one. When next Perino finds herself standing in front of them, do you think they'll press the issue?

Do we have any farking idea who was mailing farking anthrax around to people a few years back? How about Bin Laden, when was the last time you heard a serious question to those in power about him?
