I proudly present: Dubya's enduring legacy. To put that number in another perspective, 97.6% of the UMC Conference rejected the idea. That's impressive.

Even more impressive: 97.6% support the separation of church and state.

Petition text:
SMU Bush Presidential Library Rejection (80089-MH-NonDis)

SUBMITTED TEXT

I hereby petition the UMC General Conference to prevent leasing, selling, or otherwise participating in or supporting the presidential library for George W. Bush at Southern Methodist University.

RATIONALE

We should support separation of church and state and if the Bush library goes on the SMU campus or property it will appear to the country and the world as an endorsement of that president by the United Methodist Church. Texas is a big state; surely there are other venues...

daychilde [TotalFark] 2008-05-01 06:34:14 PM
WAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

Score one for Texas!

Keep that fake Texan OUT OF MY TEXAS.

thatvoiceguy 2008-05-01 06:36:56 PM
I'm impressed. SMU once had a student body president who had Marian Wright Edelman (founder of the Children's Defense Fund) axed from a speaking engagement there, hoping to bring Rush Limbaugh in her place.

See? They didn't vote not to host the library. They voted to table the issue for the moment and discuss it again in July.

Link (pops)

Also, SMU didn't vote anything. SMU's leadership is all in favor of having that white elephant here. But the property belongs to the Methodist Church, and they have the final say. The board of bishops has already approved it, and it seems likely that the library deal will in fact go through.

keylock71 2008-05-01 07:15:15 PM
There's got to be a bunch of community colleges in Texas that can spare are few shelves for some coloring and pop-up books...

I'm glad Bush is getting dissed. Not just because I can't stand the man but mostly because..

SMU is just up the road from where I live. That SOB would be in town all the time screwing up my traffic flow. He needs to go mess up somebody else's daily commute.

Swee' Baby Jebus.

Bush as Tony Montana is LOLworthy!

On Topic?

Actually, Quatchi would be quite interested in seeing the "Jorge Dumbya Bush Pezidential Lieberry of Fine Lurnin'" one day.

A larger collection of porn in the form of pop-up books has apparently never before been assembled on this good earth. EVAR!

Also Quatchi's heard some good things about "My Pet Goat"

/If you've already read it don't provide any spoilers.
//Be kind.

HAHAhahahahhahahahahahaha

844-20 is the vote equivalent of "I wouldn't touch that with a fifty foot pole"

I didn't realize libraries could make you dumber

bobfreck 2008-05-01 07:30:17 PM
I think it should only be at a college or university Bush could actually be admitted to.

Sam Houston State at Huntsville comes to mind. The state prisoners could take turns as curators and librarians.

That's right! Kick that asshole out of Dallas!

He'd have to stack his papers,
since he deleted all his emails.
and destroyed the hard drives.
then set them on fire
and spit on the pile of smoldering rubble.
. . . then ate a baby.

No he hasn't. Accomplish has a connotation of positive influence. He hasn't accomplished shiat. He has 'affected' more than any of us, but that's not saying much.
