(Guardian.com) Unlikely Obama's pastor just can't keep his yap shut. According to Spike Lee, who also doesn't know when to shut up, it's probably a conspiracy: "It looks like he's being paid to keep talking"   (film.guardian.co.uk) divider line 95

Old news. I come up with this yesterday. I'm taking the credit.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: I'm taking the credit.

c'mon, it was obvious from the start. he's a rove plant, as are we all.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-05-01 10:42:20 AM
Ego, jealousy, and resentment are what's fueling this guy.

Why pay him when he's more than happy to blow off his mouth for free?

He's burned up more than his 15 minute allotment.

What's this guys motivation or is he just an attention whore?

Skail [TotalFark] 2008-05-01 11:36:50 AM
Not paid, but he's being given a free national media outlet, and by god he's using it for all it's worth. The media is feeding it because they want a Hillary versus McCain ticket. I wouldn't doubt that it's because it would make for far more drama and they could feed back into their "hey right wing! We're not liberal! See, we hate Hillary too!" schtick that they had going during the Bill Clinton years. Obama, on the other hand, is pretty likable as a person and that sort of thing wouldn't fly.

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2008-05-01 11:46:00 AM
He is getting paid... this media blitz is the run up to the release of his book. If he can keep the media looking at him he might be able to get on the best seller list when his book hits the shelves.

You know, the Reverend Wright who actually says things is no where as near as much of the asshole as the Reverend Wright who seems to be referred to in the news.

It is rather strange. If the guy is a friend and a supporter of Obama you'd think he would realize he's doing more harm than good. Especially when everybody is telling him exactly that.

Spike might possibly be right about a conspiracy, but it would be a damn shame for a friend of 20 years to sabotage the campaign for a few bucks.

Geez, Weenersor Jemimah White and NOW Spike Jones?
Way to alienate the undecideds, Dems.
It wasn't bad enough to let a racist priest RUN your campaign, but now you've got some guy from Jackass claiming Karl Rove put him up to it?
Somebody get a tourniquet.
This is BAD news for the libs.

he's being "paid" with national attention for his church, regardless of the fake outrage from hillary and the republican apologists, there are alot of people that probably agree 100% with the guy and will probably send him money.

What the hell, did Spike Lee just call up some people and be like "I'm a semi-famous black person, print my thoughts on this shiznit, yo"?

Is Jeff Foxworthy gonna weigh in on that Hagee guy next?

Fark Lord of the Sith 2008-05-01 02:41:36 PM
The payoff is that he keeps his meal ticket. If Obama loses the nom or even the general election, Wright, Sharpton, Jackson and the like get to keep their hold on power by continuing to play the politics of victimization. If a black man becomes prez, the argument that The Man is holding us all down loses a most of its credibility and these guys will have to get real jobs.

That's because back then he wasn't being unreasonable. Compared to the inflamatory white pastors right-wingers pander to, he's still not being unreasonable. But the crap he's said lately has been far more obnoxious and divisive than the things he said that started this whole thing.

I doubt the media actually thought that far in advance. From what I've seen, most major news outlets scramble to fill the 24/7 news cycle so they run from story to story. I doubt they think further than the next broadcast/issue deadlines.

Regardless of why Wright is refusing to relinquish the spotlight the fact is that it had never left him. Frankly the loopier he looks the better for Obama now. He seems more and more like that nutty uncle who you love but who tends to make unsuitable toasts after a few glasses of champaign at your sister's wedding.

The more he appears as a clown the less of a liability he is for Obama.

Remove all Republicans

Well, Spike Lee's an idiot. Evidently he hasn't figured out that Obama - if elected - will be stuck with Bush's war. The bombing and firefights will grind on from Somalia to Iraq to Afghanistan, Muslims will continue to be killed, and if the rest of the world somehow has a better view of America just because Obama is president, then they're all superficial morons. Although I'm guessing the rest of the world consists largely of superficial, TeeVee-watching morons, just like here, and putting a happy face on the imperial war might just unaccountably mollify them.

Evidently he hasn't figured out that Obama - if elected - will be stuck with Bush's war.

Obama, if elected, will also have a world to feed after telling America to grow Ethanol.

Obama's Energy Plan will cause famine in sub-Saharan Africa. Ironic. Maybe he'll only kill half the blacks in Africa seeing as Obama is only half-black. NAAAAH! He'll kill them all.

Obama's largest contributor? African flies.

Bloody William 2008-05-01 03:10:12 PM
danlpoon: Obama's Energy Plan will cause famine in sub-Saharan Africa. Ironic. Maybe he'll only kill half the blacks in Africa seeing as Obama is only half-black. NAAAAH! He'll kill them all.

Wow, Obama's going to cause famine in sub-Saharan Africa? Maybe he'll also cause political strife in the Middle East, economic uncertainty in Eastern Europe, oppressive banana republics in South America. You know, because all of these things have already been happening for years and years.

The Ethanol plan isn't the greatest, although that's less Obama's fault than the fact that our entire agricultural industry is in the death-grip of corn agri-business. Still, it's a bit crazy to say that WE are responsible for famine in Africa.
