The Clintons campaigned and raised money for her late husband, representative Walter Capps. When Capps died of a heart attack during his first term in 1997, Bill Clinton delivered the eulogy at his congressional memorial service. When Lois Capps ran to succeed her husband, the Clintons raised money for her as well. Laura Capps, their daughter, was a speechwriter in the Clinton White House

This doesn't even count Joe Andrew, hand picked by Bill Clinton to lead the DNC in 1999, and who endorsed Hillary they day she announced her candidacy for President.

He is switching his endorsement today.

The Endgame has begun.

I hope these new SD endorsements will encourage other fence sitters to go public with their support.

It's going to take a couple more big names to knock That Woman off her pedestal, but I think I hear footsteps...

Good thing Obama didn't rescue wounded members of his unit from the mountains of Kandahar. That's an instant red light, apparently.

I still think that this is how it will go down.

May 3: Guam. Delegates split 2-2
May 6: Either Obama Sweeps Indiana and North Carolina, or they Split.
May 7-12: 25-40 SuperDelegates endorse Obama
May 13: Clinton Wins West Virginia.
May 14-19: 10-20 SuperDelegates endorse Obama
May 20: Clinton Wins Kentucky, Obama wins Oregon
May 21-31: 20-40 Super Delegates Endorse Obama
June 1: Clinton Wins Puetro Rico, Obama is within 10-15 Delegates of the Nomination.
June 3: Obama wins Montana and South Dakota, and those pledged delegates seal him the Nomination.

This mean "the people" have chosen, with a little help from the Supers. This way, the Superdelegates did not make the final decision technically, and it was primary votes that won him the nod.

The remaining SD's endorse him in mass shortly thereafter.

stargazer101 2008-05-01 09:50:10 AM
So what do you guys think now - will the Hillster drop out on June 4th, or crawl determinedly to the convention in August to try and pull some shenanigans?

Yeah, that's probably what happens. At this point, the supers CAN'T end it gracefully, because she'll be biatching about how "Guam and Kentucky need to have a say!!1@", regardless of the fact that most of the states NEVER get a say in the primary process.

It's ALWAYS been OK, for Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to chose our leaders for us, but now we have to wait till Guam votes??

what_now: It's ALWAYS been OK, for Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to chose our leaders for us, but now we have to wait till Guam votes??

think about it this way though...

obama will be able to go into the general election and tout how the democratic party elected a nominee with the input of the entire united states, and paint mccain as having somehow disenfranchised half the country from the process.

with how rocky mccain's standing is with his base, i'd say it would probably hurt him a little to have that pointed out. just think of all the "yeah! what about ron paul!" or "we liked mitt romney more!" calls that could result.

Democrats Abroad get 11 delegates, but they're sending 22. so 22 delegates / 11 votes = 0.5 votes per delegate

He picked up new super delegates. That's news, especially in the Politics tab. You could, you know, not open the thread if it annoys you.

guilt by association 2008-05-01 10:44:30 AM
I think the reason superdelegates have been trickling for Obama rather than coming out en masse is because Obama's streak ended in early March and because the party doesn't want to tick-off Hillary's stubborn base any more than they are now. If he takes NC and IN by 5+ point margins, then I think the trickling will turn into flood gates.

How exactly can one vote for McCain if they're Hillary supporters? Aren't they polar opposites policy-wise? Oh right, it's not about policy, my mistake

no, talking heads on the news networks say this. then they find people who will say it on tv.

Democrats Abroad, or one of the other tiny groups that has never ever mattered in a primary until now, has some weird rules such that their delegates only have 1/2 of a vote at the convention.

They are a big fan of one policy that they both share, namely "not being a negro."

Well, I've said I won't vote for Hillary if she's the nominee for about a year. But I also won't vote for McCain. These people probably feel the same way, but they're trying to make it SEEM like the party needs Hillary.

They're bitter and angry, because their candidate didn't win, but they aren't voting for a Republican- or at least one who isn't Hillary.

Look, by the beginning of June, this will be over, and when Bill Clinton introduces Obama on stage in August, everything will be fine.
