Shakin' Stevens.

How retro.

some pretty big acts, but otherwise pretty damn boring.

If I lived in NY, I'd go see this year's ATP festival, though.

hot chip isn't that good, but I LOVE their song "and I was a boy from school".

watch the youtube vid for it. I'd link it, but posting from treo. the video is pretty cool

I quite like Band of Horses (pops). I liked Kate Nash's album and Crowded House are an old favourite. I'm on the other side of the world, but if that lineup was in my town I'd go to it.

We Are Scientists.
Ben Folds.
The Raconteurs.

The only one's I'd wanna see, but definatly not worth the price of admission.

Have you seen them live? They've played Coachella the past two years and it's pretty awesome. For the tents they put them in I think they draw some of the biggest crowds for the space.

Yeah, subby. Who's this "Leonard Cohen" guy? Must be some obscure indie-rocker for people who like to listen to bands no one else has ever heard of, right?

Wow, I can hear Glastonbury sucking all the way from the frozen wastelands of Canuckland.

any Cohen fans who are also indie snobs like me should DEFINATELY download th Jeffrey Lewis song, "The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song"....its about Leonard Cohen.....but its kinda a sad song. its upbeat sounding, but the words are just really honest....youll def identify with it. its about social anxiety.

jeff lewis is one of my fav newly discovered singer-songwriters

Has the submitter been living under a rock for the past 45 years? The Gossip is one of the best-sounding bands ever (even if the people in the band seem a little 'tardesque). I love how they quoted that douchebag from Oasis, like anyone cares what his wannabe John Lennon (but without any talent whatsoever) ass thinks. Oasis sucks so bad it isn't even funny. Yes, Jay-Z is an untalented retard who looks like a shaved gorilla, but what gives you the right to talk, Noel? "Ooooh, look at us, we're Oasis and we suck relentlessly, but we keep selling records."

/"If You Shoot the Head You Kill the Ghoul!" is one of the best songs ever.

goofass: Yes, Jay-Z is an untalented retard who looks like a shaved gorilla, but what gives you the right to talk, Noel? "Ooooh, look at us, we're Oasis and we suck relentlessly, but we keep selling records."

I didn't think he was bringing talent into it (Unless the quote goes on elsewhere). He's just saying that UK festivals have had a long tradition of being band orientated, and that he doesn't feel Jay-Z fits his view of a festival act. Not saying he's right... just I didn't think Jay-z's talent was being questioned.

Does Jay-Z have a backing band when he's live or just a microphone and some backing tapes? (I honestly don't know and I'm not in a position to do me some YouTube investigatin').

The question is do big name Rappers make good festival headliners? Eminem & D12 headlines Reading one year, I decided to leave the arena after one song.

/doesn't like Oasis.
//Is going to Reading anyway.

I've heard of 10 of them.
But I'm not interested in going to see any of them.

I've heard of about 1/2 of these bands. And I would bathe Mark Ronson with my tongue.

/loves Oasis

DISCLAIMER: I'm old

That said, if you haven't heard of these bands then you REALLY need to get out of the basement and maybe changed the CDs in your player every once in a while.

I'll bet Jigga gets a band for his show, he apparently really enjoyed playing w/ phish at coney island. Lots of the time rappers get bands to back them up when they play on TV or big gigs ie Snoop on SNL during the Doggystyle era (g-funk era) or recently Juvenille got Galactic to back him on jimmy kimmell which was farkin sick.

FireGuts 2008-04-29 10:53:41 AM
Well I've definitely heard of all bands, yes even Groove Armada.

Gunny Highway 2008-04-29 11:04:11 AM
I apologize to anyone who enjoys their music but Hot Chip may be the worst shiat i have ever heard. Not only is their music hollow but they are breeding a group of hipsters the likes of which we have never seen. I can never understand why a band needs 6 guys when it is a synth and a vocalist. I am 22 and I see my peers falling victim to a scene (music, fashion, and attitude) that makes me want to utter my least favorite line in the history of the world "Get of my Lawn". Ugh i just got a little sick typing that.

Manu Chao, sweet.

i hate Jay-Z as much as anyone, but don't call him a shaved gorilla. that's borderline.

Ramone_Frunkis 2008-04-29 12:00:17 PM
pretty sweet lineup.

AuralArgument 2008-04-29 12:06:17 PM
Wow i've seen the entire lineup over my lifetime.

Subby fails at music obviously.

I_Love_Cheesecake 2008-04-29 12:14:37 PM
That's a good line-up, actually. I would definitely pay, since Hot Chip, Goldfrapp, Band of Horses, Kings of Leon and The Raconteurs will be there.

The Hoodoo Gurus are still around? Man, I saw them in Ann Arbour back in '86. Like wow, wipe-out.

Lumber Jack Off 2008-04-29 12:39:13 PM
i've heard of maybe 3 of those bands.

MaxxLarge [TotalFark] 2008-04-29 12:47:56 PM
Wow. If these are band's "nobody's heard of", then I shudder to contemplate the sorry state of Subby's music collection.

Gangway Fathead 2008-04-29 01:50:52 PM
I have never heard of

Glasvegas
Manu Chao.
Duffy.
Biffy Clyro
The Pigeon Detectives

Other than that, this is probably the most bands I've ever recognized on a big bill like this. I'd go.

Davescookies 2008-04-29 01:59:34 PM
Duffy is the worst solo artist to ever come out of the UK. I've heard of all these bands. The ones that I would actually pay to see can be counted on one hand.

SubBass49 2008-04-29 02:04:18 PM
Manu Chao is an AWESOME live show...

/Noel Gallagher is a whiny biatch & needs to STFU.
//He's just bent because no one listens to his Beatles rip-off music anymore unless subjected to it by an AT&T ad.

Considering they're a live band with several synths and guitars, as well as two vocalists, I think you're a retard.

According to wiki they have three albums out. I know there are several synths and guitars but when you listen to it it just sounds like a a synth, a drum machine, and a vocalist. Listen to this song (new window) and tell me they need all these people in the band. I dont think i am retarded for not liking a certain band or the style they breed. I apologize if i offended you but i dont even know what you are talking about with this "live band" stuff. What the hell is a "live band"? Most of the bands i have come in contact with play live music and also do stuff in the studio and so do these guys aparently. Again if i offended you, or your taste/style, that wasnt my intention.

Band orientated like Amy Winehouse, Corrine Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, Rufus Wainwright?

I read the Oasis douchebag's comments. What he was trying to say was he didn't want some African-American rapper at 'his' UK festival. Which is ridiculously ironic considering the long tradition UK musical acts have of ripping off African-American music. But that's Oasis for you.

Infernal Wedgie 2008-04-29 07:04:48 PM
meh. lineup is meh. and i saw most of those acts at Coachella anyway. Coachella lineup was meh, too, but i've made it a habit to attend. it was worth attending just for the overall experience, but these lineups are just weak.

* We Are Scientists
* Vampire Weekend
* The Raconteurs
* Hot Chip

Goddamn, I hate hipster band names.

MikoSquiz 2008-04-29 09:20:08 PM
About half of those bands are good or great; at most half a dozen of them are actually obscure. Subby is either over sixty or avoids listening to music; my money's on both.

/Oasis were shiat ten years ago
//No idea about now; thought they were dead

Jay-Z is a fantastic showman. I'm betting his show is epic. Gallagher will be eating his words.

/Ben Folds doesn't have guitar either. So much for that theory.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned The Brian Jonestown Massacre being on the ticket, seeing as how Anton Newcombe has a very antisocial personality and is supposedly farkin psycho...I'd figure at least a few of the farkers here would totally be all over that.

Subby needs to turn on a radio now and again.

No British Sea Power on the lineup? Bah.

We Are Scientists and Raconteurs are worth the trip. Everyone else? Meh.

You didn't hear bass line? There's also various noises besides main synth line.

Of course they could replace half of band with guy who can play 3 synths at the same time
