This actually isn't a half bad cover, smitty. You obviously feel The Pixies are above covering, which they ain't.

Jamespoon [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 07:39:10 PM
You just don't want James Blunt covering any decent band.

This might undo the damage.

I'm no fan of Blunt (not really all that familiar with him, I must admit), and the Pixies are easily among my favorite 5 bands EVAR, and I must say, that was not at all bad. I think he more than did the song justice.

PC LOAD LETTER [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 08:32:16 PM
He's got enough of a farked up voice to pull it off.

I think he is like his name rhymes, but that was actually pretty good.

You undid your suck rating by a small percent.

I saw this one where he did an all "James Blunt" show. Worst concert evar.

FeedTheCollapse 2008-04-27 09:00:01 PM
I can imagine James Blunt doing a pretty decent Black Francis voice.

Never understood the adoration of the Pixies though. A couple good tracks, but nothing that great. This is coming from someone's whose taste centers around late 80s/early 90s indie...

Different strokes for different folks.

Had a roommate in college who biatched and biatched about me playing the Pixies all the time, and how they sucked, etc. After about a year, he stopped biatching, and when he moved out a few months later, he handed me a stack of blanks and asked me to burn all my Pixies for him.

/I had him burn a few of his CDs that I had biatched about, too :)

he covered an easily coverable song (not sure that is even a sentence)...it sounded ok

Like to see the dude cover 'Tame'

Pyynk 2008-04-27 09:37:47 PM
Yeah, I gotta agree with the consensus subby. This ain't a half bad cover. Now Pete Yorn's cover of "Red Right Hand"? That's bad.

almejita [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 09:41:37 PM
BTW...I think Los Angeles (Frank Black sans The Pixies...well, The Pixies sans the other 3 people) is one of the most beautiful (yes, I know that there's nothing wrong with that) songs I've ever heard.

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 09:50:30 PM
Great, Subby... Are you actually TRYING to make me like JAmes Blunt...?

FArk, I was ready to hate it so much, yet I couldnt deny to myself, this was pretty respectfully rendered... the intonations in his voices at the right places...

you just actually gave me my first PRO- james Blunt argument...Shame on you.... shame....

shortdarknangry 2008-04-27 09:56:44 PM
Fine, it wasn't offensive, it wasn't horrid, but it wasn't memorable either. It was...extremely adequate.

Coming soon to an elevator near you.

liquidlen [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 11:15:07 PM
Some songs are just performer-proof?

wiredmaverick 2008-04-28 01:01:27 AM
Subby is a stupid, stupid little girl

Kublai Khan [TotalFark] 2008-04-28 01:10:42 AM
Hey at least he's playing a decent song for once.

lolmadillo 2008-04-28 02:18:15 AM
I would have bet any amount of money on which song he covered

and i would have been right...

Thanks Fight Club!

/that song easily sounds like it could have been released 15 years later than it was

jiaxiaobo 2008-04-28 04:42:55 AM
Hate this James Blunt.

Love me some Pixies.

And this cover is actually not bad at all.

Just don't cover anything else.

Baumer 2008-04-28 08:55:39 AM

I can't find that anywhere. What's it from?

//likes pete yorn

ragnarqk 2008-04-28 09:38:22 AM
I knew it would be this song. Just knew it.

Compared to the Pixies' singer, he isn't bad to this song. ( I like the Pixies, and you know what I mean. ) But his accent kinda makes it weird sounding, like he's doing more of a karaoke than a a cover.

SU 2008-04-28 10:32:10 AM

It was recorded for Hellboy, not sure if it saw any release beyond the movie and I *think* iTunes. To his credit, musically it's ok. Just lacks the pathos and rumble that is Nick Cave. There's a demo available here (Pops).

Agamemnon 2008-04-28 12:05:23 PM
ohh crap.

keepitcherry 2008-04-28 10:27:26 PM
the pixies aren't bad, but christ they are the most overrated band of the last century next to the ramones.

Blunt's version sounds better!

NakedReporta [TotalFark] 2008-04-29 10:11:44 AM
That wasn't anywhere near as shiatty as I expected it to be. Actually, it's quite good. Forgive me.

goodbomb 2008-04-29 11:46:22 AM
so-so. he pops it up. makes it all hollywood. its a song about being crazy, afterall. better than i expected, but still not that good.

frank black loves punk. he's anti-self indulgence. james blunt, not so much.

CatManDont 2008-04-30 01:33:34 PM
He screwed up the lyrics. No real pixies fans here.
Background vocals - Wrong
Blunts Vocals - Terrible
Lyrics - Wrong
This Version - Crap

I agree with subby. There are better covers of this song out there. I think Nerf Herder did one, and it was far superior.
