rancid weasel: Desert eagle is an israeli army pistol?

Froim wiki:

The Desert Eagle is a large caliber gas-operated semi-automatic pistol manufactured primarily in Israel by IMI (Israel Military Industries) for Magnum Research, Inc. Magnum Research has also marketed various versions of the short recoil Jericho 941 pistol under the Baby Eagle name; these have no functional relationship to the Desert Eagle and bear only a moderate cosmetic resemblance.[1][2]

Magnum Research, based in the USA, developed and patented the original Desert Eagle design, and built the first prototypes of the gun, but manufacturing was contracted out to Israel, who made the final refinements to the design and put the gun into production. Manufacturing was moved to Saco Defense in the state of Maine from 1996 to 2000 which carried the XIX designation, but shifted back to Israel when Saco was acquired by General Dynamics.[3]

The guy was crazy, but he didn't deserve to die.

He never fired on police, they really should have confirmed that it was an actual firearm before shooting him.

Just more stormtrooper tactics from the "boys in blue." Enjoy your summary execution, Komrade...

So they should have waited to see if the man with the gun killed someone before shooting him?
Not like he was just standing around. If he charged or acted like he was going to shoot someone, then it's the police officer's job to protect people from harm.

how exactly? Now, I dislike abuse of police power as much or more than anyone. But if they saw someone brandishing the pictured weapon, they have every right to not wait to see if it fired real bullets BEFORE defending themselves. Now, if it were a pink super soaker then yeah. But this? No.

No, it's OK. David Duncan Clark sounds like a sufficiently Caucasian enough name to avoid problems.

Now if his name was Tyrone there would be a farking riot.

The wikipedia entry on "suicide by cop" is pretty interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_by_cop

It does say,"Some cases are obvious, such as pointing an unloaded or non-functioning gun (such as a toy gun or starter's pistol) at officers [...]"

I normally side against the police on this kind of stuff but this guy had it coming. You do not charge a cop with anything that looks remotely like a weapon unless you are suicidal. I feel bad for the cops in this case. It is a helluva emotional trauma to kill somebody.

You're totally right! He should be allowed to take out a couple cops before they can shoot him.

So you automatically paint all cops with the same broad brush, all of them are just a bunch of murderous stormtroopers with a license to kill.

One of my best friends is a cop, a sergeant on the local force. He and his wife have adopted two children. Perhaps those two cops in the article had wives and children they would have liked to go home to after their shift.

Don't give me the crap argument about it was just a BB gun. He acted in a hostile manner to the police, disobeying commands to halt and drop the pistol, and non-lethal methods were not effective. Are the police supposed to ask "Is that a real pistol?" and hope that the answer isn't a live round fired at them?

The guy got what he deserved.

TFA: had several previous contacts with Clark over threats he had made to other individuals, including former co-workers, and for displaying another authentic-looking pellet gun at a coffee stand.

A friend of mine once said that if you were big enough to carry one of those things, you didn't need a pistol!

100% agree. How selfish to inflict that trauma on the cops who had to shoot him. Even a righteous shoot is going to mess with their heads. If you absolutely must off yourself, don't make someone else do your dirty work.

Experienced this first hand not long ago. Sitting in Church, visitor stand up during the offering and starts waving replica (we obviously didn't know it at the time) pistol around. Gun was fake...beat-down was not (3 of us set upon him simultaneously//it's a church with a predominance of military). I'm sure if someone there had been armed he'd be dead, but as it was he just got his arse handed to him. The cops did the right thing in my opinion. Sorry to those who think it's cruel, but some risks aren't worth taking.

So, no. It's not a military pistol, it's made by a company with the word "military" in its name.

scotty425
It is to a reporter who doesn't bother to do a little basic research and probably knows jackshiat about guns.

That is correct. Any information about firearms in the MSM is almost always wrong.

I'm a police officer, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies. Not really, since some idiot got himself killed and has screwed these cops up for the rest of their lives. I'm sure they'll either move to desk work or be out of the police department in less than a year.

/would have shot the guy.
//you would be surprised how real looking fake guns are today and how fake looking some real guns are.
