Sounds like another attempt to help the Va Tech Jokies football recruiting

If students are having trouble you don't lower the bar, you raise it. Being able to join a sports team should be considered a privilege, something you have to work for, to achieve. Make the minimum requirement a 3.0 and stop treating the poor as if they are damaged goods.

Just tell them to switch their major to sociology, that will get you an easy 3.0

i didn't even know you could graduate with a degree at 2.0

This would require someone to have to study hard, pay attention in class let alone, Show up for class. If the athletes there were like the ones I went to school with the 2.0 would be achieved by joining the team and showing up to practice. To bad Norfolk has honest teacher who won't just pass the good players to keep them on the field winning games for the school

Solty Dog 2008-04-26 10:36:05 PM
Not everyone is going to get drafted to a major sports team. Athletes have a strong work ethic and an excellent team spirit. Combine that with the hard work they put forth to play sports and you have the ideal ditch digger.

VA should be commended with helping to strengthen the American workforce.

Although I understand the motivation behind this plan, which is to keep at risk kids out of trouble and into sports, I am certain the Nortfolk school district can come up with something more dignified for both the kids and the school. Perhaps that plan can also reach out to the less athletic kids that are also at risk and don't have the benefit of being able to toss a football. Yeegads.

There are ways to play sports that don't involve one's school.

This is why there should be academic schools and sports schools.

The think that I find scary is the fact that this guy posed for this and if it isn't a self portrait, someone very weird took that picture.

That actually makes it worse, just FYI. Freshman year of high school is full of amazingly difficult subjects like algebra-farking-1 and 'world geography'. If you can't pass that kind of thing, you need to be kicked out of all your extracurricular activities so you can focus a little more.

Is this the thread where we all brag about our high gpa's? Jeez, my gpa is pretty farking low, i average a 3.7 in my major and below a 2 in everything else. I study all the damn time, and im not complaining, just saying hard work isnt always going to get you a perfect 4.0.

That said, i do see a lot of people piss away their college careers and its a shame. But, looking down on everyone less capeable than you is pretty shameful too.

My Weeners to this reply didn't register for some reason . . .

I'm assuming that Norfolk is an urban district; having taught in an urban school, for several years, I became acquainted with the hands-off, uninvolved parenting techniques prevalent in city schools. Basically, the schools are taking responsibility because the parents aren't around after school or taking their kids to play in soccer leagues.

Good grief - I should have known...

I was looking for a pic of a jock-type guy studying. All I got from GIS was gay porn.

Protip: Leave the word 'jock' out of all further GIS without safesearch on.

What about virtually brain-dead athletes who consider themselves God's gift to humanity for placing a piece of rubber in a net like a trained seal? Can I still look down on them?

The reason why you couldn't find a pick of a jock studying is because it doesn't happen. Much like finding a pick of a blonde chick winning a Nobel Peace Prize for physics.

Another scary thing about that pic is the fact that Mr. Fail-sassin has lots of boxes of bullets on his shelf next to him. Not the kind of person I'd want having a loaded firearm anywhere near me...

Your GPA was obviously drug down by your failing grade in reading comprehension class and spelling class.

/Think about places besides colleges where you might get a GPA

THIS.

On Thursday I had a brainfart, tanked a test and got my first C. Since that was for a 3-credit class, it assraped my GPA.

A 3.0 was like a 60% in Calc, and like a 95% in Organic Chem. So, considering there are classes meant for athletes that are even easier, I consider this an affront to my 95%.
