Misplaced generosity. Dogs in most Eastern countries are tolerated. They are not tame, they are not cuddly pets. They usually are disease vectors and often have a horrid temper, pretty much feral. She's collecting rats from medieval Europe.

Anyone and I mean ANYONE who imports another rabid dog from Sri Lanka will be made to wear a school uniform and move to Magnolia.

You know, some people think it was rabies, not alcoholism, that killed Edgar Allen Poe.

There's your bit of rabies trivia for Sunday, April 27.

Can I have a slice of strawberry tart without so much rat in it?

-I mean seriously. Most countries won't let you bring as stinkin' piece of FRUIT through customs and they're bringing in rabid dogs?!?! WTF?! No quarantine period? There's no animals in England they can help?

Amigajoe: Um, WHY ARE THEY IMPORTING STREET DOGS FROM SRI LANKA?!

This.

Does the UK have a lack of homeless animals? If so, that's a good thing I guess, but I was under the impression that wasn't the case.

Aren't there other stray dogs in the UK she could rescue?

There's no trouble like imported trouble...

ban_sidhe [TotalFark] 2008-04-27 03:57:49 AM
The Humane Society here (Tucson) adopted out a rabid dog a few years ago. Oops. Not quite the same as importing them, but still...

/There was a rabid cow down the road from where I live, also.

Amigajoe: WTF?! No quarantine period?

FTFA: Mrs Cooling, from the London-based Animal SOS Sri Lanka charity, said the dog that died had been vaccinated before leaving Sri Lanka.

She had been with the dog at the quarantine kennels on Wednesday when she was bitten.

importing street dogs from sri lanka is farked up on so many levels.

i mean... PRIORITIES. WHERE ARE THEY.

also i'm assuming they flew the dogs out. um... couldn't they find a better use of money? and the environmental implication of flying a feral dog halfway across the planet is also considerable.

especially since england has no shortage of dogs.

wtf.

Surely we can get all the rabid dogs we need from France. There really is no need to look further abroad.

A licensed bat handler died in Scotland from a rare form of rabies caught from a bat in 2002.

You just have to wonder how people make career choices.

And no doubt you'll call it the "French disease."

That's why they need a social worker!

Still waiting to get it back from the lab, this time. It was fine two years ago, though!

Actual babies are starving to death in Sri Lanka, and these stupid shiats are importing "steet dogs".

Sentimental trash. Your Grandpa who took a bullet for your freedom kind of wishes he didn't.

miss jinxed 2008-04-27 04:43:38 PM
this is such a bad idea. i mean i appreciate their good intentions, but i was in sri lanka about a year ago and these sad, miserable dogs are everywhere. and many people don't at the very least ignore them and at the worst abuse them. i don't see what benefit there is to bringing them to London because they are basically wild animals. what they really should do is send veterinarians over there to spay or neuter them (i sound like bob barker a little bit, huh?).

I came here for the Daily Mail headline describing how these immigrant dogs are causing crime, stealing the jobs of British dogs and lowering house prices.

AlphaNumericus 2008-04-27 08:12:18 PM
I've seen Britons (both local chavvers and immigrants) who I liked less than rabid dogs.
