The only photo that I saw was of a jazz festival washboard player from New Orleans.

So, Hitler was cool with this?

I didn't know the French were still rounding up and turning Jews over to the Germans with a completely unnecessary enthusiasm.

I am no expert, but some of the exhibit photos that reportedly show the lighter side of Nazi life appear to be quick and dirty photoshop jobs.

FTFA: Zucca took the photographs while working for the Nazi propaganda magazine Signal and are being presented at a Paris Historical Library annex without any historical information, the newspaper said.

Propaganda presented without any context. Cool!

This.

Because context free propaganda is much better than regular propaganda which just leaves out the context.

Piss off the overlords in the US today and you get a nice trip to another country, for torture.

Here's some rare video footage of some French villagers' cheeky shenanigans shortly after the fall of France.

Of course, they were probably later executed, but its still hilarious.

It’s not the illiterate submitters that bother me (this is Fark after all), it’s the moderators who sit with their thumbs up their asses and randomly greenlight articles. They somehow manage to pick every broken or wrong link and every poorly worded, misspelled, or false description.

The behavior of the French still bothers me. Don't get me wrong, the Resistance was brave. The population, overall, was far from heroic. I couldn't imagine the Brits being so gleefully willing to surrender and round up Jews even though antisemitism was rife. I understand their psyche a bit after losing so many men in WW1, but I would have renounced citizenship if I were French back then and went to another country. Maybe I've just been reading too much Sartre, who, himself, was quite disappointed in the excuses of his countrymen/women.

You make an interesting point. I often ask my fellow Americans what they would do if China invaded us in the name of our own good or the defense of China. I'm disgusted by any able bodied man or woman who wouldn't fight to the death for their own defense. I don't see how an American can honestly fault Iraqis for fighting off invaders. We're Americans. We were insurgents that kicked the ass of the world's mightiest empire, yet we see it as dishonorable when our enemies do it? I dislike war, and am a HUGE peacenik, but if America is invaded, I'd gladly do whatever it took to defeat the enemy, including suicide bombing. And I don't know how I would react to Americans who collaborate with the invaders. I don't like thinking about that part.

As an American, I just don't have the worries, even buried deep down, that being invaded and occupied causes. Canada or Mexico aren't going to invade. I feel bad for criticizing European populations that just rolled over for the Nazis/Communists. I'd rather be dead.
