I'm not a Speed Racer fan, but that video was a lot of fun to watch.

This and Pineapple Express make me want to start getting high again before I go to the movies.

Looks like "Wipeout" for PS1.

It's either gonna suck or it's gunn' rock. I'd have to view the film to elicit an opinion.

Reminds me of F-Zero.

National weed sales will spike at the opening of this film

holy shiat, i need a barrel of weed. that shiat was awesome.

I came here to say, "that settles it, I am SO seeing this movie but I'm taking 4 hits of acid before I do" but I see that's been covered

I'm high right now, etc etc.

But seriously, never liked the cartoon at all, but I made the effort and watched the entire video.

I came, I tried, it's still stupid.

robosketch 2008-04-26 05:54:58 AM
I think this movie will be a blast. I kinda wish I was watching this as a kid or on drugs.

/or kid on drugs

AaronSynn 2008-04-26 07:35:18 AM
They should hand out joints and hits of acid with every movie ticket.

Also, this film marks the very first time I've wanted to fark Christina Ricci. She has officially left 'W. Addams' behind her.

It's like a fever dream set to music.

Couldn't get through the video. Song sucks. Quite frankly, I never understood the love for Speed Racer or anything associated with it. To me, it was always a special form of garbage.

cxjohn 2008-04-26 08:44:52 AM
Gives a whole new meaning to Trixie, huh?

So, it will be dumb. WHO THE HELL CARES. Can't people enjoy dumb fun for 90 minutes?

38 million people voted on American Idol last week.

I think that's proof enough. Especially because they blew it!

DonkeyDixon [TotalFark] 2008-04-26 09:33:56 AM
Never having seen a single episode of the original, I must say this looks entertaining. Maybe all the haters need to stop comparing it to what it was twenty-five years ago.

So will it be mushrooms or salad for dinner that night? Either could work...

even factoring out the original, it still looks pretty damn stupid.

Maybe all of the haters need to actually go back as adults and watch the original cartoon again.

Let's face it folks, the only reason that you like Speed Racer when you were a kid is because you were too young and stupid to know any better.

Crude 2008-04-26 10:50:16 AM
From the video, I would say that they pretty much nailed what I remember the look and feel of the cartoon. I haven't seen Speed Racer since I was 5 years old. That being said, why must everything be put down to a simple, stupid beat with some idiot rapping on it? Why? Just. Sing. The. Old. Title. Song.
/and no, you can't take a bite of my onionbelt

People do enjoy dumb, it's how Hollywood has survived these last few years.

AlgertMan 2008-04-26 11:01:23 AM
I loved Transformers last year. No reason me and my nephew wouldn't have a blast with this.

MrGuy 2008-04-26 11:06:18 AM
They should have just kept the Sponge version from that Saturday Morning Cartoons album that was released back in the early 90s (had some cool covers by Ramones, Helmut, Butthole Surfers) A quick search of Youtube reveals this: clicky pop (new window) Which is an even better video dispite the youtube craptasticness.

/gonna have to go see if I can find that tape now :P

I hate Spirtle and his farking pet Chim-Chim with the burning intensity of 1000 suns. Fark him.

CyranoJones 2008-04-26 11:31:24 AM
Do they have to put rap-crap into everything now? Me and the wife are always muting the TV because we don't want to be blasted with that shiat. If it's especially obnoxious and in constant rotation, we make a special effort to boycott that product.

all helicopters have clutches...

Mega_Doof 2008-04-26 11:34:59 AM
Nice. Love the "live" reproduction of the final few seconds of the cartoon's opening sequence at the end of that.

dmax 2008-04-26 11:36:08 AM
1) That song update was terrible, but ultimately catchy. Wanted to hate it - especially the rap, and then the Latin mutations of if - but, in the end, it seemed OK.

2) The cartoon was cheesy and awful and I still watched it to kill time, like my kids watch cartoon dreck these days. In that context, the movie did an admirable job of capturing that hyper-active non-sequiterism that the cartoon was infused with. That might be fun to watch, but after 10 minutes I might need to step into the lobby to decompress.

3) Christina Ricci? Cute but, when you look up five-head in the dictionary...

Shadow Blasko 2008-04-26 11:41:33 AM
The should have used the Alpha Teams remix of Go Speed Racer.

/With the sex bits included.

MIGGO 2008-04-26 11:42:49 AM
Sounds like they hired a third rate Black Eyed Peas to do the song...if such a thing is even possible.

I don't know how this movie will do, but I'm in.

/liked the Peas before Fergie.

From reading fark threads about Lost, 24, BSG, Two and Half Men, etc. Apparently not.
Most are tied to chairs with no remote and forced to watch things they hate and then feel the attention whore insatiable need to tell everyone how much they hate it.
I'll take my 8 year old boy and we'll have a blast. They're the reasons I like both Scooby Doo movies. We just sat and had fun.

Speed Racer was from the late 60's, Superfriends was from the 70's. Schlock is not limited by decade.
