Completely asinine. "Go put your life on the line and face daily threats on your life and the blood and terror of war and death...oh, and while you're there, don't look at any girly pictures because that's indecent."

acanuck [TotalFark] 2008-04-25 11:32:32 PM
With the Congressional Republicans, butt secks is OK, but looking at a woman as God created her (that would be in their words not mine), in a place with very few around is verboten.

I guess W can authorize rape of the civilians, er insurgents, in lieu of magazines....after all, it's just another form of torture.

What a Farkin country

sugarmagnolia94 2008-04-25 11:36:39 PM
huh? last time I checked, porn was legal. maybe they'd prefer that the soldiers take out their sexual repression frustrations on one another instead of the centerfold of the month.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2008-04-25 11:44:06 PM
They should ban masturbation and indecent thoughts too. God Bless America.

Upon unveiling his bill, Broun, a retired Marine, said,"Allowing the sale of pornography on military bases has harmed military men and women by: escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes; feeding a base addiction; eroding the family as the primary building block of society; and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad."

someone got cheated on while deployed and is looking for a scapegoat...

TheCid 2008-04-26 03:06:26 AM
Republicans are authoritarians who don't give a shiat about freedom. What else do you expect?

They seek to control the farking sex lives of the citizenry. That's what the whole gay marriage thing is about.

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2008-04-26 03:12:45 AM
Yes, because it goes so well when we tell grown people how to spend their hard earned money...

And in this case, very hard earned.

Maybe the activists should talk to some veterans about how Playboy and other reminders of home kept up their spirits far from home.

Looking at women's nipples? That's a crime.

This is ridiculous...

it would be one thing if Playboy was illegal to citizens but if it good enough for us, its good enough for our troops!!!

They deserve better!

eroding the family as the primary building block of society

This is especially ironic considering that the all volunteer American military is family orientated and nothing has done more to break that down than the multiple deployments and stop loss programs, all foisted upon them by the republicans.

Chummer45 2008-04-26 07:09:34 AM
Wow. I thought we were over this at this point. This is typical of recent Republicans in Congress. Instead of dealing with real issues that Americans actually care about, they grandstand to pander to a fringe of their base.

It's pretty despicable how they consistently use the troops for political gain.

Dubya's_Coke_Dealer 2008-04-26 07:31:54 AM
This is just ONE of the reasons why only 46% of soldiers are Republicans now. As opposed to like 75% when Bush took office.

Skeptos 2008-04-26 07:45:30 AM
I know that literacy and knowledge tests as a requirement for voting have been misused in the past, but I'm seriously starting to wonder if we shouldn't give them another try.

These halfwits are in office only because other halfwits elected them. And they are imposing their stupidity and backwardness on the rest of us. And that farking pisses me off.

If we did nothing more stringent than limit the franchise and the right to hold public office to people who could correctly identify the first five presidents, the majority religious denomination in Iraq, and the approximate ages of the Earth and universe, I suspect that about 80% of this country's most serious problems would disappear within a decade.

I fail to see what's wrong with this measure. American troops are often the face of America when they travel abroad, and Americans shouldn't be seen as uncultured, unprincipled people that always reduce women to mere objects of sexual gratification.

America has a proud history of supporting their liberated women, and as they try to liberate other countries from oppression into democracy, the troops should be demonstrating their respect and support for women.

I am assuming you have never been to Europe? Where you can take a short ride and visit the local Legal whorehouse.

Whats next? Going to ban alcohol, to protect our troops from appearing drunk.

We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write "fark" on their airplanes because it's obscene!

//Not even a little obscure

BilltheThrill 2008-04-26 08:59:59 AM
Yeah, because when a man performs a violent sexual act on a woman, it is because of the porn, not because they are a psycho.

Cornered Beef 2008-04-26 09:12:59 AM
So you give these people deadly toys, send them into civilian neighborhoods and trust them to do the right thing.

But you don't trust them with pictures of naked women.

Rrrright.

I think everything in our governments power should be done to stop porn from being distributed to our fighting men.

Think about it.

Hot, blistering heat in the desert. Eight Marines in their bunker, all tired. All sweaty. Big, buff, young, in shape men. All sweaty. Suddenly, someone breaks out the porn. All these young fit sweaty men start to get excited. They start passing the porn around.

And then BAM, before you know it, poor 18 year old PFC Johnny American, son of a good Christian family, is being passed around the bunker too, as the rest of the squad, driven into a homosexual fury by the porn, take turns nailing him on a pile of sand bags.

Just imagine it.

My nipples are getting hard just thinking about it.

That's why we need to keep porn from reaching our troops.

Wait, what?

Colby Buzzell wrote some great entries on porn in the military. An army moves on its stomach and spank mags. Period. His gripes about waiting to get into a latrine while he hears dvd porno audio pouring out of it are priceless.

I was wondering if anyone would see through it enough to rate it!
Thanks.

On the other hand, I thought the link I found was pretty disturbing, and I was forced to consider if these no-porn lobbyists have a point. Porn doesn't usually make you consider whether that glorious set of curves on the centerfold has a high IQ or is a witty conversationalist, and there is undeniably SOMETHING to the objectifying nature of pornography. While one could dismiss the 80% of the "pack rapists" are mercenaries, not armed forces, there's a point to made that most of the American mercenaries are ex-military, so it's really the same guys, just being paid more to do less. And even if 20% of the "pack rapists" are soldiers, isn't that enough?

However, if a man considers a woman as a person and not a sexual object, Playboy isn't going to change their mind. By the time your an adult, your outlooks are generally well-formed, it's not like those are kids being sent over there to die. And denying a last wank to a man who may die in service for his country tomorrow in the name of "freedom" seems hypocritical.

Er, by kids, I mean twelve and fourteen-year-olds. Not 18 and 19 year old kids, which, obviously, are...

... And I'm also wondering if Playgirl is available alongside Playboy in the base PX.

Don't they know what happens to the mags after they are finished with them? They pass them out to the Iraqis. (Hopefully.) It makes them want what we have instead of their religious fanaticisms.
(But then our religious fanaticisms want to stop that.)

I would be willing to make a pretty large bet that porn actually reduces sex crimes. Who is more likely to commit a sex crime?

1) Dude who has just jerked off to some good porn?
2) Sexually frustrated guy who hasn't seen any/gotten any or gotten off in some time?
