I don't see what the fuss is. She won by 9.3 percent. That's two digits right there!

... and what's up with CNN closing their comment section after 4 comments, 3 of which were lala land anti-Obama flame bait.

Damn it. That was some tasty bait. I was ready to torch that muthafarka!

The_Synergism 2008-04-25 05:14:57 PM
that made my head hurt.

plus, what's all the fuss over her winning by the PREDICTED margin?

there was no surprise. At one point she was a 25 point favorite, the last polls before the election had her at 11 points...which she failed to meet.

She needed to win by 20 points actually have a prayer coming out of PA.

Cmon the witch is dead. If the supers go for her the Dems will trash their shot at winning. You think a black person is going to vote for her if it shakes out like that?

I realize there are no black people in your neighborhood, but they are in mine, and they are Obama or nothing.

North Carolina, the largest prize left, will probably go for Obama by about 15 points, and Hillary will probably win Indiana by just a couple of points and she'll be in worse shape on May 7th than she is today.

gtraz 2008-04-25 06:10:03 PM
Their math is all wrong. %54.6435 of the vote is really 0.546435. Any 3rd grader will tell you that rounds up to 1 so "HILLARY WON %100 OF THE VOTE IN PENNSYLVANIA!!111!!"

GaryPDX: Nu huh, Obama has peaked out and the Hillabeast smells blood.

Here's the thing. Let's assume Clinton damages Obama so much he is seen as a loser. Clinton is also a loser. Running Obama and losing is MUCH better for the party however. If Hillary steals the nom, the Dem party is done for at least a generation. Obama could always regroup, and the 50-state strategy of him and Dean will help the party prosper going forwards and bring in new blood, if they run Obama.

Here's something I don't get with all the worry over Obama getting the nom and NOT attracting Hillary's base. Doesn't this presume that Hillary doesn't campaign for him? If/when he wins, how in the hell could she not throw her weight behind him, if she expects to have a political career in the Dem party after that? If she is [rightly] seen as why he loses, she is D-U-N, done.

Who gives a shiat? It's not going to change the delegates. It's not going to change the number of votes. It's a bloody percentage representation, morons.

Sir Roderick Glossop 2008-04-25 06:28:59 PM
GaryPDX: Nu huh, Obama has peaked out and the Hillabeast smells blood.

Even if he has "peaked out" (which is yet to be seen as NC and IN are still in the offing) he "peaked out" with more of the popular vote, more states and above all more delegates than her.

Now I'm not one who thinks the "superdelegates" are obligated to follow the will of the people (the DNC in its Mongoloid wisdom saw to that) but I do think that it would cripple the party for years to come were they to do so.

Personally, I think we should start pressuring these pussified mewling scardey-cats who are so afraid of backing the wrong horse that they're torturing the country and hurting our chances in November. Grow a pair you mincing Nancys!

fosborb 2008-04-25 06:30:31 PM
We can figure out all of our math with absolute certainty and round the final result, or we can round several times throughout our calculations to exploit the upwards trending of common rounding. When asked, what will our reason be for such an odd practice? Well, we did it because it gets the value we wanted, of course.

Why is this being treated with anything less than contempt by the media? I guess they're at least being upfront about it. . .

Rovian: How does Florida and Michigan fit into the 50 state strategy?

Being born and raised in Michigan, now in the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon, I say it is time for the voters to oust their elected representatives in the state legislature. Get Granholm out too, although I think she was stuck with the mess Engler left her, and she has tried to make the best out of it.

In the end, it is the party's primary. I hold a line that says no one other than those that are in the party should vote in that parties nominating process. Plain and simple.

Any revote at this point is tainted. Throw it out.

Exactly. If he loses, but his ground game and money regains the large Congressional lead they had before 1994 (or 1992... they even lost seats in the 1992 election), Obama has done a lot for the future of the party. He might never run for President again... or maybe seek a Court seat in a decade. A whole lot better than the bad blood if the insiders nominate a general election slaughteree to appease a constituency who will be dying off in the next decades.

I don't think she cares that much. $109 million does that. She's at a normal retirement age in 2012, the next time she'd have to run for Senator. She'll endorse, but be no more helpful than Bill's lukewarm endorsement was of Gore.

Still thinking VP Sebelius. Yeah, it's a shameless "substitution". I think that heals in six months. She's an accomplished governor, white, female, Catholic, moderately popular in a rural state, of a certain age, and critically, is not Hillary Clinton.

Ryan2065: People using integers instead of real numbers?

1245911 + 1037953 = 2283864
1245911 + 1037953 = 207958
207958 * 100 = 20795800
20795800 / 207958 = 9

Real numbers need not apply

Pixelvision 2008-04-25 06:41:09 PM

Yeah. She also smells a statistical impossibility. Sorry your candidate sucks.

Usually, when it's impossible the superdelegates don't need to make the deciding vote at the convention, do they?

I don't think Hillary is *probably* going to win it in the end... But I do think that she has a chance, and I also think that this is the farking PRESIDENCY and there's nothing wrong with making someone work for this shiat.

If Obama gets the nomination, now he'll have earned it at least a little - instead of just gliding in on a wave of populism and softball handling by the press with no real opponents. If Hillary gets it, then she was determined and hung in there even when it wasn't easy, and she'll definately have worked for her chance to head up the ballot.

Work for it, biatches!

Rovian: How does Florida and Michigan fit into the 50 state strategy?

considering the only clinton argument ignores all caucus states because they don't tally into the popular vote, and does so because disenfranchising a lot of states for no reason is the only way to find a metric that they are better than obama...

Definitely, although as I understood it there were some republicans in the state legislature that help to enabled this clusterfark, either way voters deserve to be heard because thats what democracy is about imo.
