Whiskey in the Jar? WTF?

I know their last 5 or 6 albums have sucked; but you could at least refer to them as a band that got famous playing their own songs.

I don't mind seeing them poked fun at; but at least counter-balance it with some respect...something like:

"...says Lars Ulrich (who is a whiny greedy assclown, but that is OK because he also helped write Creeping Death and Master of Puppets) "

Hey, here's a tip guys.

STOP FARKING TRYING TO SOUND LIKE KORN OF THE NINETIES, BECAUSE EVERY FARKING BAND OUT THERE TRIES TO SOUND LIKE KORN OF THE NINETIES EXCEPT FOR KORN!

Then go record an album. Perhaps it wouldn't suck.

Some of you guys are way too harsh on Metallica. Yes, I know Lars is an asshole, especially with regard to the whole file sharing thing. But the stuff they wrote prior to 1992 is magnificent, and the stuff they wrote after that, well half of it is still pretty decent.

Don't hate on them because they're old and their drummer is an evil, angry midget. Let's give them respect for the tremendous accomplishments they have made.

Well, saying that everything made since The Black Album is shiate, quite covers your statement, doesn't it?

this.

Metallica's music, even after the black album is all quality. Especially when you look at all the crap that came out of the 80s and 90s.

My dislike of Metallica stretches back to when they first hit the scene, the name alone seemed like they were trying too hard.

Then they became top 40 and never came up in conversations about metal anymore.

subby here...I seem to have hurt some feelings here...let me get one thing straight...yeah, I love Metallica. So why the hate? Yeah Im still hatin'for that napster thing, yeah yeah ill get over it but What kind of farking band attacks their own fans? the nail in the coffin was seeing lars'stupid arrogant smile carrying a dolly with 6 crates full of metallica fan names, up the napster office to have them banned...

so for that kind of arrongant assclown-ery move they will get that curtious respect back (ok, i confess I was in a fowl mood when i submitted)

music wise, i *LOVE* most of the pre-"Black Album" , I remember the day it came out, 5 metalheads in the room and I looked at them scratch their heads listening to James Hetfield sing a ballad.....

everything else is alright. The new album might be "alrigth" also but you know what they say about allright?

No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shiate

What St. Anger should have been.

Indeed. Amazing album. Wish I could see them on tour this year.

Okay, we've already got Napster and recent suckage out of the way. Somebody bring up Megadeth and this thread will be complete.

Not a big fan of Lars or their idiotic (IMO) stance on file sharing, but Master of Puppets and pretty much the whole Black Album...Holy crap is that good. Can't hate on 'em too much.

Hetfield 2008-04-26 05:26:22 AM
Still love Metallica. In fact, Justice and Load are my favorite albums. St. Anger could have been decent, too, if they had decided to actually record an album instead of turning the recording session into extended therapy for Hetfield.

Whatever your opinion on their last albums, they're still an incredibly amazing live act and know how to put up a good show, so if you've ever been a fan, just go see them when you get the chance.

Despite your screen name Hetfield, you obviously never saw Metallica in the '80's. That live band and the live band you say is so great now aren't even closeto each other.

Proof? Look up "Battery" from the '89 Seattle show...then look up anything from, say, "Cunning Stunts".

Not even CLOSE.

Here's one of my problems with Metallica:

The Kill/Ride Medley.

Stop it.

Either play the songs, or don't. But don't give me 20 seconds of a few songs.

The other major problem that won't go away is St. Anger. Promise to bury it forever, and I will buy a ticket for a concert.

"I hated Metallica before they were big."

Wow. You are quite the elitist hipster douchebag of Metal. You probably have no friends.

...and subby, and all the other "chic-to-hate-Metallica" twirps, will promptly pirate a copy of it to their iPods, so they can claim to "have hated it first".

/seen Metallica in 1986 Master of Puppets tour, with Bassist Cliff Burton, when they opened for Ozzy at the Long Beach Arena.

// Was at their '89 Seattle Show, still have the ticket stub.

And 20 years later, you're still bragging about this? Who's trying too hard here?

Aeonite: What St. Anger should have been.

Hold on now. That's a great album, don't get me wrong, but it is not what Metallica has been or ever will be. DT is great prog metal written by flawless technical musicians. Metallica doesn't have their skill and is not trying to fill the same niche. You might as well pull out an Opeth album and say that's what St. Anger should have been. Apples and oranges, even within the confines of metal.

Yeah, your favorite band sucks too. I'll find some reason to hate them that's as petty as yours. Including, but not limited to: They (don't/do/want too much to) sound the same as they did (last year/last album/last decade), their new album is (supbar to/dwarfed by/a copy of) their first album(s), their political (jive/vibe/lack of) is (hokey/trying too hard/stupid), they're now all about (making money/beating a dead horse/covering actually good songs), and their (drummer/bassist/lead guitarist/trombone section) is/are a (douchebag/moron/sellout). Either that or they're loser nobodies and you can keep them to yourself.
