meh, i remember hearing about how obama's speech on race was going to be disastrous to his campaign, even long after the results were in and it very explicitly was a benefit.

i like how abc decides to paint it as hurtful to his campaign before it even airs, to prove that they are absolutely talking out of their ass.

Painting Obama to look bad is what ABC does.

From the snippets I saw this morning... doesn't seem he's saying anything that's all that damaging to Obama, at all.

Might actually be helpful to get a full picture of the man, instead of third generation opinions from brain dead pundits and talking heads looking for the next "big story".

Really getting sick of all the manufactured outrage over this issue...

cameroncrazy1984 [TotalFark] 2008-04-25 02:47:58 PM
Meh, he'll just spend $20 million there to force her to keep up, then bankrupt her (more than she already is.)

TheNintendoKid 2008-04-25 02:48:02 PM
He's absolutely right

They're painting him as a caricature.

I want to see what happens to the first guy who tries to call this ex-marine on his 'patriotism' to his face.

He volunteered for the Marines and fought in Vietnam. As a corpsman in 1966, he served on the medical team that cared for President Lyndon Johnson. The White House gave him three letters of commendation.

My god, He's worse then Osama Bin Laden!!!

I didn't seem him wearing any flag pins. Isn't that required for all true patriots under the Constitution?

Everyone is going on and on about a soundbyte that says something to the effect of- I am a pastor, I do what pastors do and he is a politician and does what politicians do. Many "pundits" are using this as "proof" that Rev. Wright is implying hypocrisy on the part of Obama.

/How stupid does American Television believe people are? Or is politician a synonym for hypocrite or something, here?

wolvernova 2008-04-25 02:52:35 PM
I like Obama, but this asshole Wright is one of the reasons I probably won't vote for him. As much as the right has overplayed him, I'm amazed how dismissive those on the left are about his remarks. That's some mighty hateful shiat.

Lawnchair 2008-04-25 02:55:21 PM
Since Obama's got the nomination locked up, it's probably time to have Rev. Wright out there so much that people are flat-out bored by him.

His church services have been on TV in the Chicago area and carried by national satellite services (TV One) for decades now. Literally thousands of hours of footage. It seems like someone would have a whole lot more than about 3 minutes worth of YouTube clippery by now. Where's the rest?

It is also worth mentioning that the United Church of Christ has about 1.2 million mostly-white, mostly-Democratic, mostly-politically-active members who are getting tired of this crap. Other liberal churches (Unitarians, etc) are feeling the same way. Like Hillary dissing on the "activists", she's going to make a lot of the Democratic base angry (or, conversely, a lot of the Democratic base very loyal once Obama and Dean put the cap in her ass).

They have to keep Hillary in the primary, because otherwise they would have to report on actual news. Like the war, economy, that sort of thing.
And yes, they do think the US public is stupid. Just check out reality TV.

When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. The government put them in chains. She put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in sub-standard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law, and then wants us to sing God Bless America...no, no, no. Not God bless America, God damn America. That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent.

Yeah, mighty hateful.

Or, not so much.

Cokehed Roberts thinks Reverend Wright should just lie back and enjoy the slandering of his name that's gone on and continues to go on?

WTF?

Oh, hold on a sec? ABC?

The guys who did that so-called "debate" the other night?

Nevermind.

/Rev Wright and his social justice gospel are far preferable to the religious wingnuts that McInsane deems fit to associate with and is far less scary than Doug Coe and his Fellowship (aka the Christian Mafia) that Hillary has aligned herself with.
//Howsabout covering those stories, ABC?
///Yeah, that's wot Quatchi thought.

Theaetetus 2008-04-25 02:58:24 PM
Compare to McCain's beloved friend, Rev. Hagee:
All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are - were recipients of the judgment of God for that. The newspaper carried the story in our local area that was not carried nationally that there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades. So I believe that the judgment of God is a very real thing.

How is that less hateful than "The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent"?

The media took everything he said out of context. The only crazy/inaccurate thing he said was about the government inventing AIDS.

America is somewhat culpable for 9/11 because of our foreign policy decisions.

America has treated the poor like shiat for 100s of years, and saying god damn America for treating poor people like shiat, blacks like sub-humans doesn't seem out of line.

But angry black guys are very scary, so I understand why you won't vote for the black guy who goes to an angry black guy's church.

While it would certainly be interesting, I'm not sure a surprise victory by the write in Linus/Stallman ticket is what America needs.

HA! I remember after the Indonesian quake, Pat Robertson blamed it on San Fransisco gays or something inane. I wondered why the Holy One would strike on the other side of the globe to protest American sinfulness. According to Hagee, God's aim is getting better!

Land that I loathe.
Stand beside her
And chide her,

From the Rezko slums
To Bill Ayers' bombs,
To gun-clinging chums
Filled with woe.
God damn America!

It doesn't matter. Pointing out the flaws of your opponent isn't a defense. That's especially true for those of us who aren't republicans or democrats.

I never had a problem with Wright although I do consider his remarks racist. Either way, it only very minimally reflects on my opinion of Obama. If I liked Obama, it certainly wouldn't be enough to cause me not to vote for him. I don't like Obama for other reasons, but that's a different story.

Mr. Anon: America is somewhat culpable for 9/11 because of our foreign policy decisions.

wrong. the responsibility is squarely on those who committed the act. a nation's foreign policy should only be based on its own interests, not whether or not someone else does or doesn't like them. i submit we could dump israel and stop being the world's policemen and the terrorists would still hate us and have carried off 9/11

America has treated the poor like shiat for 100s of years, and saying god damn America for treating poor people like shiat, blacks like sub-humans doesn't seem out of line.

we've spent gazillions of dollars on welfare and social programs and enacted hundreds or even thousands of laws to help the poor. how is that treating them like shiat?

I don't think we do, that's why network TV is in the crapper and on cable they almost never cancel a show.
Reality TV is the cheapest way to go and is the logical choice when their revenue drops like rock..
