Everyone knows the Palestinians are excellent propagandists -- no one will seriously question this. Knowing that, if Hamas/Islamic Jihad did lay down their arms (unlikely tag anyone?), it would really galvanize a lot of people to their cause as they would show that, for once, they are being reasonable. Imagine if that happened and Israel still came in and blew up apartment buildings, killed innocent civilians, etc. The entire world would turn against the Israelis and the Palestinian cause would be greatly furthered

This conflict will go on for at least 50 more years if not more.
The Palestinian children who are born into this conflict will know nothing else besides war, even their media portraying a glorious suicide bombers. Outside Islamic countries will continue supply of arms and money into the region, just to keep Israel on its toes.
Israel at the same time, will not stop building the settlements.
It will come down to either some major shift in military balance from one of the neighboring countries, or a mass killings of Palestinians.

Sigh. Shouldn't this conflict be listed as one of the longest "Gotcha last" contests ever?

Easy answer: Sever ties with Israel; cease all foreign aid (to all countries); disassociate U.S. interests from Israeli interests; stop fighting proxy wars for them.

...then my tax dollars wouldn't be used for their horrors.

Has nothing to do with Jews - it has to do with Israel and radical Zionists.

I hope that satisfies your curiosity Snore.

It cant go for 50 years, at most 20 years simply because of Demographics.
The people of israel want a majority jewish in a democratic state, but cant have it if West bank and Gaza are part of israel as well, so they will be broken off before then.

We know what the conclusions are, we just cant get to the decision process of how to get there.
There will be:
1.A Palestinian state of the West Bank, the Gaza strip, and land redistribution where settlements close to the green line will be incorporated in exchange for Israeli territory.
2.There will be a wall in between Israel and the West bank
3.A land corridor between West bank and Gaza under Israeli supervision and Palestinian sovereignty
4.East Jerusalem will be a part of the Palestinian state
5.If negotiations with the Saudi Accord and the Syrians work out, then the Golan Heights will be a de-militarized nature reserve under Syrian Sovereignty.

(from yesterday's Huffington Post):

Olmert: Bush And Sharon Had Secret Deal To Expand West Bank (new window)

"Ehud Olmert, the current Israeli prime minister, said this week that Bush's letter gave the Jewish state permission to expand the West Bank settlements that it hopes to retain in a final peace deal, even though Bush's peace plan officially calls for a freeze of Israeli settlements across Palestinian territories on the West Bank. In an interview this week, Sharon's chief of staff, Dov Weissglas, said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reaffirmed this understanding in a secret agreement reached between Israel and the United States in the spring of 2005, just before Israel withdrew from Gaza."

THAT's the kind of evil that I don't want my tax dollars to support Snore.

Your wife-beater analogy is off:

1. The analogy implies that the Palestinians (the husband in your analogy) are the stronger of the two sides

2. The analogy also implies that the stealing of someone else's land is not a provocation

Care to try again?

ChopSueyKS 2008-04-25 12:05:32 PM
IamSpartacus: East Jerusalem will be a part of the Palestinian state

I agree with almost everything you say except for the time line (it'll take longer than 20 years...if not I'll be out of a job before I even get started) and the statement above. Israel is willing to give up Gaza, West Bank, all of that but I doubt they'll give up all of Jerusalem. It's just not practical to divide a city in half. But who knows, maybe you are right.

/Also a little unsure about the Golan...it would have to be one hell of a friendship for Israel to give that back to Syria. It's a military and resource strong hold and I don't see Israel giving all of that up for nothing.

protectyourlimbs 2008-04-25 12:06:00 PM
How is Gaza treating your Palestine "state" fernt ?

SnoreCriminal 2008-04-25 12:07:36 PM
fernt: Easy answer: Sever ties with Israel; cease all foreign aid (to all countries); disassociate U.S. interests from Israeli interests; stop fighting proxy wars for them.

Sever ties with Israel - Ok, so unlike the way we treat every other nation on Earth, we would simply break off all ties with Israel and have nothing to do with them? Seperate but equal?

Cease all foreign aid - Ok. Screw those brown people. Just because they are starving, that isn't our problem, right?

Dissassoiate US interests from Israeli - So when we see genocide, we do nothing about it, since Israel takes an active interest in stopping genocides. We do nothing to stop terrorism, since Israel has stopping terrorism on their interest list.

Proxy wars - which proxy wars have we fought for Israel?

Anarchofascist 2008-04-25 12:08:10 PM
Wow, seeing as the Gazans are massively deprived of food, water and other basic needs, watching them die en masse of starvation and water-borne -- what's this, you say? Longer life expectancy than any other Arabs in the Levant other than Israeli Arabs? No one starving or dying of cholera? That can't possibly be!

Bringing an end to the cycle of violence is critical, but come on people, humanitarian crisis in Gaza? UNRWA gives the international aid equivalent to a blowjob from a hot buxom Norwegian (always friggin' Scandinavians) to every Gazan male 12 or over on a daily basis.

fernt 2008-04-25 12:11:41 PM
SnoreCriminal: Proxy wars - which proxy wars have we fought for Israel?

Iraq, and we're about to hit Iran for 'em and then Syria.

As for foreign aid, most of the money goes to the corrupt officials, then it turns into a World Bank loan, which is defaulted on - and then the country's resources belong to the World Bank to divvy up. Foreign aid doesn't work - most of it is wasted and ends up in the wrong hands.

I love it. Israel fights genocide. Right. While it is doing its best to exterminate the Palestinians. Nice.

If Israel wanted to exterminate the Palestinians, it really wouldn't take that much effort from them. The fact that they have yet to do so to date should prove to you that they both do not want to "exterminate" them and haven't done so.

BrotherThaddeus: 1. The analogy implies that the Palestinians (the husband in your analogy) are the stronger of the two sides

Not necessarily the stronger, but definitely the angrier, more quick-tempered side willing to result to violence when things don't go EXACTLY the way they want.

BrotherThaddeus: 2. The analogy also implies that the stealing of someone else's land is not a provocation

If it's not stealing land, it's imprisoning militants. If it's not imprisoning militants, it's praying at Temple Mount. If it's not one thing, it's another, just like the angry husband -- sometimes the house isn't clean enough, sometimes the meal isn't hot enough, the beer cold enough, etc. It's just a simple justification for continued aggression

Exterminate is a harsh word. I don't think they actually care a whit about what happens to the Palestinians. Their interest is purely in taking their land away.

Honestly now, whats wrong with just moving them to Jordan or Saudi Arabia or something? No killing involved. They can walk away with money and food and stuff, use it to buy a new place in another country, feed their families, pray with/around other Muslims, everybodys happy! If they dont want to leave then they have to be nice and not bomb anyone. Why is that wrong?

fernt: I love it. Israel fights genocide. Right. While it is doing its best to exterminate the Palestinians. Nice.

Israel doing its best to exterminate the Palestinian population? Not only are there ten times more "Palestinians" today than there are in 1967, Israel also gave them access to schools, hospitals, decent conditions, etc... unlike what most people in the Middle-East had access to.

They decided to screw the pouch and attack the hand that fed them, but that doesn't mean Israel ever tried to exterminate Palestinians.

The Israelis push it as far as they can - there's only so much the international community will put up with. The primary reason we took out Saddam for them (using 9/11 as an excuse) was his support of suicide bombers, the lobbing of SCUDS and the threats of even more if Israel kept doing what it was doing.

We THAT little problem is solved now, isn't it. Great. Our economy is tanking, our dollar is worthless, we're borrowing ourselves into bankruptcy from the Chinese for the war - that served to make Israel safer.

With friends like Israel....
