I love Frank but I think arsenio is the ultimate tool. I really don't wanna pass-up anything that has Zappa in it. Is there a version of this with rubbergumz edited out?

anyhow Stubby, +1 props for Zappa content

Great interview but I didn't see the bonus "SEE THIS BAG??" moment?

That interview was less painful than anticipated. Amazing how the politics of 19 years ago could so precisely represent the politics of today. Or maybe not so amazing... Loved "Jazz from Hell" when it came out, but I've never seen the film discussed. I dig Frank, but unless someone that has seen it can persuade me otherwise, I don't think that I could sit through a two hour Zappa movie.

karnal: Great interview but I didn't see the bonus "SEE THIS BAG??" moment?

It was at 4:12 during the first commercial break, right after the tool is walking the dog with the yo-yo. It was a commercial that the person didn't cut right.

As always, anything Frank has to say (or play) is worth listening to. One of the smartest guys this country has produced. This vid sadly reminds me of how much we could use a few smart guys these days.

Frank - come back, come back.

I find it weird that I like what Frank Zappa has to say, but I really can't bear his music. I could listen to the man talk all day long, but please don't sing about it.

I think the country lost the day Frank Zappa wasn't allowed to do his version of the "Late Show".

You want to see a brutal Zappa interview, here's the famous CNN Crossfire interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9856_xv8gc&feature=related

Zappa was alot of things. Wierdo, great musician, started the trend of giving his kids crazy names. But watch this video closely. He predicted the attacks on the Constitution, taking away freedom of choice, and the religious right taking control of the nation. Dude was borderline insane but he saw the world like it really is before most people. Maybe he was the most sane out of all of us.

Thanks for the clip.

Why is that practically every TV interview you see with him, the interviewer never asks questions that are the least bit interesting?

It's always the same BS...how did you get started? why did you name your kids Moon and Dweezil? blah blah blah....It also seems that just when Frank is about to really get into something worthwhile, the interviewer either cuts him off to ask something stupid or they have to go to a commercial break.

i wont point out the most humiliating failure here(too easy), ill point out the 2nd worst one. 'ok catholic girls is good' is like saying,'i hate the beatles but that yellow submarine song is GREAT!'.

At least he didn't pick "Bobby Brown" or "Dinah Moe Humm". I'm a Zappa fanatic and I hate both of those songs.

I love that Crossfire clip.

"Religious theocracy" HA!
nail-hit-on-head

Those stuffy assholes are so stupid.
They are clearly clueless and obviously assume Zappa is some Alice Cooper-like dumb "shock rocker" or something.

God I hope I don't become that goddamned asinine when I am in my 60s.

And I thought I'd seen all the cool Zappa clips on Youtube. It really amazes me that anyone who would even remotely be considered a "rock star" could be so level-headed and sharp. He had that magical combination of dignity and shamelessness that it seems musicians are lacking these days. My favorite moment is this exchange from the Crossfire appearance:

"How much money have you made off of this stuff, Frank?"
"Oh... millions."

By the way, what's his song about Michael Jackson? I've got 23 Zappa albums and I don't think I've ever heard that one. I suppose "You Are What You Is" could apply but it's too early.

I remember the Arsenio interview, and watching it again, it's still as awkward as it was then, the Crossfire one I also remember him taking that sniveling little clueless fark to task.

Not a tinfoil hat guy, but the appearance of cancer around the time he was getting on the politico's nerves always makes me wonder... (of course, he was a guy who once proclaimed cigarettes were "food", so there's that.)

Unless he was inhaling through his asshole, I don't think the cigarettes killed him.

I had completely forgotten about his aborted t.v. show. And he really did nail the situation with the '88 election, didn't he?

If you've never read The Real Frank Zappa book, do yourself a favor and track down a copy. I go back and read it every 4 or 5 years.

The only thing my ex took that I really want back. Damn, and it was hard to find in the first place.

My favorite quote (as best as I can remember): "I want a government that fixes the roads and protects the borders but otherwise leaves me the hell alone. What, you too?"

Trivia-it was because of this song that you will never see an official release of the famous '88 tour "Beatles Medley", which featured three Beatles tunes in medley form but the lyrics were changed to be about televangilist Jimmy Swaggart. Since Jerkoff owns the Beatles catalog, he wouldn't license the song to Zappa.
It does exist among audience recordings of shows from that tour, however.

You gotta love how John Lofton totally godwins the conversation.
Hitler used words to slaughter jews? That's his argument? Jesus Christ, lol.

Insane? Are you nuts? The guy was an absolute genius which is why he could be so artistically prolific and still spend time raging against the direction the country was headed - a direction he saw very clearly. The only reason people thought he was insane was because nobody believed the predictions he was making could ever possibly come true. And yet they did.

Not that hard to find (pops to Amazon)

LOL. agreed. He also loved caffeine. It was more of a "I don't think he was a health nut" parallel.
