US commanders claimed that a previous peace deal with militants in North Waziristan in 2005 led to a tripling of attacks on coalition forces in Afghanistan.

A previous deal with Mehsud, which involved paying him large sums of money, failed after several weeks.

Jesus.

Maybe he made a secret backdoor deal with Jack Bauer which will lead to the disarming of a nuclear warhead? Don't you watch TV?

Don't tell me they cut a deal with that motherfarking sunroof.

Wow, if it were America they would have scapegoated him. You know it was Mushareff, not this putz.

Well, this is not exactly the assassin who killed Bhutto. The guy they cut a deal with is a major leader in the region. Pakistan is smart to try something different. Besides, they can always betray him later. Relax!

What is this feeling I'm having right now?

Ah yes... the feeling of not being surprised by this at all.

Pakistan is all over this. Paying people not to shoot at them, it worked so well for US. Oh wait....

Looks like we are losing Pakistan as an ally... and with their nuclear arsenal and the continuous saber rattling between them and India, this does not bode well... Kashmir is going to be the start of WWIII...

You never had Pakistan as an "ally", you had them as a geographical sugar-daddy for the invasion of Afghanistan, and I'm quite sure there were some sweet deals for in the department of interest-free loans, arms purchases and so on.

We were pretty cozy with Mushariff and while they definitely weren't allies in the traditional sense of common ideology, they were the closest thing we had in the region, Saudi Arabia being another one like this!

At least thats my take on it!

Why can't other countries control their tribes like the U.S. controlled it's tribes during the great western expansion? Silver forked tongued bastards!

"You base our aircrafts, and we fail to notice your complete disdain for things like democracy, human rights, freedom of speech, and we all get along 'splendedly."

Fine summary, works well for the Turkish case as well.

Thats a bit sad, but true I think...

I still believe our greatest ally in the region is Israel...

I thought alliances required a mutual effort, that is another one-way relationship.

Well in that respect, basically all of our alliances are very one sided! we receive very little from most of our allies!!!

Continued saber-rattling with India? I don't think you have been reading the news lately. The India vs. Pakistan paradigm seems to be shifting.

Given that we just caught another guy spying on us for Israel, "greatest" should be taken with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't be so sure! Kashmir is still a hotly contested zone and the history of violence between the two nations goes up and down... we may be seeing a lull in the action but we aren't out of the woods yet!!!

Oh most definitely!!! Israel is far from perfect and I definitely have issues with them. However given the status of all of the other nations in the region, Israel is till our greatest ally there!

:)

True, in the same sense that getting kicked in the nuts is better than having your eyes gouged out.

Kind of like the US federal government did with CIA employee Luis Posada Carriles, the terrorist who blew up a passenger airliner and killed all 73 people on board back in 1976.

www.latinamericanstudies.org

This CIA scumbag was also involved in smuggling materiel for Ollie North. This terrorist is now living in Florida.

It's not terrorism when the CIA does it!

That will probably cause us to break out into war some day- to be perfectly honest.
