Unlikely tag would have been more fitting.

if mccain picks an african american or woman for his running mate, that would mean that no matter what happens, we will have an african american or woman in the white house for the first time in our history.

frankly, i think that would be cool. that no matter what, america would be taking some semblance of a step forward. it would at least add a glimmer of a silver lining to the outside chance of mccain winning.

i think he'll still pick a crusty old white guy though.

what?

I say again... What?

Carly "pound HP into the ground as hard as a jackhammer" Fiorina will turn into Carly "pound the country into the ground as hard as a jackhammer" Fiorina.

She's one of the biggest idiots in the U.S. today, and that is saying a lot.

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 06:43:06 PM
Well, as someone who has experience taking over a long-established organization that had been successful for many years and quickly running it into the ground, she would appear to be uniquely qualified for this position.

Cagey B [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 06:57:17 PM
This would represent the worst VP pick in the history of the United States of America.

No, really. Throw Huckabee out there. Yes, I'm remembering that Cheney is the VP. Mmmhmm, I do know that Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton. And yeah, I'm remembering Dan Quayle too.

Carly Fiorina as President of the United States would be worse than Bush. Paired with a 72 year old candidate with health problems and rapidly approaching senility, she would be one of the worst ideas ever. EVER. I would sooner Mitt Romney become the President.

Cagey B [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 07:04:09 PM
robsul82: My friends, has Carly Fiorina been elected so much as dogcatcher in the past?

Oh, but it's so much worse than that. We've had Presidents who haven't been elected before (Ike comes immediately to mind). This we can handle.

But to find a person who, at almost every opportunity, made the worst possible decisions for their company, did enormous amounts of damage to a once-respected Silicon Valley operation, and proved themselves to be an absolute bonehead at every turn, and then proceeded to pocket a $25 million dollar reward for farking up? And then to put them one old-ass heartbeat away from the Presidency?

Carly Fiorina should be reviled by everyone of every political persuasion. She is an incompetent chowderhead who looted one of the better companies the United States has to offer. And they're talking about her as VP? I am completely serious when I say that I'd rather see Huckabee/Roof Dog/Cheney/McKinney/Nader assume the presidency than her.

McCain will pick a right winger for VP that makes Dick Cheney look like Dick Clark.

He kinda has to just to keep the right wing noise machine squarely behind him.

There were rumblings about this earlier, but it doesn't make it any less dumb.

The only reason she would be in there is to neutralize the whole 'something other than an old white guy' idea. She's smart enough to realize this, so hopefully she's smart enough to say no.

Keep dreaming. Not remotely reasonable.

She struck me as relatively intelligent when I saw her on Bill Maher.

And let's face it, she can destroy a company's budget and blame it on someone else like a real man. Isn't that the Republican ideal for the Office of the President?

Lawnchair 2008-04-24 10:36:05 PM
It would, once again, confirm the fact that Obama pretty much has to choose Sebelius for his VP, unless Olympia Snowe can be talked into it. Because, no matter how holy-Jesus horribly Fiorina has done (said clinging to my HP-48 calculator), a not-insubstantial number of voters (i.e., my mom) would vote for that combo over Obama/other-dude.

Yea, the people who they may think would vote for her have one thing stopping them...they know her.

I actually think it's a shrewd choice. McCain represents the military wing of the party but neither the moral right nor the country club set trust him. Picking someone from the moral right will alienate the independents who he needs. So it's got to be someone from the country club set. She's young and a woman and she won't show him up. She'll attract money he desperately needs. There really are lots of positives here. It's not an inane idea.

That's not a prediction. Just saying that it's not as far-fetched as some make it out.

Skeptos 2008-04-24 10:38:36 PM
That this person is even being considered as a serious candidate is indicative of pretty much everything that's wrong with our political system today.

She's actually quite intelligent. I did some reading since my previous statement. It looks like when she started at AT&T, she did pretty good, but as she gained more power, she made worse decisions. All culminated by the disastrous HP/Compaq merger.

saintstryfe 2008-04-24 10:39:12 PM
my favorite thing from Carly is she tagged her company with the slogan "Innovate" - then proceeded to license the iPod. When the iPod was still red hot and everyone didn't have one. And yet, despite thousands more retail outlets then Apple could ever hope to get access to... less then 5% of iPods sold at that time here HP-branded.

They failed to sell iPod stuff.

That is some epic fail.

John McCain represents the country club Republicans just fine. This move is strategic for getting support among press-hating Republicans, given that Fiorna apparently authorized the attempts to hack into journalist's computers. But it's probably going to alienate a lot of people when they see how poorly she managed HP.

She drove HP into the ground and couldn't sell an iPod.

It's a tough call, admittedly, but I think I'd rather have her than Hillary answering the phone at 3am.

Apple wasn't that cool when the iPod came out. The iPod made Apple cool again. They succeeded because they incorporated style and functionality. I have an iPhone and love it because it is incredibly functional and damn good looking. I know it doesn't do what a bunch of other phones do, but style is a huge selling point.

That said, given McCain's age and health, his VP choice cannot be understated. Haven't we figured out what corporate republican executives can do to us at this point? They refuse to get rid of the quarterly profit mentality.
