That's some bullshiat. I'm no fan of LA (I actually dislike it), but to claim it's as bad as a 3rd world city is ludicrous. Perhaps the author has never really been to an actual 3rd world city, but this just seems like America bashing at its finest. Half of Toronto is made of immigrants and yet still manages not to be a series of shiatty suburbs sprawling into one another as they degrade into a mass of crime ridden barrios. If they are illegal they are nothing because technically they do not live here. So technically they can't be counted as US citizens.

Now for my real comment.
I always love when the UK decides to step in and make some targeted US city article. Really WTF? I mean I am glad that the UK now recognizes we have an immigration problem. But LA can not be a third world country when more than half the "citizens" are not really CITIZENS because they are illegal. So it does not count. The End.

Why is it the government's job to raise their standard of living for poor immigrants? America used to be the land of opporunity, where people would come over and work hard. (My Grandparents, for example.)

These days, too many of them come over here to mooch off the system.

It does make one wonder just how business can get done, if nobody speaks the same language. English, Spanish, French, Guyanese, whatever, if everybody is talking differently, nobody is going to get much done, or it is going to extremely costly....And I'm not talking about ordering tacos from a street vendor, or checking into a hotel,as those are minor and infrequent interactions, but the real business of interstate and international commerce, governmental business, etc...For years, if somebody complained about immigrants not learning English, they were a racist.....No argument, no explanation. Now, those complaints may look a little more valid. Of course, my bringing it up makes me a racist, xenophobe, nativist, redneck, etc, etc......But, offer me up an argument, maybe you can change my thinking....
