Slaughter, the 80's version of Nickelback.

That is all that is necessary. Bravo Subby.

I wish Nickelback would do what they did though: disappear.

dstanley 2008-04-24 11:24:12 AM
I can't figure out which band should be insulted.

madmann [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 11:51:36 AM
Step 1: Put shiatty song on first two albums THREE times.
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit?

/Slaughter's biggest hit was from a gravity bong while they were in the audience at Lollapalooza.

"I guess Portugal doesn't want to rock..."

Damn right, you bunch of unoriginal hacks (Slaughter sucked ass, too).

doublesecretprobation [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 12:11:16 PM
except they were a 90's band.

doublesecretprobation: except they were a 90's band.

Agree. And for the record, Nickelback still sucks more.

mekkab [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-04-24 12:26:41 PM
And they started off as the Vinnie Vincent Invasion... 'cept Chrysalis dropped Vinnie and Slaughter was born.

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 01:00:47 PM
I saw the Vinnie Vincent Invasion at Bogart's in Cincinnati when they were touring for their second album, "All Systems Go". I was doing metal radio at the time. I interviewed Vinnie after the show, and he talked about how great everyone got along, how everyone in the band was equal, and it was so much better than his "previous band" (which he wasn't allowed to mention by name), etc.

Three days later, MTV news reported that VVI had broken up, and that Dana Strum and Mark Slaughter were forming a new band.

//not a slaughter fan, just take insult to the calling of 90's music 80's crap.

TSE 2008-04-24 01:33:02 PM
Hey at least Slaughter had a sense of melody. Nickelback just sounds like whatshisname clearing his throat while reading a phone book.

amoricanCrowe 2008-04-24 01:34:22 PM
One of my guilty pleasures.

There. I said it.

/often referred to that song as the death rattle of 80's hair- farmer-band-metal-butt-rock

Courtney Cox-Zucker [TotalFark] 2008-04-24 01:39:07 PM
We used to pronounce Slaughter to rhyme with "laughter"

jasuus1977 2008-04-24 01:40:22 PM
I danced to this with my 8th grade "dinner dance" date many years ago.

//didnt get any.
//i liked it
//privately still sorta do

Dialectic 2008-04-24 01:49:44 PM
That's not 80s hair band. They were unlucky because about a year after that video, Nirvana came on the music scene like gangbusters, the other Seattle grunge rockers. I bet they probably fat and bald too, hahahaha!

paradroid 2008-04-24 01:51:39 PM
Yeah, Slaughter was pretty bad, but the Led Zeppelin-ripoff outro of "Fly To The Angels" gives it a lot more class than "This Is How You Remind Me."

PYROY 2008-04-24 01:52:55 PM
I wonder who would win in a fight, Slaughter or Trixter?

PYROY 2008-04-24 01:59:22 PM
Of course, if subby had called them a 90's band, everyone would be pointing out that they formed in the 80's.
Subby never had a chance.

Buster Hermano [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-04-24 02:01:16 PM
I think this is one of the reasons hair metal died at the hands of grunge.

Two bass drums hanging in the air? Really??

CZMisfitsFan 2008-04-24 02:03:24 PM
Hey, there WAS an 80s metal band called Slaughter. Major difference was that they were a kick ass crossover thrash band from Canada.

/The hair metal Slaughter is also a guilty pleasure of mine. Their 1997 album Revolution is actually catchy 60s inspired hard rock.

prjindigo 2008-04-24 02:05:41 PM
somehow I KNEW it was "fly high snorting hair gell"

Whatthefark 2008-04-24 02:15:47 PM
Alright, so they were a 90's band. They were influenced by the 80s though. Either way, I couldn't stand them.
I think that has more to do with my ex playing this song over and over than their music.

Buster Hermano [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-04-24 02:18:12 PM
PYROY: I wonder who would win in a fight, Slaughter or Trixter?

Neither, since there aren't enough misspelled words. Enuff Z'Nuff on the other hand, would take them both in a raging slapfight.

kivelo 2008-04-24 02:23:43 PM
I used to love this stuff...takes me back.

Hmmmm....I wonder if Robert Plant was an influence on his singing style?

/ya think?

sober 2008-04-24 02:35:53 PM
as crappy as slaughter is, this invokes happy memories of MTV back when they actually played videos all day and no reality shows.

idrow 2008-04-24 02:56:01 PM
In the 80's, I thought the drummer from Slaughter was the hottest thing I'd ever seen. I'm afraid to see what he looks like now. I don't want the memory ruined.

Used to think Billy Squier was hot, too. But then VH1 showed a recent pic of him and I was just saddened. I wish I had never seen it.

fredman 2008-04-24 02:56:45 PM
don't forget firehouse...

Oh, and I thought the video was going to be "Up All Night".

emocomputerjock 2008-04-24 03:02:50 PM
I have no clue why, but for a brief second my brain interpreted that as Slayer and I knew this thread would be carnage. Then it popped into my head correctly and I realized that Subby was indeed correct, and that all was well with the world.

Rh. 2008-04-24 03:03:02 PM
Do the kids not like music video's? I miss them myself, but do the kids prefer crappy reality shows to video's even if they were the same 12 mainstream pop songs all day?

10feetTall 2008-04-24 03:03:39 PM
Nickelback sucks because they are mid 30's old men writing (extremely similar) songs about teenage angst. Shameless to the point of deserving a public stoning.

Slaughter kept it real. Mark Slaughter might be a pretty boy but he didn't wear make up and florescent spandex like David Lee Roth did, and the music is not quite as good as Van Halen but it is decent rock, so cut 'em a break.

If I ever confused Slayer for Slaughter, I'd kick my own ass.

"Slaughter kept it real"

I bet you think Bon Jovi are cutting edge.

/Can't believe a thread on Fark has degenerated into irrelevant arguments over whether the band is 80's or 90's.
/lol

Guntram Shatterhand 2008-04-24 03:43:09 PM
B-b-b-but I like this song!

/I was probably in grade school when it came out, however.

Up all night (new window)

That's their biggest hit in my mind... probably because of all the spraying water and writhing women.

Davescookies 2008-04-24 04:08:33 PM
I would much rather listen to Slaughter perform every song they ever wrote in addition to the entire Gilbert and Sullivan while having my toenails slowly ripped out with an olive fork then hear one syllable out of Chad Kroeger's mouth.

One of the all-time worst "professional" live appearance I have ever witnessed was Slaughter opening for Damn Yankees in 1992 or 1993. Beyond horrible. Another all-time worst was Skid Row when they opened for GnR in '91. I liked VVI back in the halcyon days of hair metal. Robert Fleischman was a much better singer for Vinnie than Mark Slaughter ever was. MS just had the pretty looks to ensnare the female under 25 demographic. Horrible singer though. Like a cat caught in a bear trap.

DrakeLabatt 2008-04-24 04:20:45 PM
By 1990/1991, the market was oversaturated with this type of act, as every record label had jumped on the bandwagon by then and ended up churning out crap that unfortunately sold a pile of albums.

Agreed. Nice visual... oh, sorry, I was envisioning MS in a bear trap.

I take it you've never seen Poison or Warrant?

/agree on Skid Row....saw them open for Aerosmith in '89.
//Steven Segal's band opening for Sammy Hagar a couple years ago is singly the worst opening act EVAR!

Oh no you don't...even then we were biatching about how we remembered "when MTV used to show videos." Maybe it's gotten worse since then, but I definitely remember a lot of stupid non-music related crap on MTV when I was in high school.

good god, this thread made me think of that video, too... hooray for predicatable MTV. The last time I heard this song on the radio, the next song was (no shiat) "one from a new band called Nirvana". Never heard Blue Murder on the radio again.

You never saw L.a. Guns opening for Def Leppard I'm betting.I could not here the lead singer over the guitars.Way worse than this video.

/Yes I liked Def Leppard and so did the hot red head who took me for a birthday present.
//Still would have preferred to get in her pants but I was an idiot about girls back then and apparently still am.

I'd say Slaughter is more like the 80s version of that band that did that "Click Click Boom" song. Nickelback is really huge. Slaughter had one or two hits during one pathetic summer.
