Completely agree! The genius of this man knows no bounds. The first Bungle album alone is worthy of the HERO tag.

Douche.

Nativity in Black (pops). Faith No More's live version of War Pigs was a farkin' disgrace on what was mostly a stellar album. Their cover would have been fine if Mike didn't break down into a blabbering retard. And its a shame, because I really like Mike Patton.

a geeky enclave of the alternative underworld, marked by a distaste for run of the mill, rock-n-roll schmuckery

Because, run of the mill, hipster schmuckery is so much better.

Faith No More were awesome, though. Too bad he bailed on that so he could go make garbage for shoegazer kids to fap to.

Eventually, he's going to need money. And then Faith No More will go on a reunion tour. And there will be much rejoicing.

I can't think of anything shoegaze Patton has done. Though I've noticed shoegaze has been transposed into some kind of catch-all term...

blah blah blah shoegazer blah

shoegazer? really?

i'm guessing you haven't heard anything patton's done outside fnm and/or that you have no idea what 'shoegaze' actually means. either way, have some fail. you've earned it.

Gunny Highway 2008-04-23 05:36:19 PM
Ok i looked it up. It is just another lame sub genre of rock. We need to start classifying rock and roll as rock and roll again and maybe it will get better. The scene is too fractured there needs to be a movement back towards the center.

I'm not so sure that there was ever a "center" in the first place and in any case, you're assuming that the diversification of rock is a bad thing. I'd have to disagree (though I admit I have no idea what shoegaze is).

/oh and straight "rock and roll" is making a comeback anyway. See: bands like Wolfmother, etc.

Yea i have listened to them. They are alright. I agree there isnt any center to rock and roll but it has become too fractured. Genres split into sub genres which again split and usually the music gets worse and worse as you work your way down the tree. There is plenty of new music out there that i love so i dont really have a problem i would just like to see solid rock make its way back into the mainstream.

Never listened to My Bloody Valentine but i just checked them out on Youtube. Not bad i guess. The singers are real different (not just the gender) so it is tough to compare. Kinda drab for me but i guess that is "Shoegaze"'s thing.

The first time i read it i saw it as "Shoe-ga-Zee"

I threw some coins in the clothes washer next to an out of tune guitar played in minor chords only and spoke 18th century Chinese quotations backwards through a bullhorn while dressed like a pirate.

Hey, that makes me farkin brillant too. Yay.

the vocals in shoegaze aren't really meant to be a focal point. Just another instrument in the mix. though even then, some would argue MBV isn't shoegaze, just a precursor to the genre. Whatever.

LewDux: Mike Patton + Fennesz

though not really shoegaze, what little I know of Fennesz is that he definitely bought a few MBV records. So I guess the above shoegaze comments weren't completely without merit.

Hey guys, i have a serious mr bungle trivia question of a live song I used to have from Napster, it live, its 10 minutes long and Mike does a long narrative thru-out, rambles about "the wizard" at one point and at another the band breaks into wizard of oz "lollipop kid" song. It's incredibly good and as far as i know was never released???

One of the favorite artists, if only for versatilities sake.

/Courtney Love was once the lead singer of Faith No More.

I used to play Angel Dust LOUD on my stereo, and play along with my guitar in my room as a teenager. The best part of the whole album is waiting for the precise moment during the screeching monkeys to hit that first chord of Caffeine.

"Return to my own vomit like a dog" ... lyrics don't get any better than that right there.

Mr Bungle "California" is one of my favorite albums of all time. I like it even more than Disco Volante.

This man is pure Genius.

The Tomahawk Live from a sydney Aurtralia talk show clips are the best.

Search Youtube for "tomahawk flashback" and "tomahawk god hates a coward". They are both friggin brilliant.
