at best, the security guard only knew the name 'Slash' from Guns N Roses, and he told the the girls Slash was there, and really both sightings were of Axl.

I don't think this is a coincidence any more than the breakup of Velvet just in time for the STP tour.. you think these tours happen overnight.. they're planned well in advance. I'm making the prediction right now that the GnR reunion will happen with the release of Chinese Democracy. The only thing you can count on is that the media is full of shiat and speculation and that no-one really knows what is going on between Axl and the rest of GnR. You assume their enemies because what you see in the papers... perhaps they're all good friends and simply want to mix things up a bit and swap around in bands?

Let's throw rumors aside and look at the status of things:

* Rose has just lost a lead guitarist and major contributor (Robin Finck has rejoined Nine Inch Nails).
* His album, literally fourteen years in the making and about 40% leaked, has become a worldwide punchline and stands no chance of living up to expectations.
* Velvet Revolver has finally (thang gawd) ditched Scott Weiland and is in need of a singer.
* Both factions are on good terms with Izzy Stradlin, who's solo career never went anywhere (despite his talent).
* Steven Adler isn't even needed as long as Matt Sorum is around, though he prays every day for a reunion.
* All still thrive only by playing GNR hits onstage for nostalgic fans (guilty as charged).

It really makes sense for them to pull off a reunion tour, and for Rose to abandon Chinese Democracy without release. After witnessing nostalgia concert juggernauts like the Stones and Zeppelin, why not?

For Rose especially, the window of opportunity is closing - his voice is already propped up by backstage oxygen therapy and audio booth processing. He won't last nearly as long as someone like Jagger, simply because of the demands of those screechy GNR songs. Been to an Aerosmith concert lately? Yeeshiatick..tock..tick..tock...
