Before the anti-rap fans get in here.. before the racists and before the haters.
please understand one thing..
the artists mentioned above usually rap about positive stuff, being good, doing well in your life, overcoming struggles, not being materialistic, contributing to society.. or on the fun tip, they rap about being goofy, finding the right person to love, failed relationships, etc..

These artists listed above, for the large part, are not the ghetto-thug rappers you may be more familiar with hearing about. Even Nas, who has had his share of wild rhymes with some cruel undertones can, and often is, positive and very smart about what he's saying.

So in closing, save your breath and don't make a fool of yourself by lumping all rappers together.. even though I know you still will.

she keeps on passing me by.........

That's a pretty impressive line up.

Too bad they don't come within 800 miles of Atlanta on the tour.

I don't think anyone will diss Rakim. I hope.

WTF is up with two Canada shows, and none in the south? (Miami doesn't count)

Either the Chicago or Toronto date looks good to this Michigander.

I think or at least hope that if there's anyone foolish enough to go all anti-rap rant on a lineup like that, the majority of posters will know that person to be an uneducated fool.

Or maybe at least they'll hit youtube or something and listen to some of their stuff before they comment.

Nah.
You're probably right.

Rap?! More like C-RAP! HA HA... ha?

/Hey guys, where are you going?!
//Does anyone know what Jarobi *did* as part of TCQ? No one seems to know...

The article says Raekwon but smitty said Rakim. Subby, don't tease me with a Rakim sighting, he's as old school as it gets.

FraggleStickCar 2008-04-23 10:39:28 AM
The lineup is like a list of my favorite hip hop artists/groups of all-time. And, sweet Jesus, they're coming to Chicago. Fark yes, farking fark yes. That is all.

duncangonuts 2008-04-23 10:43:46 AM
Philly is the closest they're going to get to me? Gah! At least play DC, I beg of you.

Though they do play in NY the day after my birthday and I've got friends in that city... hmm.

Hot Carl To Go 2008-04-23 10:48:06 AM
Here is a link with more info, says Rakim, Mos Def and more will be in on it... Rolling Stone^

Crap. I was hoping Tribe would reunite and do Bonnaroo before they did the Bells... doesn't look like that will happen.

I'm disappointed, but at least I can make the Bells in Philly on 8/3!!

Johnny Stat Box [TotalFark] 2008-04-23 11:25:06 AM
Bells had a sick lineup last year and I spent 6 months pissed at myself for not going. Not so this year. I'm making the effort. I'm checking out the Glow in the Dark tour in Hartford this May (moreso for Lupe than any artist on the bill, even Kanye) and RtB in either Boston or NY in late July. Gonna be a good summer.

How great is this?

Anyone think Eric B will leave his fantastic pad to lay down some beats?

Holy shiat, seriously? I saw Tribe at the Tabernacle on their 2K Sports tour. I almost cried.

mekkab: //Does anyone know what Jarobi *did* as part of TCQ? No one seems to know...

He actual did drop some rhymes on People's Instinctive Travels, but left after that. Oddly enough, he did show up at the 2K Sports tour show. My friend and I saw him, turned to each other, and mouthed, "What the fark?"

obeymatt 2008-04-23 11:52:57 AM
Is it the whole Pharcyde getting back together? Or a couple guys singing smooth jazz tunes?

Bullitt 2008-04-23 11:57:55 AM
Never been a biatch, so I don't act biatchy
Smooth on the vinyl like Lionel Richie

It is the original Pharcyde: Fatlip, Imani, Slimkid, and Booty Brown

Phife Dawg is one the great underrated rappers! I hate concerts but I'm going to this.
'Cause all I'm ever guilty of is going on tour
Doing shows galore, and bringin' it raw

TManPsycho 2008-04-23 12:47:47 PM
You're not in the Wu-Tang Clan! You're not even in A Tribe Called Quest, asshole. You're 18 years old, you don't know shiat about shiat, and PULL UP YOUR PANTS!!!

De La Soul.

3 feet high and rising.

Classic album.

Still worth a listen after all these years.

Denis Leary obscure? Certainly not.

mkultra74 2008-04-23 01:16:33 PM
I wish they had more stops, but I'm going to have to make the trek to philly for that date. I haven't been to a show like that in years .
Hey, what ever happened to the Fugees droppin a new album? Did that just fall through or what? Now, if they could add the Fugees to that list as well...

I think they could've snuck in some Del tha' Funkee Homosapien, and a little Kool Keith wouldn't have been bad.

...bust a nut inside your eye to show you where I come from.

As a white kid, I'd go to this show with this line-up!

/if I wouldn't get shot, that is.

deevo 2008-04-23 08:19:13 PM
otravez: looks like a great line up.

Yes, the 07 in the URL and the 2007 dates should tell you that it was a great lineup.

Randall's Island was probably 80-90% white last year. Seriously, black hip-hop fans, spending $120 on music? Outside, in the sun? Live music? "General admission"?

Maybe I'll go again this year, maybe. I mean Ghostface with live instrumental backing and Raekwon, Brother Ali, and Rakim were like $30 in a much more intimate venue a few months ago.
