Happy Birthday Robert.

Believe it or not, yesterday I was doing some cleaning in the attic and I came across a box of random stuff. Sorting through it, I found a letter from an old girlfriend. Not really a big deal, but she signed it "5-4 forever baby". I was like wtf does that mean? Then it hit me. I had a 5-cd changer back then and in the 5th slot was "Disintegration" and the fourth track was Lovesong. She never ceased to tell me that that was "our" song and I was not allowed to remove it for fear of the failing of our eternal love.

Well you can figure out the rest. Just thought it was weird that I found that letter yesterday.

Who?

AiryAnne 2008-04-22 11:35:43 PM
33 years on this earth and I only recently "discovered" the Cure. Obviously I had heard of them, but never listened to them.

It's good.

He wasn't the only one. More importantly, Jimmy Osterberg turned 61 yesterday, but recognition of this was disallowed.

As many haters as there are towards the Cure and Robert Smith he has had a big influence on many bands and at the time was totally different than anything being done. Their early stuff was pure modern psychedelia. I dont think we'll see a band with the kind relevance the Cure had for the many years they were putting out music for a very long time. We're lucky to have a band put out 5 albums much less 13 solid albums.

We should make attention.

I loved the Cure. Robert Smith is a very bad man, slinging Fenders like they're pistols. I saw them, on their Disintegration tour, the Sugarcubes opened the show.

I only like their music up until about 1992. I especially loathe "Mixed Up," "Bloodflowers." I HATE "The Cure." Double kick drum belongs in METAL, not The Cure, Bob.

Are they on tour now? and what became of the latest studio album??? I'm relying on you Farkers! Been listening to them for 20+years now going back to the Pornography (album, not mags) and have 'matured' along the way with KCrim, NIN, the Smiths, and Tool and such, but never have been able to see the Cure....Anyone know anything?? (despised the whole goth label and scene but really dig Smith's musicianship)

so much random sh*t to say...
1. my band covers 'sinking'
2. disintegration really IS the best album EVAR. no, REALLY.
3. cure self-titled has its good songs and its songs that are meh.
4. looking forward to double-disc coming out this year
5. find these very rare cure gems: "spilt milk", "to the sky", "pirate ships".
6. i've easily spent $500 on cure CD singles over the years.
7. although wild mood swings was disappointing, be sure to listen to the b-sides. they are gold. especially 'it used to be me', 'adonais' and DEFINITELY 'a pink dream' (she still sucks my breath away)
8. buy the trilogy dvd. my appreciation for 'pornography' tripled.
9. happy bday mr smith
10. eff eye are ee eye enn sea ay eye are oh!
i'll stop here.

Cool song off imaginary boys....awesome album , people should know more about the first cure album

To add to what SADCHILD said above, I really love the 2 disk re issue of all the old albums...

I personally get off the CURE bus rigght before "kiss me, kiss me" ...I saw them back in 88-89 and they played "kiss me" in its entirety....zzzzzzzzz they weren't bad musically but zero stage presence

/"standing on a beach" ftw!!!
//i know its a best of... Then ill chose "head on the door"

The same thing happened to me about 10 years ago, up until that point I was like the other squares who put it down based on their image.

Absolutely great songwriting.

Oh, and Galore is probably the best greatest hits album ever.

Thank you for this, submitter--I saw this tour at William and Mary Hall back in '92. Lovely little piece of nostalgia, great album.

Also, "100 Years," "Bloodflowers," "Plainsong," and "All Cats are Grey."

samperkinsdog 2008-04-23 01:28:50 PM
to my ears, everything past (and including) "disintegration" was forced and disingenuous. "seventeen seconds", "pornography" and "faith" are great albums.

but that was before ol' bob realized playing cutesy brought greater attention. it all started with "the lovecats". bluh. from there on out, songs like "the caterpiller", "close to me", and "lullaby" were torture... sickly sweet teenage fey toothless indulgence.

my old band covered "how beautiful you are". for the life of me, i don't understand how "disintegration" has more love among cure fans then "kiss me kiss me kiss me".

sadchild 2008-04-23 01:30:26 PM
HappyHarryHardOn: I really love the 2 disk re issue of all the old albums.

can't wait for disintegration!

Azz: I think the best unknown cure tune is 'this twilight garden'

yes, that's definitely one of the best b-sides, along with 'a pink dream', '2 late', 'the exploding boy', 'the big hand', 'halo', 'harold and joe', 'play' and 'snow in summer'.

Azz 2008-04-23 01:41:20 PM
sadchild: 'snow in summer'.

I was just listening to that one this morning!

It's amazing how many gems you can discover just by pushing play and not skipping.

Disintegration has got to be one of my all time favorite cd's from the Cure... the whole thing is good!

frostus: My favorite Cure tune (pops)

indeed. my co workers are going to hate The Cure by the time we go home tomorrow...

I came here to say "Pornography" is the best Cure album.

Next is Carnage Visors.

That is all.
