To be fair, she is just as old as Him.

she's still working? i thought she married a director and spends her days perfecting her english accent

Her gant maybe but not her career.

It's one thing to give credit for staying power. The Beatles were only in the world spotlight for seven years. But compare any of those seven to any of Madonna's twenty-five.

I know there are Beatle-haters (it's Fark; nothing is universally good), but I'm sure even they can admit this is just celebworship of disguised as a legitimate article. Unlikely Tag? Haven't we graduated to a Fail Tag by this point?

/cue the Fail Tag prototypes

Well, she was his mother after all. She was probably bigger than him until he was at least 12.

Ummm, the Beatles were the biggest band in the modern era of music, how the hell can this ho bag claim to be bigger than them?

theurge14 2008-04-22 01:06:00 AM
I think even Madonna will admit it took her 25 years to do what the Beatles did in less than 10. And that's not knocking Madonna.

BTW I wouldn't want to be a box of Bon Bons anywhere near Mariah Carey after she releases a new album only to watch Madonna release just a single and totally steal the spotlight.

When the argument is 'cultural icon' I could give two farks where they rate Madonna. With the quality of pop music, should you really be celebrated for maintaining achievement in a crappy genre?

I've also got to wonder why gays have such terrible taste in music. What's with that? I was out with a gay friend one night, and after the third bar playing 'ung-chit-ung-chit-ung-chit' and show tunes, I begged him to take me to a bar that played the Eagles. As my punishment, he took me to a leather bar.

/has one gay friend with great taste in music
//he was 25 before he came out - I think it took him that long to accept that he'd have to listen to crappy music in bars for the rest of his life.
///whole point is I blame the gays for Madonna's continued popularity

well, I think I would like to bring to this thread that having number #1's does not equate being influential

But is she bigger that wrestling, bigger than the beatles AND bigger than breast implants? Bigger than guns, bigger than cigarettes?

Album sales:
The Beatles (White Album): 19 million
The Beatles: 1967-1970 16 million
The Beatles: 1962-1966 15 million
Abbey Road: 12 million
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: 11 million

Madonna's best two albums, Like a Virgin and The Immaculate Collection each barely cracked 10 million.

Oh, and would you rather watch "A Hard Day's Night" or "Shanghi Surprise"?

That is all.

If you didn't, I would have. Eminem doesn't have shiat on that guy.

Cultural impact? In the 80S? More proof the 80s sucked.

Think Prince, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, and Madonna.

You know. Shiate.

Prince is shiat according to you? Of all the pop musicians you could have chosen you picked Prince huh? Are you talking about music(ality) or image?

All Madonna has done is jerk off the media for 25 years.

She's smart, but her music is mostly crap. A couple of the mid 80's singles were ok pop tunes.

Anyone that compares her to The Beatles should be beaten to a pulp.

It's obviously not just gays that have bad taste.

They are the only people that have cared about Madonna since the 80's were over.

It is their fault, and easily led media geeks also.

The Beatles have sold an estimated 500 million+ albums and singles. Between 5 of those albums 73 million copies were sold. They've recorded 304 different songs and have written most of them. All have had successful solo careers after the break-up (except Ringo). Every one of them has become a god among music (except Ringo). They did everything from Pop, to Rock, to Psychadelia, to Metal (only once). They have held all 5 positions of the charts simaltaneously. They hold the record for most Diamond certified albums (5).

In case you haven't guessed by now, I like the Beatles.

Most overrated band, EVER.

Ringo was the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine. And His All-Starr Band album pretty successful.

He should be in a show called Everybody Loves Ringo. Because seriously, who doesn't love Ringo, or at least like the guy?
